  1. nice aircraft - where are those shelters in the background from ? soviet type ? cheers sokol
  2. Hi, came around this today. the skin is actually made by Phamtuan, not howling. might be sueful to change the names accordingly some day :-) cheers sokol
  3. Hi, lacking time to respond to every mythological believe - only this: the sam-2 has a lethal radius of some 50 - 60 m iirc, so no way that a shrapnel can travel several thousands feet. so it must have been a close call. 4.000 + missiles shot at the sr-71 without every hitting one: what a waste of money, all those general were surely shot. proud sr-71s resting in museums: how many left ? what was the attrition rate of these really outstanding aircraft ? one third ? all operational, no doubt. f-105 vs mig's: while the thud did achieve kills against mig-17, it did not stand a chance against the mig-21. not surprisingly, as the mig-21 was a fighter and no truck like the thud. as for the speed: mig's ran down "clean f-105s after they had dropped their bombs", says Marshal Michael (clashes), he should know. sorry, guys. soviet designers knew their job as well as did u.s.-engineers. cheers sokol
  4. Hi folks, Mig-25 vs SR-71: propably the single most disputed question in the community :-) and beaten to death in the net. any way, here are my 5 cents: remember: the "blackbird" had to fly straight and level, more than anything else up there. being a really "hot" airplane it was a perfect target even for IR-missiles. during the late 70ies and the 80ies SR-71 used to fly along the Soviet Baltic coastline. Almost every time the Blackbird left the Baltic a lone MiG-25 took off in the GDR and positioned itself 3 km behind and below the U.S.-spyplane as described by Gepard. Swedish (radar-)onlookers "were impressed by this precision". doing some educated maths this would give the SR-71 crew some 15 seconds to leave their airplane before being hit by 70 kg of R-40 high explosives (in fact, they could not leave it due to the lack of a suitable escape system). the MiG-31 was as fast as the -25 and featured the most advanced weapon-system of it's era. any doubts ? To put a long story short: does anybody think the USSR did waste millions of roubles for just a glimpse or a blip on the radar screen ? btw: at least 1 SR-71 was hit by a Sam-2 over vietnam, though not fatally (remember: it runs almost 1 km per second). overflights were suspended for a while, new defensive item installed, new routes seleczed and the high thread areas avoided. as for the F-105 (vs MiG-21): although allegedly being the "fastest runner on the deck" it simply "was not match" for the MiG-21, which could out-accelerate and out-manoeuvre the Thud. the MiG had the offensive and defensice initative. cheers sokol
  5. Hi, it is an old problem - decals bleed through. is there a solution for this ? thx in advance sokol
  6. Hi thx for the tips. does not work because of mirroring: same part of skin is used for right and left side of fuselage. it looks right on the left side, but not on the right (please ignore "gvardija-sign", this is a decal !): any ideas ? sokol
  7. Hi folks, i seem to be unable to use the weapons editor. i tried to add the AA-9 for the Mig-31: no weapons in game. next i recompiled an old weapondata.ini - one which works and has got the same time and date-stamp as my old weapondata.dat - same result: no more weapons in game. so in essence: if i use the old *.dat, everything works, but if i try do recompile the *.ini (or add new weapons) then there is nothing left. any idea, someone ? thanks in advance
  8. Shaolin, there are a lot around - i prefer the simple yyyymmdd, so 20080818 is quite understandable (for non-USA only ?) cheers
  9. Hi, thanks, that did it !!!!! i was not aware that there are two versions out, which are not compatible. and hell, it is very difficult to find out which one is the newer, given that strange date-format "mmddyy" in their name. thanks againa nd cheers !
  10. Hi, after the release of a formidable set of MiG-15-camos i tried to recreate Korean fights against B-29 - no chance. i was flying at 14.000 meters, the bombers at 10.000 meters and some 10 kilometers away, their escorts at 12.000m. and i could NOT CATCH up - they simply evaded, flying nearly as fast as my jet fighter. any idea ?
  11. Hi, does anyone know how those static aircraft are put into place ? they seem to be connected with the israelME-terrain, since they do not appear in other terrains. what is the trick ? how can i make them appear in custom made missions as well ? and define their resp. type and placing ? thx for any answer sokol
  12. Hi folks, i always get one problem: i place my objects / trees on the tiles, using terrain editor, save, fire the sim - all is fine. when i return to the terrain editor to make some adjustements and call up the tile - every object & all trees have gone, so i have to start all over again. is there a remedy to this ? thx sokol
  13. Hi, i have a question for the terrain-modders. i understand that for each tile there is an ini which describes all the buildings and trees positioned on that specific tile. alas, when i return to that tile in the terrain-editor all information has gone: no more trees or building, i have to start all over again. probably i do something wrong, but i do not know what. any clue ? thx Sokol
  14. Hi folks, yes, this topic has been discussed on various places - but how about making it a sticky ? i own all of the third-wire-series, including WOI since yesterday :-). i like to have the choice to fly every aircraft which is flyable or has been provided as such by the community in whatever combination of aircraft / terrain. so i want to have one big install, which includes the latest flying-models, objects, ai-routines etc. . since the sfp1-manager is out such a big install is easy to handle, because this excellent tool can store aircrafts and terrains in special folders as long as they are not needed. so: which simulation is best suited to be the basis for the BIG ONE ? which steps do you follow ? thx for answers and ideas. cheers phamtuan
  15. Hi, for the first time in my life i created an image of my fresh-install boot-partition. and saved it to a place, were some of my most important data resided. those are lost - instead of 40 gigabytes pictures, music, office-documents i do now have some 4 gigabytes of image on that partition. which ist the best way to get those files back to life (file-types are: doc, xls, mp3, wma, bmp, png, tga, psp, pspimage, zip, zip-exes, rar and some special formats) ? especially those multi-layered, labour-intensive pspimages, which i use as template for the skins of MiG and Sukhoi-aircraft ? there are loads of tools & tips on the net, i need 1st-hand experience :-) thanks sokol
  16. Hi, happ birthday to you -- a Ye-8 would be fine /as would be a Tu-128 Fiddler !) some years ago i did some Lancer-skins. if you like to use them for your package, post your e-mail address. decals have been adjusted ! cheers Sokol
  17. don't know, but if you have enough details on the ground - trees, buildings, even detailed scenery tiles - it gets really speedy. Sokol
  18. Hi, i do not know (yet) whether "my" statics can be destroyed, i'll try next wekend :-). some of them (mig-21mf) have the correct orientation, some not (mig-21 pf and mig-17). could not find out why ?! Sokol
  19. basically you need to convert a flyable a/c to a non-fly-able: removing fuel, surfaces etc., i am sure someone can give a short introduction. i have got one problem: some static models tend to look in a direction they choose, not you. anyway: results look like this: salute sokol
  20. Hi, same ptblem here and for tu-22 too. Sokol
  21. that is the air-to-ground version (obviously from pre-sp4-ages, as i did not update the insignia position to the new standard) cheers Sokol
