Got two 111s, but the gear was damaged. Put her down in a field a short distance from the base. -
The terrain "invisable wall" question
Heck replied to quack74's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - Mods & Skinning Discussion
If I remember correctly, Wrench said TK locked this down again, so you can't adjust it. -
If they don't, they crap in each others faces, and no one wants to be tail end charlie.

Keep a positive attitude, Falcon. Just as you are. All our thoughts are with you. Stay positive, and you will beat this.

Need help installing mods (NATO) I am new to mods
Heck replied to kory's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - Mods & Skinning Discussion
Are you using SF2? The mod folders should go into your saved games folder, where ever that might reside on your system. Can you let us know what windows operating system you're using? It would help a lot. -

Amariani, could you put together a tutorial on how you do panel lines? You do such fantastic work. Nevermind. Found one. Your skins are works of art. -

Thanks, Wrench. Coming from you, that means a lot. Okay, I'm stupid. What terrain is that? Obligatory screenshot: Coming soon to a desert near you. Only shot until it's done. -

Anyone working on a Checkertail P-40 skin?
Heck replied to Heck's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - Mods & Skinning Discussion
Raven, you've done amazing work on this series of aircraft. Thank you. When it comes to colors, I tend to go to the known color sites, like Simmers Paint Shop, grab their chips, and then alter them to suit my taste, knowing that weathering layers will change their appearance even further. As Wrench pointed out in another thread, Luftwaffe Gelb does better American ID yellow serials than the colors from color chips. I don't blame you for having nightmares about templates. People of the this modern digital world have forgotten how much even old color photographs taken on film can lie. A lot had to do with where the sun was in relation to the photographer combined with his position to the subject, and the materials underneath the paint. A photographer walking from the nose to the tail of an aircraft in the same shoot could alter the colors, because of his change in position, and even the age of the photographer's film, or whether it was a professional or amateur image could be an issue in the days of chemical film. Kodachrome film wasn't invented until 1935, was expensive, and required a lot of light to get a good image. The more you look at these old photographs, the more you realize that what you're looking at is not a true image, so I'll always prefer to work from color chips, because at least those were recorded on paper, like those you provided to me. Now it's time to start that research, which can be enlightening, maddening, and fun, all at the same time. -
Anyone working on a Checkertail P-40 skin?
Heck replied to Heck's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - Mods & Skinning Discussion
There is nothing to do with this but agree. You nailed it, SupGen. The Wildcat and the 40 are very unappreciated combat aircraft by many people. They were great aircraft. Oh yeah! If you ever get around to doing it, you'll have almost the whole stable represented, because I can use your K-15 to simulate and early P-40N1. I love Duct tape. You have brought this family of aircraft to life, Raven. Thank you. -

I'm not big on wishlist things, but if you ever do an early K with the tail fillet... Ignore me... Sorry.... -

Heck replied to Heck's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - Mods & Skinning Discussion
Thanks, guys. I'll get started. Raven, I know what you mean about research, but your P-40s have become my hobby. I bookmarked that site. Thanks. I have loved this aircraft since I was a kid. Your models are so cool that I feel like a kid again. Wilches, thanks for the tip, and the compliment. I'll be doing some research, looking at not only colors, but the F and L models. Going to have to do all new layers on the template, not to mention finding decals and pictures to work from. Raven, no more research tips for idiot skinners. We're all waiting for that P-40B! Your models are awesome! P-40s rule, despite their alleged mediocrity! -

File Name: SF2 Burma Banshees File Submitter: Heck File Submitted: 18 November 2013 File Category: P-40 80th Fighter Group The Burma Banshees This is a semi-historical skin of the 89th Fighter Squadron of the 80th Fighter Group for Raven's P-40N20-CU. It is semi-historical because I have used any skull I could find to create these, and some are from the 88th and 90th squadrons of the 80th FG. This doesn't make the skin totally inaccurate, because there were similarities between the skulls for all three P-40 squadrons of the group (the 459th flew P-38s). Some skulls I've created are alterations of skulls I've found, but again this isn't totally inaccurate, because in photos found in the Philip Adair collection you'll see two P-40s sitting side by side with almost identical skulls. All the skulls here were painted by me, using decals or photos as a guide, altering the proportions where necessary to account for the fact they were on a curved surface. Some skulls don't cover the same area of the nose they did in real life, because of bending and stretching problems caused by the use of decals. Where I could find photographic evidence of a skull/aircraft number/serial number combination, I've used it, the rest have generic serials derived from the Joe Baugher site. I've included the following named aircraft. Some have accurate skull/number combos, if I could find complete information, some are best guesses: Lulu Belle II The Rough Cobb Joe Aztec Joanne Butter Bean II Miss Frances III No matter what their flaws, I think they make a cool appearance in game. I know we don't have an updated CBI for them to operate in, but perhaps some day we will. I created them because they were one of the most unusual P-40 groups out there in a world that seemed dominated by shark mouths. I hope you enjoy them. Simply unzip the enclosed .rar to a location on your computer and open the readme for complete installation instructions. Designed for a full five merged installation of SF2. You'll have to make your own alterations for SF1, and I cannot guarantee they'll work. I've used Raven's wonderful template to create these. I've added my own weathering and dirt layers, so any flaws are solely my own. I strongly recommend that you download and install Wrench's Southwest Pacific P-40N pack located here first: http://combatace.com/files/file/14278-sf2-ww2-pto-p-40n-usaaf-swpa-skinpak/ It has some goodies in it that you'll want to have. This skin is Freeware. It is not to be used in any Payware project, or file. Credits: Raven, for his P-40N and templates. Wrench for his information and tips. Jaypack44 for his USAAF insignia, found at Simmers Paint Shop. The tutorials in the Knowledge Base here, especially Wrench's tutorial on decal creation. Simmers Paint Shop for their weathering tutorials and color swatches. Numerous web pages for pictures and information, too numerous to mention, but http://www.burmabanshees.com/ is a must for information, and links to photo collections. All the members of CombatAce who gave a like to a screenshot, or a comment in a thread. I don't think people realize how important the encouragement of this wonderful community can be through the use of those simple measures. For Lt. John Mateulevicz, who died before my time, but whose gaze from an old photo I could not forget. RIP Click here to download this file
