Impression of WOI ater the New Patch
Caesar replied to a topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
I really like the new patch. I've noticed even my 3rd-party heaters will sometimes get fooled by the sun, and again, they have to be fired moreso in envelope than before, like prior to the April version. Also, I've noticed the radar gets fooled more often or looses lock more often as well, which I feel is good. So far am a fan of the patch. -
Might want to think about calling a doctor. And maybe the laptop manufacture.

AIM-54C just became my new favorite missile
Caesar replied to serverandenforcer's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
The AIM-54C ECCM/Sealed models had better ECCM than earlier versions of the -54C, and those were better than the -54A. The best model of the missile came out late, the Block 7's; Typhoid has hinted at their preformace aspects, but the exact data is classified. -
Roger that, will be there though I'm still not quite part of the family (244 days 'till commissioning, barring unforseen circumstances) but its looking good so far.

Yes, you can kill a MiG with a lance...
Caesar posted a topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Or rather a Sparrow that hasn't yet armed itself... These screens show multiple angles of the same shot; as my flight (2 F-14A, 2 F-8J) closed on the three remaining MiG-19's in the opposing flight, I fired an AIM-7 at the MiG seen in Angle 2 (4-o'clock high to my Tomcat). But as the AIM-7 left the fuselage rail, it slammed into another MiG-19 that was flying just below me, striking and destroying the MiG-19 literally right underneath my airplane; it destroyed him without exploding, and there was no damage done to my Tomcat. The darn thing's rocket motor had barely even fired! -

AAR said it was a hit and a kill, just kind of funny that the missile hit the wrong aircraft, or rather, the wrong aircraft hit the missile! -

While in TWS, select the target as you would in SEARCH and hit your acquire radar target button; you are now in Single Target Track mode and can fire your missile. After your first missile is away, use select next radar target and repeat. -

MIG 25 SPEED
Caesar replied to FLOGGER23's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
As Fubar stated, Operational speed is 2.35M, though test-wise the aircraft was pushed to beyond 2.4M and the aircraft has reached very close to 2.5M. Also, because of the possibility of RAMPS failure (the ramps that interrupt the flow of supersonic air into the engine), that speed was reduced again, or recommended at least, not to pass 1.88M. Either way, my objective was to explain that neither the Foxbat nor the Tomcat or Eagle can get close to their recorded high-speeds at low altitude, so there's really not a problem with Flogger23's Foxbat, he's just flying it too low to hit those high numbers. -
MIG 25 SPEED
Caesar replied to FLOGGER23's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
@FLOGGER23 Just a note on your original question: altitude is a big factor in how fast a plane can go. Take the F-14 or F-15, for instance, both have a top speed of roughly 2.5M, but on the deck, both aircraft are limited to about 1.2M. The Foxbat, while it can hit ~2.83M at altitude, at lower levels its not going to have that lightning fast speed. 5,000 feet is relatively low, so you're not getting anywhere near 2M. -
So, you're saying I can't be an true aviation fanatic and like the Tomcat? Sorry, but that plane shaped my life and made me obsessed with fighter aircraft and aviation in general. I am an aviation fanatic and a Tomcat lover and I consider the latter to be in the same category. EDIT: And just to piggyback a bit about what C5 said, what the hell is the deal with the excessive attacks against Tomcat fans? I would write a long diatribe on the Flying Brick and the Ego as a reply, hell I've got enough literature and have met enough people to tear both of those planes apart like you've been trying to do with the Turkey, but honestly it'd just piss off the people here who love those planes to include people who have flown and maintained them, just like your instigation of the Turkey crowd, so I ain't going there. What's the deal, man?

Nor does a patch about the Eagle's capabilities make it a better fighter than the Tomcat. That gold-plated sparrow shooter had its butt handed to it many times over by any and every model of Tomcat as much as it won. That picture is the outcome of the first dogfight between the Tomcat and Eagle at ACE/AIM and was part of a 2v2; the result was that Japan almost went with the Tomcat and it took the AF a fair amount of coaxing to keep the Eagle buy (price and maint. probably helped that too). General Knight (USAF) wanted the footage and audio destroyed after he learned of the incident, but the tapes survive to this day thanks to some teamwork between the pilots, groundcrews and Grumman. The Eagle in this picture was gunned by "Hoser" Satrapa at 250ft AGL, the other Eagle was gunned at altitude by "Turk" Pentecost. And why the Israeli's didn't pull out some tricks to beat the A-4 is beyond me! One such famous manouvre as described by D-Hose himself: The "Vorboshka",,, Holy s--t that brings back memories! It is not a recommended maneuver,,,, combat necessity only. My RO Hill Billy got a sprained neck out of the deal and was out of the hunt for several days. At very high speeds,, as the bogey is just sweetening his guns solution, roll the a/c 90 degrees to bogeys lift vector, then put on a "MAX",, I Mean "MAX" "g " yank for bout 2 potatoes, then unload and roll 45 degrees back, stabilize, yank a ,max 'g' in to the vertical. This will spit him out the bottom/ overshoot and usually end up neutral. The vapor ball Monroe Hawk Smith describes was caused by the initial 12.2 "g"s... VR D-Hose As previously reported the F-14 in question was thoroughly examined for signs of overstress=zero The 12.2 'g's was recorded on the TACTS range. HaaaR! Other Eagle pilots described his flying as "defying the laws of physics" in the Tomcat. It just goes to show that it is the carpenter, not the tools, and as far as I'm concerned, the Eagle was NEVER the better fighter, nor was the Tomcat; both had their advantages and disadvantages, and a good pilot would exploit both for their own favor. The Iraqis also have plenty of Eagle parts to use in their yards thanks to all of those F-15E's that got bagged in Desert Storm 1, and a single F-14B to throw in there. They got 18's and Tornados too, should they display them as well? Well, with the Regime change, none of that will happen, thank God! EDIT: well, the Tomcat is still flying, only for the wrong side, and to why we're still flying Eagles, I can't help it if SECDEF said we can't cut any more personnel to buy more Raptors! (Added job security for me, though!)

Super Hornet G Limit question
Caesar replied to deyv's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Good point, the plane might come back, but it might also need days of work. I recall that "Hoser" Satrapa put 12G on a Tomcat to evade a guns-kill and the plane didn't have a scratch on/in it, while a nugget (unnamed by the airframer) loaded around 9.9G and the plane was grounded with some of the internals twisted and parts pulled out of place. That later case might not have even been a combat hop, come to think of it! -
1,400 civilians estimated dead...fantastic.

So what do you fly?
Caesar replied to serverandenforcer's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Fav. plane: Tomcat. @i90807065 The F-14B and D have General Electric F110 engines that provide more thrust and far greater reliability over the Pratt and Whitney TF30's. The D also has an updated cockpit, HUD, Radar and avionics/electronics. Around 2000-2003 some B's got a brand new HUD too. -
Super Hornet G Limit question
Caesar replied to deyv's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
I used to have the Super Bug NATOPS, but I have no idea what happened to it. If I remember the info correctly, the Super Bug has a 7.5g symmetric limit. As everyone has already mentioned, combat loadouts change limits, and then there's rolling limits which are different than symmetric limits, usually a bit lower. EDIT: Also as said, in combat, the gloves come off; if you need 8g to survive on a plane rated for 6.5 (and its available at airspeed/altitude/etc), you're going to load 8g on the plane or go down with it in flames.
