  1. Well first off I took my Pilot of 56 Sqd up. He had 13 confirmed, 8 rejected, 29 claims and two DFC. He had fifteen hours of flight time. Took him over the lines as a bomber escort. On the way back...boom flak...crash landed, pilot is now a POW...he also in his time had taken on and killed three aces. (this was my first mission of the day) So I decided to take out my Jasta 11, AlbIII early, pilot. He had 8 confirmed with 7 pending....last flight I had killed two aces of RFC 24. So up we go and bump into RFC 24 again...they dive I turn wham engine shot out and in flames didn't have time to blink....pilot dead...(that was my first flight today with him) So I take up my up and coming SE5 viper pilot....flown 6, killed 5 and 3 pending...(two of those aces)....all goes well and we meet up with Jasta 40 I think it was....shot down one ace and was now hitting Hermann Gilly hard when wham enemy bus smashed right into me...dead.... So three flights one after the other and all my favourites dead or captured, all except one..... My Camel pilot with two DFC's and I'm not taking him up today....he has 8 claims waiting to come through and 11 confirmed....not risking it....I have a few new recruits all itching to get up in the clouds... I love this sim....great highs and terrible lows...
  2. With a some practice today and flying her as a fighter Eric Morecombe managed to put in claims for 8 kills....before some idiot pilot (most likely still had the mud from the trenches on his boots) smashed into him...so I'm afraid Eric Morecombe is no more...bring me sunshine...bring me rain...bring me laughter... Norman Wisdom has just come to France to fly the Brisfit...see how he will do.... I love the BrisFit now...just took abit of getting used to the size of the plane and it being a two seater...same feeling the pilots had I suppose when they first saw her.
  3. I'm terrible at maths. Could you please tell me what FOV would be good for 1440 x 900. Thanks.
  4. Will have to put my time into it. Think I will start off a new career in the Brisfit. Eric Morecombe (shame you can't name the observer as he would be called...Ernie Wise) will be my brisfit pilot....see how he goes.
  5. Very true it isn't a game...it's World War 1.....
  6. Really like the Brisfit after reading about it. However I find the bus hard to get kills in. Shame it didn't have two front guns instead of one. I agree it's hard to take down when fighting against it.
  7. I bought OFF phase 3 and then HitR around their release dates. I have recently put alot more time into the sim and I have to say it's one amazing game. Probably the most immersive game I've played since I had Elite on the BBC B back in '83. The tension you have when taking off for a offensive patrol deep behind the lines with a pilot who is doing well with some ace kills and a couple of medals is intense. The work gone into it boggles the mind...all those skins and the ace dossier is a novel in it's self. So I can only imagine how good phase 4 will be as any improvement to enhance the experience is going to blow me away. Just had to sing it's praises. I bought RoF recently which got me back into OFF and I find for every hour I play on RoF I'm flying 5 on OFF.
  8. It's OK managed to do abit of editing. It's OK managed to do abit of editing.
  9. I'm using Creaghorns Bloom\HDR mod. I love it but it is a little too dark and when I go back to OFF settings it's way to light. So is there any way I can lighten up Creaghorns mod just a touch? Is there a config file I can alter? I don't want to start messing with my monitor settings. Thanks
  10. High in the empty blue by Revell is one book I really want to read and own...trouble is at £75 I will have to keep my fingers crossed for a re print.
  11. Good luck and al the best...hope it works out for you....
  12. Isn't it random who is reported missing\dead and kills they have claimed for rather than what actually happened during the mission?
  13. "For sale: baby shoes, never worn"...Hemmingway showing how you can write a story in six words....amazing.... Sorry abit off topic there....just the writing thing made me remember this quote....
  14. Thanks mate.....cna't wait for this now...just been getting back into the game again and loving it...been awhile since I started her up....
  15. OT...Bullethead I have an idea for a game if you fancy casting your eyes at it at some point...involves WW1 airwarfare Just an idea though...have know programming no how...have thought about teaching myself so I could develop this idea...but it would probably take me ten years!!
  16. Here here....the OP has my sympathy....this government are protecting the businessmen and rich and screwing everyone lese as the Tories usually do...and those Liberals...yellow thats what they are...clinging on to a little bit of power....sold their soul...disgusting...I'm a single parent and disabled...just waiting to screw me over with my disability benefit...then I will really be in the sh1t...
  17. Thanks old chap...
  18. This is my feeling on the two sims...if you want to fly a WW1 plane buy RoF if you want to fly a plane in WW1 buy OFF....I play both...more time is spent on OFF due to the atmosphere...though I go back to RoF due to the feeling of flight and beautiful planes...love the fact there is no throttle on the Airco and EIII just a blip switch....I will say RoF has the edge on the plane sim aspect...but OFF has spades of atmosphere and a superb campaign system...oh and loads of planes to fly... Also no the planes very rarely explode...I've seen it once so far and it isn't really a hollywood explosion either just looks catastrophic. My niggle is sometimes the wings when bent look more like metal than canvas.... By the way I'm not knocking OFF in any way...at the moment I see it as a superior game. Due to it's engrossing campaign system, it's amazing atmosphere, it's better looking scenery and clouds, it's massive scale and all in all more entertaining. RoF will I believe take over from OFF phase 3...then it will be upto OFF phase 4. Thanks for the tips Uncleal....I do have damage messages on as I didn't know you could turn them off...I don't use labels though nor padlock...always hated padlock in any sim anyway...
  19. Have it set on medium....I understand all kinds of damage is caused...just I've had my wing hit numerous times and when I take a look I see nothing...I understand that many bullets miss but when they are hitting it takes alot before you see any damage on your plane..would just like to see some superficial damage shown...RoF hits the mark with this...however other aspect like the scenery and clouds look so much better in OFF. Plus the amazing campaign and a living war going on... I hope OFF 4 has lighting and shadows as good as RoF and a more detailed graphical effect with regards to damage...
  20. ^^good library...have a fair few oldies aswell....
  21. Maybe I could have rephrased the question...however I thought everyone on here would know all about Bloody April so I suppose I was a little vague in what I was wanting to know i.e why was there a file call Bloody April in the campaigns folder when you couldn't play specific campaigns... So I apologise.... Yes I have a slightly over the top book collection ( I have personally bought about 150 or so the rest where inherited. I also have a fair few books on WW2 mainly the East Front) and not all have been read and a fair few have only been part read as they didn't hold my interest as we all know not all books are good even on a subject we may be obsessed with...not all are academic a fair few are novels....I have a fair amount of memoirs aswell. Out of all those books my favourite series is Jack Sheldons The German Army.....series. His fifth in the series on Ypres 1914 is supposed to have been published recently but I'm still waiting on it....it's a superb series and highly recommended.
  22. Blimey...I know all about Bloody April I just wondered why there was a campaign file when as far as I know you can't access a specfic campaign. @uncleal....I have a collection of over 400 WW1 books, many on the airwar, so funny enough I know about Bloody April....I may be miss reading your tone but your coming across as offhand and rude. @Mike and Winder your spot on on what I was asking..thought that was the case..Thankyou @Olham...will do thanks @Hasse thanks for taking time out to explain. I'm afraid I already know but again thanks mate
  23. I'm not saying I don't see damage I do....but it takes an awful lot of shooting to show any...it's either catastrophic or nothing...i.e My wing tip clipped anothe rplane and I saw a damaged wing...I've set planes on fire and seen them lose a wing etc...but I've also watched the AI fight it out a few times and today even I saw a Fokker EIII get hit countless times and I saw no real visable damage, the plane smoked abit but hits where hitting the wing and fusealge and nothing was there to show for it....RoF is lot better on this point (though in RoF I think the planes loose there wings abit to often and the warping can look unnatural, rather like metal than canvass) Yes I have used headphones before and suffered the same paranoia even though I know no one would be knocking...still if they are sod em...I'm fighting for my life here..
  24. Get some decent headphones and then fly OFF...my god the difference it makes to the intensity and atmosphere of the game...superb...only I get paranoid some one is knocking at the door or calling my name!! I use the Sound Tweaks mod and her prop's mods and Creaghorns lighting mod (All superb and add to the game...if only the planes showed more damage when their hit...like a few bullet holes...oh well maybe in Phase 4)
  25. I was looking through the OFF files and came across "Bloody April" file in the campaign folder...anyone know what this is about? Is it a left over from CFS3? Thanks
