  1. Here is my first attempt at skinning for Strike Fighters series. My obsession for historically accurate pilot skins and my work on them is well known in IL-2 series community. For the last week or so I have discovered the SF World... I must say I have seen some excellent skinjobs on pilots here in SF community... Here is my first attempt on doing so...more of trying to find my steps on the new ,for me, template... I used a skin based on a Diego Losano's template, (he must be something like a guru on the matter), as a base, for creating an early Korean War USAF pilot to match with the early Sabres I've downloaded recently. In this WiP shots you can see the P1-B helmet worn with B-8 goggles, typical for the period. The rest of the uniform and gear are stil WiP... I wonder is there a way in SF to have different pilot skins on planes as we do in IL-2 series? (as a menu option like plane skins-loadouts). Here is my work on the same theme for IL-2 Have in mind that the actual pilot skin there is only 256x256
  2. I want to contribure as I can to this project so I started skinning pilots with historically correct for the period uniforms and equipment... Here is a first WiP of a USAF pilot for 1950-52 wearing P1-B helmet with B-8 goggles.
  3. I have SF2 combo... the mods involved were: F-86 E10 (my plane), MiG-15 bis (enemy) and the map was: better textured Korea... I was playing a single mission and while trying to save a wingman in trouble, I noticed that I could see my frienly plane over 2 miles ahead but couldn't see the enemy I was chacing half a mile away. What I was seeing was an empty red square with exaust fumes that suddebnly became a plane when I reduced the distance to less than O.4 nm. I double checked it and if I was targeting anything it disappeared beyond that distance. I also checked the targeting system because I had changed it earlier to hard, but it was set to normal...don't know if it has to do with it in any case...
  4. Try the SF1 downloads section. There are there some environmental mods that will change your game a lot and they work fine with SF2. Find what suits you best.
  5. Anti-Aliasing 8x, in NVidia settings with Override any Application set to on, works fine also.
  6. I bought the game a week or so ago too... I think essentials too, are the environmental changes that I found in SF1 section but can apply to SF2 without problems...
  7. I agree with ojcar... This way you can simulate tours of duty also.
  8. I have the same problem with Dels ( my specs are almost identical to his also). I have a merged install purchased on line, a week ago, so it was prepatched already. I thought at first that it got to be the card drivers so I updated to 196.21... The problem remains though... I tried Old Diego's solution no good also... I also see sometimes the same thing on terrain tiles, sea included. I have no such problem on my new laptop whatsoever...
  9. I've downloaded the last version of Le Missionneur. There are some cool features there, but it can't see my SF2 combo installation! Is there a way to use it in SF2 series?
  10. I woulld be gratefull if someone who knows, give me a hint where to find the Sabre in Dogzero1's screenshot, (a link?) I've got the early Sabres from the SF2 Download Section but the skins are not as good as that one's is. Is it from the same pack I've got and I was just fooled by the lighting on the specific screen? Thanks.
  11. " Wrench: it's the stock Sabre skin. " What the heck! Is there an F-86 by default in my game and never noticed it?
  12. Great shots guys! Where did you find that Great Sabre skin Dogzero1?
  13. Is there a special trick to activate pilot skins in SF 2? I have a Pilot folder in my mods directory. I have there pilots and seats from already installed plane mods; others in their own folders, others no. I downloaded a great set of HD pilots from the SF1 section. I put them in folders just like the other pilots I had and named them after the lod_001 name par ex: Red3202 I properly edited the DATA ini of the plane I want to enable them: // Crew --------------------------- [Pilot] SystemType=PILOT_COCKPIT PilotModelName=Red3202 SetCockpitPosition=TRUE Position=0.0,2.50, 0.73 MinExtentPosition=-0.25, 2.10,-0.40 MaxExtentPosition= 0.25, 2.85, 0.91 HasArmor=TRUE ArmorMaterial=GLASS Armor[FRONT].Thickness=64 CanopyNodeName=Canopy CanopyAnimationID=3 Alas, I keep having the default pilot skin in the plane... I checked the spelling over and over again! What do I do wrong and the skins don't appear? Any ideas?
  14. A scale spoiler for the game also is the different level of detail on various ground objects and the terrain texture tiles... the ground looks blury and the objects crisp... When you fly close to the ground they look like floating on it. Is there a way to fix this? How this is not yet adressed in SF2? I mean what's the need for a 1024x1024 mp pilot skin that the game supports, if it can't support larger ground tile texture resolutions... Am I wrong?
  15. I've just noticed this strange bug in MiG-17 A... Only the pilot casts shadow, not the plane ! Has anyone noticed this before? Graphics are maxed out. The MiG is the stock one...modded flyable, with new pilot skin also... although AI when the picture was taken...
  16. Well not actually,I downdoaded my game recently and was updated by default, but I installed a couple of Campaigns... The funny thing is that even if I had already made a copy of the Aircraft folder, stored in the same directory (unfortunately) my game changed the inis in there too...go figure
  17. I checked it out too and I found the shadows enabled... [shadow] CastShadow=TRUE ShadowCastDist=10000 MaxVisibleDistance=800 I found another problem though... I'm loosing the cockpit .ini entries from the modded planes! It happened twice...for some reason the game restores the edited ini files to their original form. Is this because of an error on my computer?.. because it doesn't happen in my laptop where I have also a modded installation...
  18. Hi all, Thanks for the warm wellcome yesteray! Today I got the whole bunch of SF2 series... :) Downloading now the bonus merged install. Is there a comulative mod that's easy to intall... (Drop it in your game directory, saying), to start with? 'cause even if I'm a rather experienced in IL-2 modding, I'm having a hard time here. I didn't manage anything to work yesterday... In IL-2 we have a mod activator that makes your life easy. Things here remind me the first steps of IL-2 modding with lots of editing work needed... I spend all day yesterday, reading topics here on modding but... things elementaty to you who play and mod for years seem mountains to me... Thanks
  19. Thank you all, for your support guys... I've sorted things out... It took me a day or so but I guess I got overwhelmed... Thank you all for your patience..
  20. Hi all, I'm new to SF series... I just got SF2 Israel, (so forgive my ignorance) and wanted to add some mods. I got the cat extractor from the Utilities section, installed it but it seems that I cannot use it properly??? Every time I try to extract a cat file I get an error messege. Sould I try reinstalling it? Do I have to extract every cat file in my game to start adding mods? Thanks.
  21. Thanks TurtleHawk! I've been reading the forums all afternoon, but I haven't figured out the trick...yet. For Example I tried to install the Hollywood explosions mod. According to the installation instructions I have to find and buck up two Folders named Flight and Effects. I found the Flight folder...no trace of the Effects folder though! I Opened with the cat tool the FlightData.cat and found some relevant files with the Hol. Eff. mod that are supposed to be replaced, but where on earth is that Effects folder and how can I put the modded file back to the game? I think I'm missing something funtamental here. I am used to IL-2 mods and modding and having a hard time here...
  22. Yes I've made such skins. Send me a PM with your e-mail so I can send them over to you.
