  1. To illustrate, here is Stigler's "perfect" cockpit, from his "perfect" Targetwhatever game. (teehee, I called it a game) http://www.targetcorregidor.com/P-35_front_pit.jpg Outstanding work Klavs. I've had the honor of riding in a Mustang, absolutely beautiful bird.
  2. hahaha, oh wow. Converted your feet to meters or something?
  3. Why don't you take up these problems with that website's owner instead of coming here?
  4. Oh Canada, our home and native land... I should really learn the whole thing since I'm half Canuck.
  5. While certain tips can be gleaned from Mustang's tutorials, his methods aren't very good. In fact the only tutorial of his I ever go back to recall some things are when I dumbly forget how to set up animations. For the most part I'd avoid those tutorials though. A far more effective modelling tutorial IMO would be Julhelm's unfinished F-101 Tutorial http://forum.combatace.com/index.php?showtopic=23309&hl=
  6. Boeing unveils new F-15 Silent Eagle

The Boeing tanker fit the contract requirements to a T. If the Air Force didn't want exactly what they put in the requirements then what the hell were they looking for? Contract requirements don't just set a minimum bar, they set a max as well. Going above and beyond the requirements isn't always the right thing, especially when you're supposed to be saving tax payers' money while getting the most out of the product. Its the standard contract bidding process, meet the requirements for the lowest price. Boeing did that, Airbus did not. The GAO came to this conclusion and that's why the Northrop Grumman/Airbus win was thrown out.
  7. Kegety's DXDLL completely transformed OFP for me years ago. I wish we had something similiar for the SF engine, especially to adjust the contrasts and colors like DXDLL did in OFP.
  8. Boeing unveils new F-15 Silent Eagle

Beat me to it. I was talking about one of my modeling projects with an aeronautical engineer friend just a few days ago, specifically about the angles of horizontal stabilizers. Anyway, long story short we ended up discussing stealth characteristics and how a 90 degree angle between the horizontal and vertical stabilizers is the worst possible setup as it produces the highest radar return. His example was the F-15, and today the first thing I noticed in these pictures was the redesigned vertical stabilizers. Also, when can we expect a TMF release?
  9. Battle of the Bulge!

Well last summer I was 196lbs (6'0" medium frame) when a girl I was dating talked me back into running. I used to run in high school but a car accident put an end to that. By the time winter came and long after that girl dumped me, I was down to 175 and running 3 miles a day, followed by 20 pushups, 50 situps, and some weights. I kept the weight off in the winter but that was probably due to muscle loss. Now I'm 177 and just started running again. First attempt last week ended up nearly passing out at a 1 3/4 miles. This week I'm back at 2 miles and doing the full post-run routine again but the strength is definitely noticeably gone. Not looking forward to fighting my way back to full strength.
  10. While I think the usefulness of Wrench's findings are debatable with current models, as is already talked about in this thread, I think the real worth of his efforts lie in that fact that from now on modelers can work with this in mind. Whether or not they decide to use it is up to them. This thread also brings something else to mind that has always bugged me. This community I think is in very desperate need of a quality pit modeling tutorial. One that not only covers the actual model itself, but setting up .ini's and all the bits and pieces necessary. I've never scene a well done graphic tutorial of the process, and I think it would benefit modders greatly. I think it would be great if TMF could find the time to put together a set of tutorials but that may be asking a bit much of an already bogged down modding group.
  11. I went to this airshow in 07 I think, back when I was still living in Florida. My dad was down there on vacation at the time too so we went together, first airshow I'd been to with him since I was a kid. Great show, especially Snodgrass in the F-86. Also the first time I saw the Starfighters team. My pictures from 2007. http://www.flickr.com/photos/thepirateking/tags/tico/
  12. Sonnuva... I was thinking of making a B model two seater too.
  13. Joke right? I put campaigns. From day one I've wanted the dynamic campaign to be deeper. More targets like bridges, rail facilities, military units that aren't attacking/defending, ground convoys, maritime shipping that really transport supplies. If I destroy a bridge I want that supply source to be cut, everything has to reroute another way, and the enemy will maybe send in a bridging unit to fix it. I want it to be a little more transparent in the modder side also that this is happening. It would also be great if this ran in some sort of pseudo real time, and you could pick the targets and timing of your missions. Maybe also get to pick targets for missions flown by your squadron, but not necessarily by you, so those pilots aren't all sitting around with their thumbs up their butts. I'd also like a scramble function. Aero Elite Combat Academy for PS2 had this great feature where you'd be going through the menus and all of a sudden a scramble alarm would come up and you'd sortie to whatever it was. You wouldn't even know what the problem was till you were briefed in the air. Something like that would be fun. Also make ground battles less static, its all the same right now. Missions like getting called in to take out a building with a sniper team in it or take out an artillery unit. Tons of possibilities. All of it very hard to implement.
  14. There's a ton of other things I'll take over air refueling any day.
  15. Wow, it is quite detailed. Although recessing the windows seems a bit...overkill for this sim. Still, great work.
  16. It will get ventral stabilizers, been focusing on the landing gear lately, but I'm getting concerned about ground clearance on rotation so they may be pretty small. Wings are still anhedral, should be relatively the same as the F-8 since it followed the 3 view. Maybe just doesn't show up in the render cuz of the camera angle. Hump stays cuz I like it. Big vertical stabilizer stays cuz I think it makes it look American, and its not like engineers didn't make design mistakes in the 60's (and possibly fix on a later model...). Problem with the landing gear is that the aircraft is very narrow. The F-1 widens a great deal after the intakes, whereas the F-112 returns to the same width as the nose. The landing gear is very much like the F-104. Moving intake cone ain't gonna happen at this point, too far along, too big of a headache.
  17. Not sure yet. Still a ways from being in sim. I think I decided on the J57 to power the A model, with a possibility of a J75 in a later version, obviously with some modifications to the rear fuselage. But the J57 fits in there perfectly right now. Performance wise...well I think it'd be great if it turned out mediocre all around, heh heh. I'll start crunching numbers and looking at data once I'm done with the model.

Actually I did this texture for version of the model I use for renders. But it does look great in-game doesn't it? RIP Commander Fokker
  19. On Windows XP and probably Vista. Double Click on the file, should open in the Windows Picture and Fax Viewer. Click on the floppy icon at the bottom, the Save button. Use drop down menu to set Save As Type to JPEG and type whatever name you want, and navigate to whatever location you want to save it. Click Save. Presto.
  20. Its now the F-112. That I'm willing to change. It also needs a name. The design for the most part however, is now not going to change. I'm lazy. Deal with it. I did consult my old roommate and good friend who's an aeronautical engineer in the industry. He recommended extending the intakes, just as Gunrunner pointed out. The wing doesn't have variable-incidence, its fixed. The wings don't fold either. I approached it with the mentality that this would be a design meant to be exported to poorer countries, maybe to keep them from buying Soviet equipment. Therefore, its designed to be dirt cheap, no fancy features. You're lucky you get a radar and an ejection seat. Anyway, that's my approach. Open(ish) to suggestions, but its my project now, muhahaha. Release date: .......before the YF-19, that I can assure you.
  21. Haha, that reminds me, when I was making my custom paint job for the F-14 I went and painted the pilot helmets to match. While I was in there I put my face on the pilot, only to find out in game you can't even see his face anyway because his mask is on and his visor is down.
  22. I think you mean Red Phoenix. Well both books include commies and Larry Bond
  23. I'm not sure about M3.0 but at M1.0 you can fire the rounds and remain clear of the flight path as long as you aren't descending. The rounds will rapidly lose velocity until they reach the optimum aerodynamic velocity, and then would lose velocity normally as the energy bleeds off (I think...).

  25. Miramar crash update

No, I highly doubt he will face criminal charges. It was an accident caused by bad maintenance, poor management, and bad decision making. The only way he would face criminal charges is if he purposely crashed the aircraft into that house, which he obviously did not. At least that's the way it works in the civil field, but I'd be surprised if the military would be any different.
