  1. Hi, today I purchased the North Atlantic and tried to extract some of the cat-files, in order to do some painting and reskinning. No luck - neither of the extractors does recognize the cat-files. any hint ? thx sokol
  2. Hi, in some of Fubar's recent videos and screenshots we can see a Kiev carriers which look different from the stock one: they feature names and identification numbers, rescue containers and - best of all - some Kamov Helix helicopters parked on the flight deck. since I try to update my carriers in a similar fashion - albeit without having a Helix available - (see below) I would like to ask whether these modifications are going to be released ? if the answer is "no", I will continue my work, if "yes" I will wait for them :-) thx for your answer Sokol
  3. thx MigBuster the parking lots are right in my data-files. anyhow, aircraft do show up sometimes, sometimes they do not. weird.
  4. Hi, which is the correct order to install the different modules and updates of SF2 ? i purchased SF2NA and took the opportunity to re-download all the modules i did purchase before. next i tried to do a completely new vanilla install, starting with the SF2_combo09_web_setup. fine, but when i try to install the next module i get an error message, irrepsective of which module i try first: any help ? thx sokol
  5. Hi thanks to all. problem solved. i did a mistake when i started the installation with the combo09, which obviously is not necessary any more. happy flying sokol
  6. Hi russo, that was fast, but i did not get the idea (sometimes stupid me). all of the versions i dwonloaded seem to be updated to march 2012 standard (at least their names suggest this). so i started with the combo setup (first file in screenshot above), tried the next - no luck, tried SF2V - no luck either. does the "combo" include all the other modules (except NA) ? am i supposed to start with sf2_setup_Mar2012 ?

Hm, nice stories (although not new). what puzzles me: the author built a Revell SR-71 when he was 10 (so did i at the same time). this could not have been any sooner than the late 60ies. 29 years later he first met the real thing, not earlier than the early 90ies. by then the Blackbirds were retiring. Lybia was bombed in the mid 80ies. outrunning 4,000 missiles without any scratch ? pure fiction. which serious air force commander would waste his missiles in this way ? no scratch ever ? at least one Blackbird was hit over North Vietnam, though not shot down at the spot.flights over Hanoi were suspended for quite a while. no MiG able to catch up ? Swedish air controllers reported that every time a Blackbird left the Baltic sea it was met by a MiG-25, flying 2 km lower and behind the SR-71, perfectly positioned for a kill. strange sokol
  8. Hi, my paratroopers do not jump and sail to earth - they do skydiving (sort of). chute down, trooper up ... any idea how to fix that ? thx sokol
  9. thx KFRGE will try it when i am back home (away from home during the week) cheers sokol
  10. Hi, some screenies, china early forties:
  11. A General's Honor Restored

    agree :-) true enough
  12. A General's Honor Restored

hmmm, no intention to start a flame war, but ... sure, Lavalle was a sort of scapegoat, Nixon, Laird & co. are to blame. anyway: the (north-)vietnamese were defending their country, their independance and their freedom (as did the U.S. in it's own war of independence / revolution. so by any standard all of their actions were defensive by definition, whatever the methods of their defence were - radar, SAM, MiGs ... the U.S. was the aggressor (as were the French, Japanese, British). like it or not. once in a while this should be remembered. sokol
  13. Hi you might also try "brighter", which converts 24bit-bmp's into 8bit with absolutely no visible loss to colours. it has been around for quite a while, mainly used for Il-2 sturmovik. "brighter" is available with a batch-routine, i.e. you can convert entire folders or dozens of files by some simple clicks. i have been using it for virtually any terrains and my favourite airplane-textures. cheers sokol
  14. Hi, many thx to that outstanding add-on. some remarks to the aircraft though: the Flogger was not as bad an aircraft as some U.S.-reports claim. you cannot compare some of it's features with the later flock of F-15,-16,-18 or MiG-29, Su-27, but if seen in comparison with the contemporary Mirage F-1, Viggen etc. it prolly comes out best. it actually accelerates better than an F-16, the use of it's HUD and systems was actually easier than most western systems and the accident-rate - though initially high as with all swing-wing-aircraft - went low. Soviet and East german pilots still value their old mount. during the Namibian war of independance the highly professional South African Mirages resorted to low-level, high speed attacks after some decisive clashes with Cuban Floggers. the Cuban won air-superiority for the rest of the conflict. this sums it up best. cheers sokol
  15. Hi there. i always found the ships missing there characteristic wakes. obviously the ShipMovementEffect should get some update. but: i am unable to locate that file ?! any idea where i can find that thing ? thx sokol
  16. Hi, is it possible to point to ANY cockpit in ANY folder to provide the appropriate workstation for the pilots ? i understand that it is possible to point to one of the default cockpits, but i would like to point to each. the idea is to create a seperate "cockpit-"folder (like decals, pilots etc.) and to concentrate the add-on pits there so that i may use any of them just by changing the reference-line in the aircraft.ini. especially useful for the mass of MiG-fighters. cheers sokol
  17. thx guys. the idea was to leave nothing in the individual aircraft folder. i have tried different ways - to no avail. it works with stock cockpits, it does not work with add ons. cheers sokol
  18. some more Migs, some with Rato (working ! thks to Spillone !) cheers Sokol
  19. Hi, i had to reinstall the operating system and so i changed to windows 7 and directX 10. SF2 runs o.k., but apparently without any clouds, flames, smoke etc.. any idea what to do ? cheers sokol
  20. Hi thanks for replies. for some unknown reason - it works like a charm. see: cheers Sokol
  21. Hi folks i always thought that the stock Mig-21-front gear is too long: the aircraft sits too high in front, the angle relative to the ground is wrong. so i wanted to change that. i increased the "stroke" -parameters in the data.ini. this works well in the SF1 series, but does not work in SF2. so my question: which of the following parameter - mostly: stroke, spring, damping - is responsible for the angle ? [NoseGear] SystemType=LANDING_GEAR Retractable=TRUE DeployTime=5.0 AnimationID=1 DragArea=0.124 HideGearNode=TRUE ModelNodeName=NoseGearStrut InsideNodeName=Nosegear_Well ShockAnimationID=7 ShockStroke=0.36 SpringFactor=1.5 DampingFactor=2.0 WheelNodeName=NoseGearTire RotationAxis=X-AXIS RollingRadius=0.25 CastoringWheel=TRUE CastoringNodeName=NoseGearHydraulics Steerable=TRUE MaxSteeringSpeed=41.15 Locking=FALSE MaxSteeringAngle=45.0 InputName=YAW_CONTROL ControlRate=1.0 HasBrakes=FALSE RollingCoefficient=0.05 MaxDeploySpeed=128.61 MaxLoadFactor=3.0 CompressGearOnRetraction=TRUE any help is very appreciated. thx Sokol
  22. Hi Fubar, ja, angle translates into degrees (at least mostly, some technical experts use percentages, 100% = 90 degrees). thx again, no luck again. tried high positive and negative values (45.0), no visible effect. :-( sokol
  23. Hi thx for your answers. i like the spring-consideration :-) @ Fubar: where do i have to insert the "OnGroundPitchAngle" ? is it meant to be in degree ? tried it in the nose-gear-section without any visible effect. cheers sokol
