Be that a Valkyrie, FC!? -
Just about. My friend and I were playing HAWX and came to realize (we've been AC fans for a long time) that it's pretty much got every element from every AC mixed into it somehow. The only thing I think HAWX is better than AC for is the radio communications. Yeah, they get kind of annoying after a while, but at least they're not on the frequency telling the enemy that "their hate is slowing them down!" Dear God, do I hate AC's comms. Also, the fact that you can do 2-player campaign mode can make it tolerable enough to enjoy with a friend for a little while. Other than that, HAWX holds nothing over AC.

Nor true, nor false...cause I have no idea what that means. The person below me knows the type of plane LCDR Joe "Hoser" Satrapa currently flies (hint: it's a fire-fighting bird)

Yeah, I finally got to try HAWX and man was I disappointed. The cockpits are horriffic, the HUD mode looks like a call-back to PS1, the aircraft models are so-so, but inaccurate, the weapons don't even try to replicate the appearance of real life weaponry. And without "assist" mode on, you end up in this God-awful camera, yet with more available control over the aircraft without the ability to adequately use it. Agree with Scouser; keep the heck away from this one.

False The person below me owns and operates at least one pre-Nintendo NES game console (and may have been surprised that it/they work on an HDTV)

That is definately a good one. Got it the first time, too!

All that you touch All that you see All that you taste All you feel. All that you love All that you hate All you distrust All you save. All that you give All that you deal All that you buy, Beg, borrow or steal. All you create All you destroy All that you do All that you say. All that you eat And everyone you meet All that you slight And everyone you fight. All that is now All that is gone All thats to come And everything under the sun is in tune But the sun is eclipsed by the moon. There is no dark side of the moon really. matter of fact its all dark...

Think you've got the wrong album, ruhzyo! Us, and them And after all were only ordinary men. Me, and you. God only knows its not what we would choose to do. Forward he cried from the rear And the front rank died. And the general sat and the lines on the map Moved from side to side. Black and blue And who knows which is which and who is who. Up and down. But in the end its only round and round. Havent you heard its a battle of words The poster bearer cried. Listen son, said the man with the gun Theres room for you inside. I mean, theyre not gunna kill ya, so if you give em a quick short, Sharp, shock, they wont do it again. dig it? I mean he get off Lightly, cos I wouldve given him a thrashing - I only hit him once! It was only a difference of opinion, but really...i mean good manners Dont cost nothing do they, eh? Down and out It cant be helped but theres a lot of it about. With, without. And wholl deny its what the fightings all about? Out of the way, its a busy day Ive got things on my mind. For the want of the price of tea and a slice The old man died.

Ticking away the moments that make up a dull day You fritter and waste the hours in an off hand way Kicking around on a piece of ground in your home town Waiting for someone or something to show you the way Tired of lying in the sunshine staying home to watch the rain You are young and life is long and there is time to kill today And then one day you find ten years have got behind you No one told you when to run, you missed the starting gun And you run and you run to catch up with the sun, but its sinking And racing around to come up behind you again The sun is the same in the relative way, but youre older Shorter of breath and one day closer to death Every year is getting shorter, never seem to find the time Plans that either come to naught or half a page of scribbled lines Hanging on in quiet desperation is the english way The time is gone, the song is over, thought Id something more to say Home, home again I like to be here when I can And when I come home cold and tired Its good to warm my bones beside the fire Far away across the field The tolling of the iron bell Calls the faithful to their knees To hear the softly spoken magic spells.

"Hoser" Satrapa sez: "In the "A-" Turkey v Viper, you had to trick the hell outta 'em. In the B or D, the Viper made a nice lunch after the first turn!" You can also find a 2v2 (2 F-14 v 1 F-16 and 1 T-38) on Youtube where the Tomcat bags the Viper after the initial turn, his wing gets taken out by the T-38, but the vid ends before the fight finishes, with the Turkey in a hard turn. It's the pilot, not the plane. EDIT: About the manual wingsweep: that was one of Hoser's tricks, but it was a one-time use thing "if the Viper pilot had a brain in his head" Wings aft, Vanes out, and if the Viper pilot isn't paying attention to the Vc, he'll think the F-14 is at >1.4M. After the merge, flip wings to manual, "Zone 6", go vert and gun his ass.

Are those...live rounds, Rambler? (True!) The person below me owns an AR-series rifle, despite its small (and friggin' expensive) .223 round.

Boeing unveils new F-15 Silent Eagle
Caesar replied to Silverbolt's topic in Military and General Aviation
Considering both the current-gen C Eagle and the Viper can take the Su-30MKI, I don't think the Raptor is gonna have much difficulty, and is DEFINATELY not so much as a year behind the 25+ year old Flanker base. Not sure where you're getting that from. At the same time, this Eagle looks to me like nothing more than a marketing ploy and a waste of money. -
Dave, I might be willing to part with my rhino, but I'm at school for the moment and don't have an immediate means to get it to you. It's an old model, at least by a decade, and it's painted kind of...well...craptastic; a reflection of my skills at the time, but I'm sure you could either strip the old scheme or paint over it. Now I'm curious: Anyone else here play back in the 2nd edition? Back when you could kill 10 people (1D6+3Sustained Fire dice=up to 10 hits) in a single turn with one assault cannon armed terminator alone/missiles fired 72"/plasma guns created blast markers/there were over 10 types of grenade?
-
I did a custom paint scheme myself; I'm not sure what the point values would be today, but at the time it was around 5k points. (Something like 1.5 Termie squads (15) plus a few Command characters in termie armor, 5 tacs, 1 dev, 1 assault, 1 scout, 2 dreadnoughts, 6 tanks varrying from the Rhino to the Land Raider, 4 skimmers and 2 bikes for support, plus or minus some squads that I just can't recall right now) Again, no idea how many points that'd be in the current edition. EDIT: Well, I've done mods with modelling clay before, but THAT takes the cake!

Fulcrum Kill At friggin' LOW speed! Full flaps, he tried to zoom, I pitched the nose up, fell through 100kts down to about 70, pulled the trigger, got the kill, then around 60 or so, the nose sliced down (notice I'm gaining speed in the 'pit shot) as I tried to roll the aircraft with the rudders. Got speed, pulled out, mission accomplished...the other Fulcrum was wounded by one of our Vipers but got away. -
Space Marines - started with 'em over 10 years ago during the insane 2nd edition rules. They seemed like the best army for a beginner, but then I just took a liking to them and kept going. I haven't played in probably 4 years now, though.

Boeing unveils new F-15 Silent Eagle
Caesar replied to Silverbolt's topic in Military and General Aviation
Well, what I'd like to know is: how is this any stealthier than any other F-15/equal to the F-35? It's a Strike Eagle with canted tails! Its range will be impaired because it can only carry internal fuel and weapons to lessen its radar signature, leaving it with 4 AIM-120's or AIM-9's or some combination of the two, and a gun. The bubble canopy, FAST packs and engine intakes...hell the fuselage itself have not changed at all: that's not going to help its signature, and the canting of the tails isn't going to do much, either, especially front-on, where they're still visible. Putting some RAM on it might do something, but considering the F-35 is smaller, has a stealthy shape, has internal weapons in bays that don't bulge out of the aircraft and RAM, I just don't see how this "Silent" Eagle is going to compare to that. I'm also not an expert, so those perceptions don't mean a damn thing, but this really doesn't seem like the wisest way to spend money... -

Hey all, I'm on spring break and have been playing a fair amount of WoE/I and got to thinking that there's only one enemy plane that consistantly throws a HARD dogfight at me: the MiG-17. Just wondering what plane is the hardest for our members to beat in SF/WoV/E/I in a dogfight? In the Tomcat, most Eastern aircraft don't cause too much trouble in close, not even the Flanker or Fulcrum (as I've recently discovered), but unlike those aircraft, the Fresco handles damn well at low airspeed and can saddle my aircraft with relative ease if I'm not thinking...takes a lot of tricks to get away. In a Phantom, I usually end up full o' holes! I understand also that different aircraft are more and less capable of handling different threats...well...differently (max perform at different altitudes, airspeeds, have bigger or smaller turn radius, etc.) So I'm just curious: what is the aircraft that gives you the most trouble consistantly?
