reorganizing the SF2 Download section?
Erik replied to Soulfreak's topic in Site Support / Bug Reports / Suggestions
Cranky is how most people get after using our FUBAR search feature, I understand. No offense taken. -
We are officially upgraded. Downtime minimal, problems minimal. All is good. Let me know if you spot anything. E

reorganizing the SF2 Download section?
Erik replied to Soulfreak's topic in Site Support / Bug Reports / Suggestions
Relax, I'm not trying to shuffle anything under the rug or claim something is fixed when it isn't. I'm speaking from what I know and what should be as opposed to what results are being returned. I AGREE there is a problem and I will continue to work on it. If you're at all curious why I made the statement I did yesterday you can research http://sphinxsearch.com and see how operators are supposed to be handled. Otherwise this is a work in progress until it gets fixed. Crap on a cracker. -

reorganizing the SF2 Download section?
Erik replied to Soulfreak's topic in Site Support / Bug Reports / Suggestions
I hear you guys and I am willing to do whatever it takes to put the SF2 stuff into some type of organizational state but I can't do it alone. So I would need someone like Dave to do all the moving etc. I can create the structure if I have one to create and I can make sure everything is working prior to moving anything but that would be my limit right now. I have some immediate things to handle concerning the boards which is to get them upgraded and return our functionality to those that use Microsoft products, (Internet Explorer 10, Hotmail, etc) After that I would be down for putting some time into the download section organizational issues. As for the search engine, it's working as designed. For most it's knowing how to use it that makes the thing useless. This is especially true when using a dash, like appear in our model numbers (F-111, P-51) etc. Let's take a common example like I want to find all the variations of the F-35 so someone would type F-35 into the search box, right? I would it's intuitive, it's the model number. To the search engine what you just asked it was find everything that has an "F" in title/content but don't find things that have a "35" in it. (F exclude "minus sign/dash" 35) So if you want to find F-35s on our search engine you have to type in F+35 or (F+35) or F35 but not F-35. It's ass backwards but the minus sign and plus sign have a distinct function, even on Google. Here it's held to be more exact because we have less content and less fuzzy logic running the search engine. I hope that helps. Erik -
The majority of this upgrade is to support Microsoft and their crap way of doing things which is conform or get bent. Trust me I'd rather have leaches in my shorts than have to upgrade all the customized portions of this site.

The fix is in beta right now should be able to release it soon. Sorry about the hassle, but if Microsoft can break it they do. Use a different browser like Chrome or Firefox until then. -

Something in your browser is weird. Solutions include: 1) shutdown and reboot. 2) close browser flush cache and reopen browser. 3) change to a different browser see if it fixes the problem. <can't duplicate problem> -
Download speed problem
Erik replied to morteza1374's topic in Site Support / Bug Reports / Suggestions
Really no response? All that hard work of replying and drawing nifty images and nothing. I'm bummed. Well hope you got it solved. E -
It is not necessary to remove the file completely. You can "edit" the file then remove the file and replace your uploaded file with a new one, very similar to the way it was uploaded the first time. I believe you also have the option of removing your old file or leaving a copy of it on the server. We can also hide the file until you're ready to release it. However since you seem very concerned about it I'll remove it. Thanks.

Download speed problem

It's impossible to diagnose anything with the information that is supplied here. At the very minimum you should post a traceroute of the connection. START > RUN > Type CMD press [enter] > In black command line box type: tracert combatace.com press [enter] Output will look like this: C:\Users\Erik\>tracert combatace.com Tracing route to combatace.com [216.104.36.210] over a maximum of 30 hops: 1 2 ms 1 ms 1 ms E1000 [192.168.1.1] 2 9 ms 9 ms 9 ms 96.120.59.133 3 11 ms 11 ms 9 ms te-7-3-ur01.co.comcast.net [69.139.177.161] 4 9 ms 9 ms 9 ms te-8-1-ar01.co.comcast.net [68.87.172.1] 5 21 ms 25 ms 15 ms te-0-1-0-5-cr01.santateresa.tx.ibone.comcast.net [68.86.92.253] 6 31 ms 35 ms 36 ms he-0-12-0-0-cr01.denverqwest.co.ibone.comcast.net [68.86.89.53] 7 35 ms 30 ms 31 ms he-3-11-0-0-cr01.denver.co.ibone.comcast.net [68.86.89.29] 8 56 ms 58 ms 59 ms he-5-15-0-0-cr01.350ecermak.il.ibone.comcast.net [68.86.85.113] 9 60 ms 52 ms 60 ms be-17-pe03.350ecermak.il.ibone.comcast.net [68.86.82.222] 10 58 ms 61 ms 56 ms as4436.350ecermak.il.ibone.comcast.net [173.167.57.126] 11 61 ms 51 ms 50 ms as32475.xe-3-0-2-1101.ar1.ord1.us.nlayer.net [69.31.111.94] 12 52 ms 55 ms 51 ms dr6506b.ord02.singlehop.net [99.198.126.246] 13 57 ms 51 ms 51 ms trinity.combatace.com [216.104.36.210] Trace complete. upload progress indicator
Erik replied to ravenclaw_007's topic in Site Support / Bug Reports / Suggestions
If you are using the basic uploader you will or should depending on browser get an upload indicator lower left of the screen. If you are using the advanced uploader it will appear in-line in the upload section. Use the link above to toggle between the two uploaders. -
Blogs not working

Ahhh the re-write rule wasn't working so all the dynamic links were no good. I've made some changes and resolved it. Thanks for the heads up. Erik -
Yes, I would check your settings. There is no reason you can't be logged in on both machines, separately or at the same time.

Upload limit in PM
Erik replied to daddyairplanes's topic in Site Support / Bug Reports / Suggestions
It's not how much you have stored in your attachment space. It's how much you can attach per post which is a hard setting you have no control over. Subscription members have no limit, Elite members like yourself have a 5MB file limit per post. So if you fell off of a subscription plan this would account for why it has changed. It is part of the perks of a subscription membership. The basis of all this has to do with how we manage disk space. It is nothing personal it's a factor of scaling. For example if all member types used their maximum amount of storage it equals some insane number 4.9TB. Based on averages per account type if all members used their average amount of allotted storage it equals less than our total disk space so we don't end up in a bad situation, aka disk limit reached. (Very very bad in conditions where MYSQL needs to write but can't so it causes the DB to become corrupt and fail possibly a fatal error) You have to plan for those types of conditions to do otherwise could cause bigger issues that would have you guys asking, "is this guy an idiot?" I'm open to suggestions but at the same time I have to consider the entire use not just the single use which granted is not a big deal. Is the file private or what's the usage? Maybe there's something else I can figure out for you. For example Modders have a private warehouse they can put files in the download section, that could be used to transfer large files, it's semi-private and you could remove the file after it's been moved. The download section as an example uses it's own disk space, that's why the limits are different there in case you were curious. Yes, it's a complicated mouse trap we've built but I'm proud of it cause it works pretty damn good. :) Let me know. -
Donated Money and Lost My Veteran Status

I read this and then forgot to do it. I suck at concatenating, Dave usually does it. All fixed now. -
Too many unknowns to be absolutely certain of anything. We'd need a sample of the meteor which could give us density and composition. Then from there we can start making educated guesses based on known entry objects. It's the whole pound of feathers pound of lead scenario.

You guys are just n00bs when it comes to data storage. Sort of humbling isn't it?
-
You're absolutely right how can anyone argue with that logic. I've contacted A&E TV on your behalf for an upcoming episode of "Hoarders - Buried Alive". Help is on the way.

Ehhhhh ... you get what you pay for when it comes to blank disc media. They make preservation quality media just for this purpose and it's worked quite well for me. The other clean option is to store the data in solid state form as flash drives are getting big enough and affordable enough now to accomplish this. You can back it up to a hdd like it is now and pull the drive and store it in a non static bag with some silicon for moisture. As long as the disc isn't spooling up all the time it should last forever. Is there a 100% foolproof and fail safe way to store no, but it's almost condom percentages.
