  1. Thank you, Wolf! Your work has been missed. Thank you for offering it again.
  2. Nieuport 24

Guys, I know this is probably a stupid observation, since I don't know that much about the 3d modelling of these planes, etc, but the Vickers/Lewis combo works quite well for the SE5a stock plane. Is there any way to mimic its setup in the data ini of a Nieuport? Would that work? Is it the two gun groups that allow this to work? The SE5a uses two gun groups: [internalGun1] SystemType=FIXED_GUN GunTypeName=303CAL_VICKERS_MK1 InputName=FIRE_PRIMARY_GUN GunGroup=1<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<< here? MuzzlePosition=-0.16,0.27,0.49 LightPosition=-0.16,0.36,0.50 AimAngles=0.0,5.0,0.0 MaxAmmo=400 EjectShells=TRUE EjectPosition=0.0,-0.17,-0.49 EjectVelocity=0.0,0.0,-1.0 MinExtentPosition= MaxExtentPosition= GunFireAnimationID=7 [internalGun2] SystemType=FIXED_GUN GunTypeName=303CAL_LEWIS_MK2 InputName=FIRE_PRIMARY_GUN GunGroup=2<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<< and here? This is a chart of what I meant, just for clarity. N24 (1 Vickers, French), using what you call the N24bis airframe N24 (1 Lewis, upper wing, British), using N24bis airframe N24 (1 Vickers, 1 Lewis, French or British), using N24bis airframe N24bis (1 Vickers, French) using N24bis airframe, uprated engine stats N24bis (1 Lewis, upper wing, British) using N24bis airframe, uprated engine stats N24bis (1 Vickers, 1 Lewis, French or British), using N24bis airframe uprated engine stats N27 (1 Vickers, French) using what you have as N24 airframe, uprated engine N27 (1 Lewis, upper wing, British) using what you have as N24 airframe, uprated engine N27 (1 Vickers, 1 Lewis, French or British) using what you have as N24 airframe, uprated engine For historical accuracy, I'd stay away from the two Vickers version, from what I've read, it was a rarity. The most common two gun versions were the Vickers/Lewis combination. I know this would lead to a lot of modelling work to create, but your models, and Tex's FM work are just superb, and I think you're both on the verge of creating a detailed view of this very muddled period of Nieuport design, which is important to the game, because the most commonly encountered Allied fighter type up until December of 1917 was a Nieuport sesquiplane of some type; 17, 24, 24bis, or 27, and they were used well into the spring of 1918 by both the French and British services, when the Spad 13 series, and the SE5a, encountered serious engine problems. No matter what you do with this, EmID, my sincere thanks to both you, and Tex, for your tremendous contributions. I love this series of airplanes, and you've brought them to life. We all owe you a great debt. Wonderful work.
  4. Nieuport 24

From what I've read, EmID, the Nieuports of this series usually flew with only one gun. Oddly, a single Vickers on French versions, and a single Lewis on the upper wing on British versions, exactly the opposite of what you'd expect. I think 90% of this series of aircraft flew with only one gun, twin guns being very rare, with twin Vickers being one of the rarest versions, only the twin Lewis on the upper wing being more rare. If they had two guns, it was usually a Vickers/Lewis combination. The version you've posted without the comma tail is actually a perfect Nieuport 27, very common in the RFC, if you give it one Lewis gun. If you produce two more versions of each of these, one version with a single Lewis on the upper wing (British), and a single Vickers on the cowling (French), you will have covered all the different common versions of these airplanes, from 24, to 24bis, and 27. Most flew with only one gun, because, with less than 130 horsepower, most pilots considered them to be underpowered with two guns aboard, so they preferred the better performance to the second gun. This is from what I've read, and seems to be backed up by most of the photographic evidence out there. Hope this helps.

My condolences to you and your family on your tragic loss. Thoughts and prayers remain with you...
  6. prayers

Mine and my family's thoughts and prayers are with you and your brother.
  7. I think you're on the right track here, Viper. You could copy and paste the avionics.dll's from one of the other sims into the WW1 flight folder. They won't overwrite the one that's there, because they all have different names. It would be worth a try, anyway. You could always delete them again if they cause problems.
  8. Nieuport 28

Tex, what value did you change in the data.ini to get rid of the pull up? A number of other aircraft in the game do it, and I wanted to change it. Thanks. Heck
  9. There's a line in the targets.ini that denotes whether a target area is Friendly, or Enemy. Find that target area where the Hermes and her escorts are and change it from Enemy to Friendly. I haven't downloaded this mod, but I'm betting that that's the issue your having. The targets.ini should be in the Falklands subfolder of the terrain folder. Hope this helps.
  10. Nieuport 28

Emil, what beautiful work! Been waiting to see how this one developed. I am so glad that talented people like yourself are working on this sim. And a tip of the wing to Tex for his flight modelling. The spinning engine issue requires just a one line modification in the N28_data.ini. If you go to the engine section and change this line: SpinnerNodeName=Prop Axle to this: SpinnerNodeName=EngineZ then your engine spins. Hope this helps you. Again, it is a beautiful machine. I can see why some American pilots complained bitterly about having to abandon this wonderful aircraft in favor of Spads.

This version includes a number of changes, which are explained in the readme. With these modifications, it works on my system, and I have no problem with stats. I can't guarantee you'll have the same results, as the stats problem seems to be very system dependent, and mission time seems to have an affect also. I'm reposting this because it works for me, and it might work for you. It adds a bit to immersion, so if you can get it to work, I think it's worth it. Complete installation instructions are contained in the readme. My thanks to Kesslebrut, and Geo, for the use of their ground objects. If you tinker with this, and wish to post a modified version, feel free, just don't mod the ground objects without the specific permission of the original authors. When Geo finishes his superb new German 77mm gun, and his new 75, I will post a types and targets ini update to take advantage of them. From the screenshot he posted at ThirdWire, they should be fantastic! As always, you use these files at your own risk. I hope they work for you as well as they worked for me. Heck
  12. There's some sort of problem with the Stats screen losing stats when using my Active Battlefield Mod post patch. My apologies. Not sure what the problem is. Trying to track it down, but it will take some time. Only two files change in the mod; the types.ini, and the targets.ini, so if you remove these two files from the Verdun terrain folder, it will end your stats problem, but you'll lose the mod. If anyone figures out the fix before me, please post it. I don't think the problem has anything to do with the added units, so it's got to be in one of these two files, and, according to the patch readme only the WWIVERDUN_TYPES.INI was replaced in the patch.
  13. A little ps to the moderators of the forum. Under my name to the left it has a line called "warn" etc. What does this line mean? Just curious, as I haven't seen it before.
  14. Sorry I haven't responded to this thread sooner, but I missed the change of location with the revamp to CombatAce. Call me slow. The reason you can't find the mod is because I pulled it down after the problem appeared. I didn't want people blaming TK's new patch for problems that were being caused by my mod. Hopefully, in a few days, by Weds anyway, you'll see a new version posted, once I'm confident through testing that most people will be able to use it without creating problems for themselves. It will be changed slightly (see my post at Thirdwire) in hopes that it will work better.
  15. Computer freeze

Hi, Gepard. I've had this happen a couple of times in the past. Sorry to say that the only cure for me was to uninstall, do a clean install, and patch again. If this happened after patching, I'd download the patch again, you might have a corrupted file.
  16. Bit of work on an Eindecker

In the data.ini, in the rudder section, change ReverseInput=FALSE to ReverseInput=TRUE. It fixes this problem. Late for work. Gotta run!
  17. A little change to what I said when I posted the mod. My thanks to JSF_Addie for pointing out to me that TK often adds new target areas to a sim when he patches it. So whenever a new patch comes out, I will post an updated version of my Active Battlefield mod, so players can use it without losing anything that TK included in a new patch. One of the great things about this community is that more experienced members share their knowledge with people new to modding, like myself. Nice to know the old hands are watching out for the newbies. Heck
  18. File Name: Active Battlefield Mod for First Eagles File Submitter: Heck File Submitted: 1 Jan 2007 File Category: SF Maps/Terrain Mods This mod adds Artillery, Static Infantry, and AA Machine gun sections as targets along the front in First Eagles. You can use the A-Team's AA gunners if you can get them. If not, I've included a version of the infantry to use. My thanks to Kesselbrut, and Geo, for allowing the use of their WW2 infantry, and WW2 37mm gun, respectively. The readme contains installation instructions, and notes. General Notes: Use of this mod may cause a hit to frame rates on slower computers, so use with caution. I don't know what impact, if any, it may have on campaign games, except that it will give you a busy battlefield. It certainly makes sightseeing tours more interesting. I have a middle of the road system, with a shared video chip, and noticed some slight reduction in frame rates at low altitude. Download at your own risk. I'm not planning to update this, so feel free to mod it to your hearts content. Just give Kesselbrut and Geo credit for their work, and if you find the need to modify the infantry, or artillery, ask their permission first. As far as the targets.ini, and types.ini go, have a field day. Hope you enjoy, Heck Click here to download this file
  19. I respected TK and his work before, but now that I know more about him, I respect him even more. I'll be buying everything and anything he produces, just to keep him doing it if nothing else. Continued success, TK.
  20. File Name: Heck Mitchell's WW1 Poor Bloody Infantry Mod File Submitter: Heck File Submitted: 8 Dec 2006 File Category: SF Object Mods I've gotten permission from Kesselbrut to post a version of his WW2 infantry for use in First Eagles. Here's the laundry list of odd things: 1. They're WW2 lods, so one man in each squad has a bazooka that fires as a rifle. 2. All squads, French, British, German, and American, have lods that show a tripod mounted Browning type 30 cal machine gun, although each different nationality is armed with a machine gun from the gun data ini: French, Hotchkiss; Germans, Maxims; British, Vickers; and Americans, Colt-Brownings. 3. I had to increase the rifleman's rate of fire to 30 rpm just to get the little peckerwoods to fire at all. 4. I changed the French uniform color to as close to Horizon Blue as my color blind eyes would let me, but now the Frenchman are a little pasty, and seem to have a mild sunburn. I am not a graphic artist. 5. Although I've changed the data ini weapons and detection systems to say AIR_AND_GROUND, the little jerks still just fire at each other, and I don't know why, although it might be that because of the range at which they start they are already engaged with opposing forces. This mod will give you infantry squads blazing away at each other in single missions (Army Co-operation), especially if you change the data inis of your tanks to RARE, and VERY_RARE, availabilities. And, like me, you might enjoy running the little buggers down with your prop and landing gear. Just put the folders into your ground object folder and the GUNDATA.INI into your object folder and it will work. Hopefully someone will make some real WW1 infantry. Click here to download this file

How rude. It turns out those times I thought they were firing at me, they were just firing at each other, but I was so low I got in their way. "'Scuse the crap out of me for intruding on your private little war!" Purists, please stay away from this mod, it will disturb you, because there's so much wrong with it. For all the rest, this will give you infantry squads blazing away at each other, especially if you change the data inis of your tanks to RARE, and VERY_RARE, availabilities. And, like me, you might enjoy running the little buggers down with your prop and landing gear. Please do not blame Kesselbrut for any of this, he just created the originals. I'm hoping he'll create us some real WW1 infantry. Click here to download this file
