I removed the post, and it is not personal. There are subject matters which have the potential to become board flames which in the end serve no purpose or benefit our community in any way. Your post unfortunately fell under those guidelines. I would be mindful of your accusations, I respect everyone and their views. Regards; Erik Thompson

Looks to me like chkdsk has been run on that drive hence the .chk files. Windows stores these files on the root of the drive so if you're trying to view / find them make sure you have the ability to view hidden system files if you're using the explorer GUI, otherwise they are visible at the command shell. Here's the blurb from Microsoft and a link that you can use to read up on the chkdsk application. • Fixing disk errors Chkdsk corrects disk errors only if you specify the /f command-line option. Chkdsk must be able to lock the drive to correct errors. Because repairs usually change a disk's file allocation table and sometimes cause a loss of data, chkdsk sends a confirmation message similar to the following: 10 lost allocation units found in 3 chains. Convert lost chains to files? If you press Y, Windows saves each lost chain in the root directory as a file with a name in the format Filennnn.chk. When chkdsk finishes, you can check these files to see if they contain any data you need. If you press N, Windows fixes the disk, but it does not save the contents of the lost allocation units. Can't log-in with Netscape 7.2 anymore
Erik replied to WHB's topic in Site Support / Bug Reports / Suggestions
Alright ... after many concerns and issues with browsers and logging into the site ... I decided (*insertswearwordshere*) to download (*against my better judgement and moral standards*) and install (*GASP*) AOL Explorer and MSN Explorer browsers. The butterfly one says "good-evening" (*insert AWWWW how cutes here*) and it allows me to log out and log in, post on the boards, (*using it to post this reply*) etc. See Picture. The ohhh so blue and colorful one installed a bunch of links all over my computer for their products etc. (*insert the GOD DON'T YOU HATE THAT!!!! swear word swear word here*) and to my surprise it also allowed me to log in and log out then back in, view the boards, post etc. See Picture. I dunno but I'm going to call this bug report closed. What do you guys think? (*goes to remove all this nifty stuff he just installed*) Let me know. Erik Oh yeah I forgot to mention ... I didn't delete any cookies or do anything to my computer other than download and install the browsers. -
Can't log-in with Netscape 7.2 anymore
Erik replied to WHB's topic in Site Support / Bug Reports / Suggestions
I downloaded and installed a new version of Netscape on a computer that didn't have it. Worked fine. I used my local copy of Netscape on my "whip". Worked fine. I made some changes to the way we handle AOL, MSN, and Netscape browser spider search bots to see if the log size we were sending was too big for the browsers. Re-checked my login and posting ability on Netscape. Works. So those of you who have access to MSN and AOL Explorer Browsers can you check if you can log in now? Thanks for the help as I refuse to signup with AOL and MSN just to test their browsers ... lol Thanks for the report. Erik -
Sounds like you'll be all fixed up after the updates. Good luck.

How do I delete files that I've uploaded?
Erik replied to allenjb42's topic in Site Support / Bug Reports / Suggestions
You should have all the options you spoke of available to you when you edit the file. You can change the name, description, file, and screenshot so that should work for you. Let us know if you need further assistance. Regards; -

New Patches don't
Erik replied to CAPFlyer's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
CAP; Sounds like you're frustrated and I guess I would be too, however going off on those that are trying to help you probably isn't the best option if you really want some help. My two cents for what they are worth. Anyway, I was reading this: http://www.thirdwire.com/downloads_wov.htm I'm sure you have that link to the WOV updates and patches, but in reading the text for each of the files it's apparent to me that the update must be applied first then the patch. Remove and re-install a new installation of WOV (you said you had a secondary drive you were installing to which will leave your working or old copy alone, that's great). Once the new installation is done update to the latest service pack: Service Pack v05.15.06. Then as mentioned try the game to see if the update is viable for you or not. Then I'd patch to the latest patch: Patch v07.10.06 to see if that's working for you. Once we narrow down the issue a bit we'll probably have more solutions for you. Let us know. -

Okay ... well thanks for trying ... I've filed the bugz0r report and we'll wait to see if Invision can figure it out. AOL and MSN Explorer users the work-around is use a different browser to view the site. Erik

I made some changes today ... can those of you with AOL and MSN try the site login now with your AOL Explorer or MSN Explorer browsers and report back if it works now? Thanks; Erik
-
NO ... but I do have a machine that is like my guinea pig, sits over in the corner and I run all kinds of malicious content on it in hopes one day it will die, but it won't.

Lets see I thought I owned every browser compliant and non-compliant known to mankind ... are you saying MSN has their own browser? Is it that thing with the butterfly? If so then it's a security setting in your browser. To verify that open forum.combatace.com and see if you can log in. If you can then it's the redirect in the portal that's the issue and security is set too high or you can allow our site as trusted. If it doesn't work and you can't log in at forum.combatace.com then let me know and I'll download the browser and see what's going on. That's what I get for thinking I tested "every" browser I knew about. :( Thanks for the intel! Erik

Not sure I understand the question ... can you be more specific or list any errors you might receive, thanks.

Lets not spread rumors or even start the ugly idea. It's the internet and computers / software fail, it's that simple. I'm sure they'll be up at their earliest convenience. Take care; Erik

With the list of necessary changes and fixes coming to the end we're proud to announce our site up and 100% operational again. In the upcoming days we'll continue making changes to improve the look and feel for our members and friends. If you haven't noticed some of the new toys we've put into place for you check out the new and improved download section. Complete with highlight thumbnails and extensive search, we're confident you're going to give it rave reviews. To compliment the downloads section a new gallery has been enabled which we are quite sure is going to get a lot of use. I'm sure you noticed our front page and boards are now entirely integrated and we've done away with the confusing multiple log in areas. Be sure to let us know what you think or if you find something we missed. Thank you all for your patience and understanding during our transitional phase. The CombatACE Team

heh - hacked is probably the wrong word, probably more correct is that an exploit that allowed someone to use our domain in ways it was never intended caused us to have to put in some extra hours. The exploit allowed injections to our shell allowing the upload of unwanted content to our site. This content was then used to phish for banking information and spam flood the internet. All of our subscribers content and details were not at risk at any time, but the seriousness of the phishing content forced our hosting provider to revoke our agreements in breech leaving us to find another provider, move the content, fix the exploit, and while we were at it upgrade our applications. Not an easy task when you're un-prepared for the move, but we've managed the job well. Our downtime last week was a direct result just how seriously we take what we do here. From all of us at CombatACE; Enjoy your new digs. Erik

Yup ... and actually the old file announcements will never work again as we've upgraded to a more powerful download library system capable of handling our needs now and in the future. Sometimes progress is painful ... trust me I have first hand experience. LOL
