  1. Bravo Zulu to the Harrier driver. Good to see he prevented civilian casualties. Great also to hear they bagged istos illegitimos a few days later!
  2. Just applied the fix. Thanks, FC!
  3. I've got the same problem. Tried to redownload it, but to no avail. I'm looking around in the avionics.ini to see if I can't find what those parts are named.
  4. Well, all of 'em, but SF2E is at the head, ATM.
  5. Now this would be an interesting skin to see: "Red 31" - pic taken in 1993 when the F-14 played the role of Su-27 at NFWS or If you are doing a TOPGUN themed mod too, I could take a whack at those skins. Unfortunately, I'm not nearly as skilled as Russo or some of the other folks we've got here... GREAT Eagle and Phantom skins, BTW!
  6. This footage is also of them taking off without any stores! Something tells me you're right about the low fuel quantity. Taking off without a catapult assist and with bombs and missiles, that weight has to get shaved somewhere. Though I have to say, those Fulcrums look gorgeous, and that's definately a cool video!
  7. The aircraft I recall hearing about from Tomcat drivers and RIOs that went there: As Aggressors: A-4 (hard and slatted wing, depending on timeframe) to simulate MiG-17 F-5 to simulate MiG-21 T-38 Kfir (F-21) F-16N to simulate MiG-29 F-14 (only the A-model was used as an aggressor, IIRC) F/A-18A/C MiG-17 (4477th Exposure) MiG-21 (4477th Exposure) MiG-23 (4477th Exposure) From what I understand, attack aircraft (A-6, A-7), early warning (E-2), and plenty of other aircraft participated as well. Students typically came from F-8, F-4, F-14, and F/A-18 squadrons (from the foundation in 1969 until 1996)
  8. Just passed Space 100!

Well, I just passed Space 100! I'm starting BMEWS (Ballistic Missile Early Warning System) training on Thursday, which will be a fairly short course (something like 30 days or less). Following that, I'm headed to Thule AB, Greenland for a year. It has been a good birthday! BTW, Class video: Threw this together over three days and got to show it at the gratuation. Got a lot of laughs, which was great.
  9. F-14A Tomcat if available, otherwise, F-8 (any model, but the J is my first choice of the Crusaders). Failing either, F-15 Eagle (A or C).
  10. Today is......

    Felix Natalis Tibi!
  11. F-14

Or the recovery procedures that aren't in NATOPS but were common enough knowledge following 1976. EDIT: OK, I wrote about flat spins/recovery therefrom in my blog, so you could check that out, but to keep it simple - there are 2 ways to recover an F-14 from a flat spin. 1 - Passively.) Lock harness, hands off the controls and do nothing. Once the F-14 gets to thicker air below 10,000ft it will recover itself, slicing sharply nose down. 2 - Actively.) Lock harness, regulate engines, flaps up if they were down, then manually sweep the wings towards 58*+ (68* if you feel so inclined). The Center of Gravity and Center of lift will shift backwards, pushing the nose down and increasing authority over the control surfaces. Rudder against the spin and in under 7k total feet lost (6.5-6.2k from what I understand) the plane is fully recovered. Note: in both cases you lock the harness so you don't "eat the VDIG"
  12. F-14

Ejecting out of an F-14 is no more or less dangerous than ejecting out of any other aircraft. If the Tomcat is in a flat spin (which CAN be recovered from, btw), it does generate a more dangerous environment because of the low pressure area that develops above the plane, causing the canopy to hang for a moment before it clears - procedures indicate the canopy should be jettisoned first, clear, then eject. Or you could start manually sweeping the wings to 58* or more, rudder against the spin and avoid the whole problem.
  13. They do that automatically, or at least for me they do when AI setting is on "Hard." Usually if you're fighting MiG-17's or even some MiG-21's in an F-4 or better, they'll try to follow, but depending on how much energy you have, will have to let off or stall the wings, then you can loop down and eat their lunch. Now, against the newer Red Air (MiG-29, Su-27, -33, 35) it's not as easy to do; just for grins, I went into a big loop to see how long they'd follow me - indefinately was what I found, we just sat there doing loops till I got bored and tried something else, so try the Hard settings and you should be good. Also, the call "Ballistic" means the pilot is no longer in control of the plane; out of airspeed and falling is an example, like if he/she were "treed" by another plane, so if you're ballistic, you're not fighting.
  14. Grandsons first deer

    Congrats to your grandson!
  15. I don't think you need to apologize, Dave. It's him thats the asshat and you have no control over that; it is a shame because he reflects badly to new users and community members, but it isn't Dave's, FC's, Fubar's or anyone's fault here (though he likes to bring you all up for some reason). He got banned for being an ass and he won't let it drop so he brings it elsewhere. I just hope that TK will shut him up for good so no one else has to deal with his BS. Either he's 12 or needs serious mental help, almost seems obsessive...keep that AR-15 handy, Dave.
  16. Found an archived copy on my backup hard drive. Here's what I've got from my readme (I uploaded it here probably a while back): // This is an intro movie for WoE; in order to install, extract the movie file and IntroMovies.ini into the WoE main directory ("C:\Program Files\Wings Over Europe" for example.) Alternatively, copy only the movie, open IntroMovies.ini and insert Name=intro.wmv. (should look like this): [Movie001] Name=intro.wmv If you want to skip it, hit "esc" during play. // So it appears that you'll have to make an IntroMovies.ini if its not there yet. The verbage is [Moviexxx] and Name=name.format. Evidentally, it works with .wmv files. Of course, there's no guarantee this'll work in the 2-series, I've never tried it for that.
  17. Yes, actually. In the IntroMovies.ini, IntroMovie[000]= has to include the directory if its not right in the SF2 main directory i.e. IntroMovie[000]=directory\movie.format; but the thing is, I don't remember the verbage for it either, so it might not be IntroMovie[000], it could be Movie[xxx] or something else. I'm just about to start class ATM so I don't have it in front of me, when I get back I'll try to find my old install with the intro movie to see if I can't figure it out. Keep experimenting, though.
  18. It's been a while since I've used an intro movie, but it can be done. In the first-gen series it was under startup.ini, but now it looks like its under StrikeFighters2.ini in your SF2 main directory (not the mod directory). You'll have to designate a location of the startup movie. The line you're looking for is IntroMovieList= and I can't remember where IntroMovies.ini is located, or if that's just the name of the file I made to direct the game to the intro movie, that's just what my .ini is showing. I think the movie file had to be in .avi format, but there might be other acceptable formats, I just don't remember. Try this: Edit IntroMovieList= to IntroMovieList=IntroMovies.ini in your StrikeFighters2.ini Make an .ini file called IntroMovies.ini in your main SF2 directory Write in that file IntroMovie[000]=whatever your movie is.format <-(avi, mpeg, wma) See if it works. I don't know if you can throw them into campaigns. I hope this helps a bit, sorry I'm so rusty.
  19. My recommendation: buy it and you won't have the problem.
  20. From where did you download it? And did you pay for it? If it wasn't from ThirdWire it probably isn't a legal copy. If that's what you did, get a legit one. If not, and it is legit, you might want to bring it up on the ThirdWire.com forum.
  21. Hello, and welcome to Combat Ace. Instructions for adding weapons to the Strike Fighters series can be found in the Knowledge Base, and the direct link to adding weapons is as follows: http://forum.combatace.com/index.php?showforum=189 Be sure to read through and comprehend it before taking action. Also, make sure your game is up to the latest patch and that you have the latest version of the weapon editor. Download one of the weapon packs available right here at CA in the Downloads section. I think the AIM-54 can be found in bunyap's weapon pack, and 331KillerBee's Aviation Ordnance, but if I remember correctly the AO one works best with the Strike Fighters 2 series.
  22. Strange aircraft sightings

Saw a strange aircraft landing at Vandenberg 3 days ago at lunch. A silver-painted B-17 Flying Fortress buzzed over us at around 1115 or so on Thursday. I couldn't believe it! Don't see them flying overhead too often, and then landing at Vandyland? Made my day, for sure.
  23. Attention! MSgt Nesher ready for your orders!

    Congratulations, Master Sergeant!
