Help for a new modder
Erik replied to Shoot2maim's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - Mods/Skinning Discussion
Knowledge Base Hi and welcome! You'll be glad to know that you're not the first one to ask these questions. Luckily the great group of guys here have put together a wealth of information covering a wide range of topics and specifically what you're looking for. Take a read through the Begging Modder Section of the KB (Link Above). -
There's a patch for the editor not preserving line breaks as described. So this will be fixed in the next board update (probably a week or so). E
-
Internet Explorer only plays by their rules they really don't care about standards compliance just patching their code base from exploits because they in their infinite wisdom decided to make the graphics engine part of the kernel. [/rant-off] I'll take another look. E

What browser are you using? I can't replicate this in FireFox. Erik
-
Thanks for the clarification it wasn't was I was thinking so glad I asked. As for the other boards I've got my hands full here, thanks though.
-
So what exactly are you saying? I'm fairly adept at reading between the lines and I'm not sure I like the innuendos here. Some insight would be helpful. Thanks.

I've released the skin set for use with the OFF Forum. You may also select this OFF Skin to use as your primary skin on the rest of the site by using the skin selector tool located in the lower left corner of all pages. This will allow you to view the entire CombatACE site in the OFF branded color scheme. The remainder of the skin odds and ends like colors in the editor, etc I'll see if I can get Fates to handles so I can move on to more pressing things.
-
The OFF Skin for this forum will return. Otherwise spending countless hours on the OFF skin would be pointless wouldn't it? But hey I'm cool with answering posts instead of working on it.
-
All thank-less work. So far I've got about 23+ hours into the OFF Skin for just this forum and my patience is . Tell me again what sucks? I forgot. The skin was removed because variables in the old skin settings were causing issues. This is true of all the skins with the exception of the main skin you see now which I previously converted. Have you noticed since the old skins have been removed the site is stable and online again? Just tell me which option you prefer and I'll be happy to offer you my solution, which just happens to be the only one.

Mike is close. It's in the same menu as he mentioned just not at the bottom it's nearer the middle. -

It's not you. It's something that a fix is coming for. Thanks for the report, nice to have the feedback. -
Subscriptions Link above. Since this is a rewrite of the code base running the downloads I'm at the mercy of the forum software developer. They are aware of the problem and a fix may come as soon as the next release but there are no guarantees. The other obvious solution is to turn your download manager off, uninstall it, or change to a browser like Firefox which doesn't have a download manager installed in the stock distribution. Again the problem isn't the downloads or how the files are counted but how the files are requested in ranges by browser download managers / accelerators. Sorry for the hassle, again, but we're on it. Your input is valuable, thanks for reporting this issue. Erik
-
Yes, that's exactly what I'm seeing in the logs. 2 counts sometimes 4 counts for the same file caused by the download manager.
-
Yup. Just to double check I ran a report and it shows 2 sometimes 4 downloads of the same file which is how the download managers are showing up in the logs. I'm pretty certain if you look at your download history here: My Downloads you'll see the same thing. Erik

I just finished upgrading the site software and one of the issues still being resolved is the download manager. Some of the issues being worked on include the use of download managers (accelerators). This applies to a lot of members who use Internet Explorer and have a download manager installed and probably don't even know it since it's a common add-on to IE. Specifically what happens is the browser opens multiple download requests for the same file and each request is logged as a downloaded file. All techie talk aside it's something I'm aware of and it's being worked on. It should also be mentioned that it's an issue taking high priority right now. Your input is important and we thank you for that. Erik

Please test and report. Thank you. -
Among all the million changes happening today signature images are going to finally get under control. I don't mind seeing images in signatures but when they get to be the whole page that's too much. I did remove your signature and will be limiting the image size for all members to something reasonable. This isn't anything new it's been something I've been meaning to do for awhile now just never had any reason until today. Thanks for the help keeping our board reader friendly. Erik

FC I don't think you accounted for the refraction angle of light through a liquid medium and you didn't explain why UFOs don't leave condensation. Your explanation was excellent and your reference to tin foil hats is an amusing riot.

Over the past couple of days I've been implementing changes and additions to support the newest release of our forum software which is expected to be rolled out here toward the beginning of June. I apologize for the up and down time that we've experienced over the past 24 hours but it is a necessary evil when you're working with live production equipment. I for one am very proud of our overall uptime and aggregate traffic we provide to the community. Some of you may not realize that CombatACE as a whole has turned into quite a complete family of sites we're responsible for. We'd like to take just a brief moment to say how proud we are of everyone who contributes to this tremendous community. Thank you all. With the new release just around the corner for CombatACE I'd like to invite everyone to update their personal profile here. You'll be helping us out with testing if you can update your picture, avatar, and maybe add signature. Use this link to make your changes. EDIT MY PROFILE I'll make a post or blog about the new changes as they are rolled out to the community. The list is huge and the new features for everyone to use are vast. Look forward to that news as I make the changes to the site. Thanks for the help and support. Erik
