  1. You Bet. Any F-4 Squadron in the fray would equal more fun to all. Don't Forget The Gulfs /Weasel Phantoms. An F-4G /F-4E Hunter Killer package would be slick. CL
  2. About Damn Time!

Hopefully the federal prosecuter that created this tragedy will be sued down to a grovelling life. Any word on the Deputy Sheriffs that where Jailed by the same piece of ............. CL
  3. The Person Below Me

Ahh well? True I have more take offs then landings. On alot of jumps we'd swim to a boat or the the beach. The person below me thinks it must be a crime to cook clams and oysters before eating them but hates sushi  CL
  4. Remembering Dr. King

I will judge a man in a pink t-shirt. And judge a womens intentions in nothing but a T-shirt. CL
  5. Remembering Dr. King

His words more or less: I have a dream, that a man will not be judged by the color of his skin but the nature of his charactor (spelling?!). I believe this is what this day is about. My perception is that we practice this every day here. CL
  6. The Midway had a pretty lean and mean battle group. 1 maybe 2 fast frigates and one Spruance class destroyer, the Oldendorf. Nothing to slow us down. The fast attack oilers could do more knots then the carrier could. I worked with the Oly. Sometimes I thought the Oly was the high value unit of the group. In the cold war the IO was relatively wide open. The Med would be a meat grinder for all ships if the balloon went up. A handfull of Tango, and Foxtrot boats could pretty much pave the bottom of the Med with steel. The Soviets had way more subs then those 2 types there. CL
  7. Navy skipper's bikini gaffe

I heard somewhere that people who are called cynical have a more elevated sense of awareness then other people. Bikinis or not, a hop in a Collins boat would be bitchin. CL
  8. Navy skipper's bikini gaffe

And this is another thing I DON'T GET. Australia has always been big in the same cultural ideals that are supportive of a military culture. Both by participating and a supportive role. I hope I didn't sound like I wanted to shred Aussies here. If I want to mess with Y'all. I'd ask for a rugby game. Well Doggies! That would be swell for fun also. It would be way bitchin if all involved gets a splendid pep talk and comes out of this mess wiser and smarter. Unfortunatly anything the skipper says to a journalist, you or I post here or any where goes straight to the whole world for thier interpretation or ammo for thier movement. CL
  9. N Korea issues warning to Seoul

"but having been an unintended target of them once, I don't dismiss those nut-cases completely." Definatly my least favorite country to deal with. 1985 Dawn Patrol in international waters a bit too close to NK in an SH-3H armed with a Cannon AE1. pilot: Hey Chuck you see it? aft: Affirm. Soviet T-58 Minesweeper. pilot: Cool. aft: Negatrons Lt they're not flying the soviet ensiegn. pilot: Whats that mean? aft: You tell me. pilot: ??? aft: THEY ARE PULLING THE COVERS OFF THIER GUNS RIGHT NOW! CL

I totaly forgot to mention HONOR. Honor to what your job in the Navy is. Honor to your mates in the same shop, division, squadron or ship. One can blow it all with a journalist. Officers of the US military get it. Typhoid, Fast Cargo, and Jug, UK guys and many others on this site. It makes the difference between a non com / petty officer looking at the ground shuffling his feet mumbling obcenities or replying with a hardy aye aye after recieving a direction. Hot subject right now for me. I'm dealing with a "manager" who doesn't manage but reacts, who should be first in line for vocal cord removal. No Discretion. Honor? CL
  11. Negev? A secret base in central Nevada perhaps? CL
  12. Ricardo Montalban dies at 88

Ricardo Montalban was the indian chief in the movie How the West Was Won. I believe he won an award for that role. Patrick McGoohan from the Prisoner gone too! I just stoped wearing my badge 2 years ago. This is as bad or worse then when we lost Ceaser Romero or Jack Lord. Balls! It's always more then one. CL
  13. Good Question! The R3350 class of the cyclone produced anywhere from 2200 to 3700 HP. CL
  14. Ah Sugar! I should have the answer to this pinned on my sleeve. We were on the Coral Sea, same class carrier. We "sailed" hell bent to leather from Singapore to the Suez Canal. We only diverted to cross the equator so all sailors aboard could share the secrets of the deep with king neptune and all that stuff. It was still serious cold war sailing tho. Did the boat go in a straight line? No. The skipper would take the boat towards really snotty weather so the Bears couldn't find us. We would also drag 3 screws (1 Prop turning) so subs would think we were a merchant. Back then we operated as if we where an RCH away from WW3 starting. I'll have to say 1 1/2 weeks. I believe the ship would have a head start tho. Captains perogitive, planned deployment and the pre positioning style strategery that occured then. No Bears found us. It sounds like Killer might have more sea time then me here. CL
  15. I think I'm on my 3rd or 4th 2nd opinion. In your words, don't stop now and stay on track Utramax.
  16. Carrier air always traveled or / and maintained a certain strength. It was Ronald Reagans' Navy back then. We were trying to fight a 4 sea war with a 3 sea navy. Also the Midway / CAG-5 was always out numbered. This is what I propose: The carrier: 2 F-4S Squadrons, VF-151, and VF-161. No Cag wants to not have his regular VF squadrons. A-7Es, Need just one Midway / Cag-5 Squadron. The other went back to NAS Lemore to transition to F-18s. So a Marine Corps F-4 squadron fills in the gap. The CAG will be bragging he has 3 F-4 squadrons on his boat. 1 A-6 Squadron. 1 EA-6B Squadron. From the Late 70s to my exit to silly villain life in the mid 80s, and even beyond, there where really no surprises internationally for the US Navy. If something happened we allready had a carrier there. and of course outnumbered. Our rotation schedule didn't mean sierra. If Dhimar was a swell enough ally for Navy Air support, there will also be Marine F-4s deployed and flying off the beach in Dhimar either before or very close after hostilities start. Those in Ronald Reagans Air Force Probably will say something similar. I allways wondered what would happen to all those West Geman F-4FS at George and Hollomen if the world would go to total sierra. If they went into the fray, Who would be flying them for whom. CL Edit: I see. Was typing this out while the last 2 posts came up. Hey I gave you some ammo for 2 navy and 2 marine F-4 squadrons. Also if the Midway goes into flex deck ops they will be launching and recovering AC slower.
  17. Navy skipper's bikini gaffe

My perception of what military officers should be about is discretion, leadership, discretion, and command. Yah I know I said discretion twice. This skipper will probably be the president of the Going Down Club. CL
  18. Red Pilot

Yup more, more. I do like the Navy T-shirt under the zoom bag. CL
  19. Aloha

For your 199th TFS amusement:  CL
  20. Perhaps 199th TFS should be invited too. I bet there is enough room for ANG F-4Cs in Dhimar's time of need. CL
  21. N Korea issues warning to Seoul

Economic geniousness. 1. Start war. 2. Lose war. 3. Surrender unconditionally 4. Conquering nation rebuilds economy. Perhaps I've watched to many Peter Sellers movies. but this has worked for some countries. CL
  22. Good Deal Ultra, KB, and SD! I'd like to beat this subject up more but I'm going to log off and go back 25 years and get some F-4S stick time. CL
  23. Ouch! I guess the Mirage factory A-7Es are out too. Or any 3rd party planes. I have had less success tackeling simpler things. no joy=true bummer=true  CL Edit: Good to see HS-14 is giving you enough time for hobbies SD.
  24. Ah Sugar, No Joy There. All I can think of now is find a VA, VMFA, or what Squadron on the list that was decommissioned in the mid 80s and have them Kfir up on the beech as an aggressor force as a what if. Last resort would be A-4Ms. I still think the squadron list is the egg to crack. As we've seen before someone always wants to play thier plane and squadron on a campaign and posts fiercly about it. CL
  25. Too bad about the Kfirs. Maybe a Marine A-4M Squadron can get that duty instead. They should be on the squadron list. I was going to suggest A-4Es and TA-A4J With VC-5. No squadron specific skins I can find. There is the low viz sea grey scheme tho in Gerwins A-4 skin pac that VC-5 Used in the 80s. There might be another VC squadron from the atlantic side that is skinned. You might be able to add VF-43 to your squadron list. I remember seeing something like that when loading SoulFreak's Hi ANG F-4c skin. It sounds like it should be a way cool campaign. Looking forward to it. CL
