  1. 1.28e is now available

There are a number of addons re-packaged for 1.28e 1.28e Addons http://www.users.on.net/pam_biddell/1.28E_Install/128EAddons.htm Jel
  2. Thank you so much

There is need to upgrade to 1.28D if 1.28C works for you. 1.28D is a version of 1.28C which uses 1024x768 selection screens and menu files. It is not an upgrade. By sheer accident it fixed the "screen tearing" problem which occurred with some cards, and the garbled map problem. However, it will not run the old campaigns with 640x480 menu and selection screens without some workarounds. If 1.28d fixes these two problems then d3d windower will do this anyway, and you can use 1.28c with it. However, 1.28E will be a massive upgrade, and we are hoping to release it very soon. Jel

  4. Starting from scratch

Sorry to be pedantic but do you have the CD? I need to know where we are starting from. Jel
  5. Will EAW play on Win 7?

Gee another banjo player! Yes. I have it running in Vista, and when I was trialling the beta and pre-release Win 7 versions I had it running in Win7 both 32 and 64 bit. A couple of things though. It is better run from a copied folder than an installed one. Set your "User Account Control" to off, otherwise when EAW tries to write to its eaw.ini file the default "User Account Control" will not let it, so it spits the dummy and CTDs. There's quite a lot of info in the SimHQ EAW forum. Jel

  7. I have made a document named "OAW128.rtf" which contains information regarding the setting up of the OAW128 filemanager for EAW, and a number of links to OAW128 ready installations of different versions of the EAW exe (1.28C and 1.28D), OAW128 itself, and campaigns such as DAW, Malta, RAW, SAW,and SPAW. The document will be updated as more EAW1.28C/OAW128 material is uploaded. OAW128.rtf Jel

  9. As I also asked in my reply to your post at SimHQ, Sky High, are you using JIM because of screen tearing? Jel
  10. Just confirming that the updated exe allows me to use my Saitek rudder pedals and Logitech force feedback 3D joystick together The force feedback option is not available (in EAW configuration) if I have my non-force feedback sidewinder plugged in, which is exactly as it should be. Jel
  11. We are working on it. On the strength of getting it working I bought some Saitek Pro Flight rudder pedals two days ago. The upshot was that the exe no longer recognised the throttle on either my Sidewinder of Logitech joysticks, and remained "greyed out" on the config screen. Discussing this with Ralf flying on GameRanger tonight he has produced an exe where even though the throttle detection may not happen it can be selected. As a result my joysticks work in conjunction with the rudder pedals. One problem remains- it is not detecting Force Feedback, and although we have made it selectable, the Logitech JS is not producing any FF effects. We will keep you posted. :) Jel
  12. A few of us have already been flying 1.28C online earlier today via GameRanger, and it was great fun. For me it as great to be playing EAW again instead of developing exes or packaging scenarios for 1.28C. So if you have got 1.28C installed then install GameRanger if you need to, then log in and check for 1.28C games running. It's almost 11 pm here in Adelaide and USA Central time is 6.30 am, so my late mornings and early afternoons would nicely overlap USA evenings. The only problem with GR is that it does not run on anything before XP, but conversely it make access to online flying really simple. Do not worry about your flying skills, most of our games are co-operative and not adversarial. Jel

  14. EAW 1.28C release

Mark please try it and see what happens. What I can tell you is this 1. The 1.28C should not give the 7217 error with XP (it never does with Vista or Win 7). 2. However, you may get torn screens, if you do not then there is no problem. 3. If you do get torn screens then there are two possibilities. The first is JIM which is a utility which lets you select the mission parameters for a single mission. They are saved in a file which, if present, the 1.28C exe will read if you press Ctrl-Q for an instant mission, and then launch it with your settings. The second is the yet to be finished 1024 x 768 version of 1.28C. Crashin' Jack was experimenting with 2D cockpits and accidentally found that using 1024 x 768 selection screens fixed the garbled map problem. I took a punt that it might also fix the screen tearing problem. The result is that on some PCs it did, and on others it did not. So try 1.28C and report back re the screen tearing please. If need be I can give you a link to JIM, and more information. Cheers Jel
  15. File Name: EAW 1.28C Installer File Submitter: Jel File Submitted: 04 Nov 2009 File Category: EAW - Europen Air War The file is a 7-zip self installer about 55MB The readme covering the installation is here: http://www.users.on.net/pam_biddell/EAW1.28C_Readme.htm ReadMes from the 1.28, 1.28a and 1.28b upgrades are included in the installer as they contain useful information regarding the features of this series. 16. EAW 1.28C release

To exit the game you can use "Esc" a couple of times to get back to the mainscreen. When you are there "Esc" will take you out of the game. Alternatively "Alt-Q" will give you the option to exit immediately with a "Y" response to the "Yes/No" question. Jel
  17. EAW 1.28C release

Good to see you again Gepard. We will look into some of the issues you have raised. Jel
  18. EAW 1.28C release

Thanks Erik. I have done that. The installer I have posted should have the correct CDFs to display the artificial horizon and other cockpit instruments properly. We just had a good session online tonight, a B17 intercept in 109Gs and 190As. I had to take a phone call in the middle of the battle, so I set my wing leveller on and when I came back my AIs had just about cleaned up, so all I did was to take out some P51B escorts who were still hanging around. Jel
  19. EAW 1.28C release

I can only guess which ones. The 7217 error should not occur, but torn screens may still be a problem. If garbled maps occur they should be fixable with the regedit fix in XP. A torn screen victim can use the latest JIM with 1.28C. This is an external utility which sets up single mission parameters, and save them in a file. The 1.28C exe is programmed to look for this file if Ctrl-Q is typed (Instant Mission). This can be typed even with a garbled screen. If the file exists then the parameters are read, and single mission is launched. 20. There's mine http://www.users.on.net/pam_biddell/FONTS.CDF Jel
  21. Not such a wild guess! I renamed "fonts.cdf" as "fonts.cdfx", copied "flt.cdf" and renamed the copy as "fonts.cdf". Launched EAW and got the 803. Do you have another copy of your "fonts.cdf" somewhere? Jel
  22. The EAW source code has this line: ERR_FONT_LOAD_NOFILE 803 I have searched the EAW source code for references to ERR_FONT_LOAD_NOFILE and 803 and there is no sign of this error message being generated by EAW. My only (wild) guess is that you have a corrupted "fonts.cdf" file, and that XP is generating this error. Jel
  23. Glide wrappers

Mike- check out this thread, particularly the posts regarding the new JIM: http://simhq.com/forum/ubbthreads.php/topics/2883544/OAW128V13_ready_for_1_28C.html#Post2883544 Tony
  24. Glide wrappers

Mike- try this http://www.users.on.net/pam_biddell/1024.exe It is a 7-zip self extractor. A 1.28C test with 1024x768 code and support files. You may still get screen tearing, it may be reduced, or you may be lucky. Let us know anyway, because we need to know systems it works on and systems that it does not. There is some theory that the degree of screen tearing is affected by the vertical sync settings. Unless I have it wrong the recommendation is to turn it off if that is possible on your card. Jel
  25. With users having updated to newer systems and graphics cards many have fallen foul of the dreaded 7217 error and have given up on EAW. Facts. The 7217 error message is EAW generated. It is not a windows or operating system error. It only applies to selection menu screens which are in a Microprose compressed format. It occurs particularly with nVidia cards and drivers which no longer support 8 bit in 640 x 480 screen resolution. The eaw exe checks to see if the card and driver can support 8 bit in 640 x 480 screen resolution, and if not is programmed to exit with the 7217 error message. It happens in XP and earlier operating systems. I have my HDDs in caddies. When I had my last nVidia card I got the 7217 error when my XP HDD was loaded. I did not get it when my Vista 32 bit, or Windows 7 (32 or 64) HDDs were operating, so somehow these operating systems fix the problem. It does not happen with Radeon cards. Other solutions: The eaw 1.28b exe has a 7217 fix. The code has been changed to trick the exe into believing thet 8 bit is supported. This means that EAW will run on nVidia series 6 cards such as my old 6600 GT. Although the 7217 error is circumvented, later series of nVidia cards give "screen tearing" in XP, which makes selection impossible. Crashin' Jack found by accident that modifying the exe to work with 1024x708 screens fixed the garbled target/home base selection map problem. Further tests show that it also solves the screen tearing problem an a number of cards, but unfortunately not all of them. We are blissfully unaware of how or why this change fixes the problem, because no changes in code have been made, just changes of values of 640 to 1024 and 480 to 768. Clearly this is a graphic card/driver issue. We will be releasing a modified 1.28C with a number of 1024x768 menus and screens when 1.28C is released officially in the next couple of weeks. Jel
