Well I don't think anyone is going to get fired from the controller force for this. Its time on the beach, as thats the precedent set for this sort of stuff. As of yesterday ALL tower visits were stopped. Unfortunate side effect of the media coverage is that the FAA has to do something to appease the public. I'm sure its just temporary though. OvS: Unfortunately he wasn't just reading clearances, he was giving control instructions to aircraft from the local position. These include take off and landing clearance and contacting departure after take off. The controller professionalism I'm question is the controller involved in all this. Understand that we're contantly fighting with the administration to respect us just a little more and to trust us just a little more, in order to combat the constant increase in new rules and regulation over how we control aircraft. The more controllers mess up, the more silly rules we get, the less efficient we can be. This was a case of breaking the rules and getting caught that really wasn't worth it.

Wow, negative rep for making an attempt to explain from someone firsthand why this situation turned out the way it did? Are you that afraid of reality? Whatever. You're welcome.

Ugh, after a long day at work (and certainly not made any easier by some idiots on the other side of the country IE JFK) I was kinda hoping I wouldn't find this thread here, or at least you guys wouldn't have gone down this path. I'll put it simply then, and maybe argue it tomorrow. They broke the law. They really broke the law. Not a "oh its just fun" kind of broke the law, but a, "this flies in the face of FARs and SOPs and we all know its on a recorded line" kind of broke the law. Every controller at my facility agrees, this guy was an idiot. I don't care if no one was in danger or he was just parroting his dad, its not funny, its not professional. We live and die by our professionalism. If my voice even cracks and a pilot hears that, I can lose his trust in an instant. For all the controllers I know and respect, this is entire situation isn't a laughing matter.

Damn near perfect use of bump mapping there. Just subtle enough to make a difference in the feel of the visual effect, but not in your face obvious. Great work. -

On the back burner. Working on the KAW mod right now. This is one of about 4 SF projects I have going right now. -

Does the bump map have to be the same resolution as the texture bitmap? Or can it scale up and down? Reason I ask is because it would be nice to have fine lines for the bump mapping which aren't always possible with the normal texture sizes we use. -

I'll probably just make a Gearing or some other ship that was still in service. The more I mess around with the Fletcher model the more I realize how badly I made it. -

Yeah, lots of useful stuff in there. Still kinda confused just when the 3 inch guns were fitted to the Fletchers. I've seen at least one picture of them in 1951 so I guess thats good enough to equip. Still, its really hard to find good references on Korean era Fletchers. -

I've also collected a reasonable amount of info on the LST. Couldn't find a complete three view for the front view but its not exactly a complicated hull in any case. However, there are quite a few different configurations so if there was any one in particular you were looking for let me know. I plan on making two versions: One with the bow doors closed for use as a unit, and then one with the doors open and the ramp down for use as a scenery object. -
Yup, been up here about 6 months now. Training on the local position now. Pretty happy with things so far. If its any consolation to those poor guys drifting down through the freezing air, I DO have to give up some of my airspace so they can do that. Which means I have to work slightly harder.

What was with the engine before and after that spin? That wasn't a compressor stall was it? -
Awesome stories and thanks for your service. That school is still there, actually they've got a lot of brand new buildings for it now. I almost feel bad watching those poor guys getting shoved out of the choppers in the middle of winter.

If the military's plans were to continue making the semi-manned vehicles I wouldn't have mentioned it. But the Reaper opened the door and its very obvious that all services are moving full steam toward autonomous vehicles. The Air Force is definitely spearheading the movement. Its a slippery slope to say the least.

Too many to list. But my favorites would be "Boyd" and "Red Sun Setting". Currently reading "Every Man a Tiger".

I'm resurrecting this. How's everyone doing on their general fitness? I'm doing terrible Eating too much and exercising too little unfortunately. I blame the job. Cut my lunches at work down a bit and only light breakfasts. Also started climbing the stairs to the tower once a day if I get the chance. 270 foot tall tower with 408 steps, its definitely a little workout. Cold weather has kept me on the treadmill all winter which is why I think I've lost a lot of interest in running. Down to twice a week if I'm lucky. Can't wait for some warmer weather and less rain so I can get back on the park trail and enjoy the scenery and fresh air. Got a lot of work to do come spring time.

Try not using yaw amounts over 180. ie MaxYaw=-140 MinYaw=140 That's how I got it to work on the ships. Never done the airplanes though. -

I have a big project going, although it doesn't really have any new planes. But it should give you reason to fly some planes you might not have flown before, at least variations of planes you may have flown before.
