  1. Either smack them in the teeth (hit 'em at long range), or get 'em low and slow and drop the Big Boys (flaps). Works well for me even on hard. Now if they've still got heaters...then it gets interesting... EDIT: Back on topic, Manfred, definately check out Marcfighters and the Modern Era A/C section here to fight newer, tougher opponents. The Flanker and Fulcrum should not disappoint you if you're looking for a challange in your Eagle/Viper/whatever.
  2. TRON, Tron 2.0, Tron Legacy

I LOVE Tron. Got me the 20th anniv. DVD set. It took me two times to really 'get' the movie, but I think its great. Also a fan of the game Tron 2.0 (Lightcycles rawk). I can't believe it didn't get best effects because the board thought the team had "cheated" by using a computer. Now, everything's CGI, and the computers don't break every 30 minutes!
  3. Long range A2A loadout could have been 2PH-3SP-2SW, 4PH-2SP-2SW, 4PH-4SW, 6PH-2SW, 2PH-2SP-2SW...I've seen pics of all of those (though I've noticed personally that the 4 sidewinder config doesn't show up often in pictures, maybe I'm just not looking in the right places). To do a 2-3-2 you have to reassign the pylons because by default you end up loading the fuselage sparrow stations in pairs and when 2PH are loaded up front only one AIM-7 can be loaded on the aft sparrow station in reality because of the Phoenix pylons obstructing part of the middle Sparrow station. Also note: you could load 2 LGBs, a LANTIRN pod, 2 SW and 1 PH at the glove pylon and still consider it a "long-range" loadout because you can still reach out and touch someone before blowing up their runway. Doing that takes an INI edit also.
  4. I was also wondering about the fuzzy HUD, thanks for the fix FC. Little bit on g-lims: According to NATOPS, the -18E/F is a 7.5g-limit frame. This may have changed since they fixed the wing problem but I haven't seen anything on that yet. Both the F-15 and F-14 were 9g birds at one point, NAVAIR restricted the Tomcat to 6.5g in the 1970's, I think the -15C kept 9 until just recently; unfortunately I can't find my source there so take that with a grain of salt but I understand it got lowered to 7.5g shortly after the ANG F-15 break up. They also change if there's a fleetwide problem and can dip way low temporarily. In wartime, I understand g-limits are only there if you're not being shot at.
  5. Mega Poll: Greatest Rock Albums of All Time

That's actually a good question. Best Ofs get all the great songs together (in most cases)...C5???
  6. Mega Poll: Greatest Rock Albums of All Time

Led Zeppelin, IV (AKA ZoSo) - Black Dog, Rock and Roll, Stairway to Heaven, this one is just full of hits. Boston, Boston - Another great album with songs that defined the group. Pink Floyd, Dark Side of the Moon - Floyd had a lot of great albums but this one is their greatest work IMHO. Foreigner, Double Vision - Think this was one of Foreigner's greatest. Nazareth, Hair of the Dog - A hard rock sound all the way through, this one is my favorite by Nazareth. Those are my 5. There's a bit of bias in there too, I like a harder rock sound. I'd otherwise have included The Beatles either Sgt. Pepper's or their self-named album (The White Album), the Rolling Stones, hell a lot of 'em, but that's what I came up with.
  7. Check the knowledge base for how to add carriers to WoI. For some reason or another in WoI you can only take off properly if you turn autopilot on for the catshot. Haven't gotten my wingmen to land on the carrier yet.
  8. Your first combat flight sim...

My first "true" sim was Fleet Defender Gold. I don't really count the console games, which were more games than sims (After Burner, Top Gun, etc.)
  9. Well, what you could do is put the fuel tanks on station 7, that gives you six to play with. Thing is, the loadout screen only allows for 6, and I don't think anyone's gotten more than that to show up; kind of a wall like GodSaveTheUSA said.
  10. Technically it is possible, you just won't have the ability to select what is loaded on stations 7, 8, etc. I modded my Tomcat to split up the weapon stores so that I could load a 2-3-2 (2 PH, 3 SP, 2 SW) loadout, as with 2 AIM-54's on stations 3 and 6, a Sparrow can't be loaded on station 5 nor can 5 be loaded with a Sparrow if TARPS is installed, and I also wanted to be able to load LANTIRN on the glove pylons 1B or 8B and a Sparrow or Phoenix on the opposite of the TARPS. So, I re-assigned the weapons stations to take StationID's 1 through 6 and marked fuel tank stations as StationID=7. As a result, I will always fly with external tanks, so long as they are in the loadout.ini, but I cannot select to equip them or remove them from the loadout screen. You always have the option of jettisoning them before takeoff if you dont' want to fly with externals this way.
  11. Libyan SU-22 with AIM-9 Sidewinder ?

Prolly an Atoll, like SidDogg said. http://www.fas.org/man/dod-101/sys/missile/row/aa-2.htm Looks like the PL-5 with a painted head, or an R-13M.
  12. After your wingman fires his first missile, if it's an AHM, recall him, select the next target and tell him to attack it. If the missile blows up, recall him and tell him to attack again. Do this until he's out of BVR Missiles. If you're flying with SAHMs, tell him to attack, wait to see if the missile hits or misses, and after one or the other happens, recall him and resend the attack command, either to the same target (if its a miss) or a different one (if its a hit)
  13. One More Shift

Godspeed, good luck, and thank you for your service!
  14. Flat Spinners

I've spun the F-14; it took about 10K feet to recover, and it wasn't easy to get into.
  15. Ok, thanks. Gettin kinda busy, so I'll re-check my numbers a little later and see what he says.
  16. What is wrong with the USAF?

Sounds like I'll be having fun after I commission...
  17. Good point, not much excess G off the cat. I'll keep at it, then, but I'm gonna have to go over those charts again.
  18. Unfortunately most of my data comes from reference books and NATOPS, graphs are mostly within NATOPS but not to fine detail, so I guess there's a bit too much guesswork. Noted, will leave the FMs to the pros.
  19. F-35A

It'll get done when it gets done. Wouldn't you rather have a good plane than a rushed one?
  20. I have...with my Tomcat; long range Phoenix keeps me alive without risking a dogfight and I'm not striking ground targets under adverse SAM conditions. And yes, I did notice the SV flag, was kind of like...WTF?
  21. What was your favorite childhood toy?

Snap-tite Tomcat models...no sh*t I was into that plane at the age of 3 (1988). I got a shot of me with it back home but no scanner; VF-24 Red Checkertails (pre-Renegades) markings.
  22. IIRC it's because the -F and -M are USAF designated instead of NATO. Should be an easy fix.
  23. In the Avionics.ini there are different radar modes, correlated to different numbers. RangeSetting[1]=10 RangeSetting[2]=20 RangeSetting[3]=50 RangeSetting[4]=100 RangeSetting[5]=200 In the older Avionics.ini for the Tomcat, there are 6 settings, going from 5 to 200. Setting 5 is 100NM. Find the line "TrackRangeSetting=". Make sure it looks like this: TrackRangeSetting=1,2,3,4,5 This allows the radar to track targets at 5, 10, 20, 50 and 100NM modes. The F-14 with the new avionics included in the Harrier Campaign or The Trooper's Cockpit Upgrade (uses the same avionics) has a different set up. I'm not as familliar with its ini, but there is a line TrackRange=160, and if I spot a target with the 200NM scan, I can switch to 100NM, hit select next radar target, the cursor reaches the top of the radar screen and I can then track them beyond 100NM. This number indicates to me that the target can be tracked at 160NM.
  24. It's under the NATO designation; AA-10A, B, C, D and A_G (the German model). Unless the ones on the MiG in this pic are updated, those are in the WP.
