Newbee trying to create Korean War. help needed
Heck replied to waterloo's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - General Discussion
Is this the alternate skin folders? If it is, you place them into the individual aircraft folders, and overwrite what's there, if I remember correctly. The cockpit folders would go into the individual aircraft folders also. If I remember the mod installation correctly, these are just alternative skins using the old template. So, if you're okay with the mod out of the box, you don't need to do anything with them. Someone correct me if my old, doddering mind is wrong about any of this. -
Never got the chance, Fubar. I did visit the Massachusetts in Fall River; most cool. Got to go into a Gato boat, and destroyer built near the end of WW2. Here in Albany, NY, we have the USS Slater, a destroyer escort. She's cramped, but there always seemed to be headroom, so Texas is a view of a completely different time.

One interesting thing about the New York and Texas: the US Navy purposely reverted to Triple Expansion Engines in this class, because they weren't happy with US turbine manufacturer's product quality. It worked, because every class after that had turbines. I always wished the New York was a monument in my home state, rather than at the bottom of the Pacific.

Which is your favorite terrain ?

Wrench's Korea terrain. One of my favorite time periods brought to life by the modding masters here. My absolute favorite SF2 mod of all time. Thanks to all who made it happen. -

A stupid question for Korean War buffs

The four black lines painted under the tails of some Sabres that flew in Korea, what were they for? I have the suspicion that they marked placement points for the dolly that held the tail during engine replacement, but that's just my guess. No specific reason, just wanted to know if I was right. Some Sabres have them in photos, and some don't. -

Thanks. luk1978. This is why I love this site. Access to so much little known information here, on topics we all love. -

My bad, Wrench. I wasn't clear in my original post what I was talking about. See the picture below, where I stopped being lazy and marked the stripes I was talking about. Sorry. I know, I'm a lazy dufuss. -
Strike Fighters 2 Screenshots

All dressed up for the Korean War. Some minor tweeks to the beautiful Sabre Template from Ravenclaw, modified and supplied by Wrench. And later in the war... -
... but every time I see Kim Jong Un, I expect him to break out into this. Sorry for the noise pollution.

I'm pretty certain that I've seen friendlies collide in FE2. I remember telling myself, "There goes all my help. Idiots."

Posted this on my blog If so many people’s lives weren’t at stake, the recent standoff between “Fatboy Korea,” whatever his name is, and “Golf and Cake” POTUS, would be pretty funny. First, we had Jong-un’s failure to launch, an issue I’m pretty sure crops up often in his life. I felt his pain. You’re almost there, about to prove to everyone how big and bad you are, and then… … that embarrassing moment when things just don’t work, and everyone nervously giggles and assures you that it’s okay, you’ll do it right next time. Second, we had the Donald and his big Armada. What is it with size and this guy? I have to admit that a carrier air group packs a lot of firepower, and our naval personnel are top notch at what they do, but Armada? We haven’t used that word since we studied the Spanish Armada in Junior High School. And what “Big Boy” failed to mention was that the Carl Vinson and its escorts are 3000 nautical miles from Korea on a war games in conjunction with the Australian Navy, another first rate naval presence in the Pacific. What was the intent here? To be able to jump up in the oval office and yell “Psyche!” And what about “Chub Boy Slim,” what does he really intend to do with a Nuke? Fondle it? If he ever used it (and from the missile tests, I’d hate to be the scientists trying to build him one: incineration anyone?) all the nuclear nations of the world would line up to nuke his ass, like the famous scene from the movie Airplane, when the nun goes crazy. So what we have here is two basically impotent nerds threatening each other and using us as pawns in the confrontation. Lame.

Looking great, Geezer! I had to do a vanilla install and then retrieve my backups to get the sim going again. It amazes me how much of the sim's total content comes from the modders here. An amazing group of people.

I know I'm late to the parade here, but this is one of my favorite movies of all time. You've made me drag out my dvd and watch it again, Geezer. Thanks.

Well. Armed with a new solid state hard drive and a clean install of Windex 10, my local computer guys got the machine working again, so I thought I'd stop back and restart the old hobby. Baby steps though, because this HD is smaller than the last, so I'll concentrate on my favorite eras, because modding Strike Fighters/First Eagles can be a full blown addiction, as you all well know. Not minding Windex 10 too much, and I know FE2 works, so it's good to be back.

I very much like the way you did this, Skyviper. The music seems generic for this type of video, but I like the way your video moves, and the presentation of the message was very well done. On the whole, it has exactly the effect you intended. Well done.

80th Fighter Group The Burma Banshees This is a semi-historical skin of the 89th Fighter Squadron of the 80th Fighter Group for Raven's P-40N20-CU. It is semi-historical because I have used any skull I could find to create these, and some are from the 88th and 90th squadrons of the 80th FG. This doesn't make the skin totally inaccurate, because there were similarities between the skulls for all three P-40 squadrons of the group (the 459th flew P-38s). Some skulls I've created are alterations of skulls I've found, but again this isn't totally inaccurate, because in photos found in the Philip Adair collection you'll see two P-40s sitting side by side with almost identical skulls. All the skulls here were painted by me, using decals or photos as a guide, altering the proportions where necessary to account for the fact they were on a curved surface. Some skulls don't cover the same area of the nose they did in real life, because of bending and stretching problems caused by the use of decals. Where I could find photographic evidence of a skull/aircraft number/serial number combination, I've used it, the rest have generic serials derived from the Joe Baugher site. I've included the following named aircraft. Some have accurate skull/number combos, if I could find complete information, some are best guesses: Lulu Belle II The Rough Cobb Joe Aztec Joanne Butter Bean II Miss Frances III No matter what their flaws, I think they make a cool appearance in game. I know we don't have an updated CBI for them to operate in, but perhaps some day we will. I created them because they were one of the most unusual P-40 groups out there in a world that seemed dominated by shark mouths. I hope you enjoy them. Simply unzip the enclosed .rar to a location on your computer and open the readme for complete installation instructions. Designed for a full five merged installation of SF2. You'll have to make your own alterations for SF1, and I cannot guarantee they'll work. I've used Raven's wonderful template to create these. I've added my own weathering and dirt layers, so any flaws are solely my own. I strongly recommend that you download and install Wrench's Southwest Pacific P-40N pack located here first: http://combatace.com/files/file/14278-sf2-ww2-pto-p-40n-usaaf-swpa-skinpak/ It has some goodies in it that you'll want to have. This skin is Freeware. It is not to be used in any Payware project, or file. Credits: Raven, for his P-40N and templates. Wrench for his information and tips. Jaypack44 for his USAAF insignia, found at Simmers Paint Shop. The tutorials in the Knowledge Base here, especially Wrench's tutorial on decal creation. Simmers Paint Shop for their weathering tutorials and color swatches. Numerous web pages for pictures and information, too numerous to mention, but http://www.burmabanshees.com/ is a must for information, and links to photo collections. All the members of CombatAce who gave a like to a screenshot, or a comment in a thread. I don't think people realize how important the encouragement of this wonderful community can be through the use of those simple measures. For Lt. John Mateulevicz, who died before my time, but whose gaze from an old photo I could not forget. RIP -
I am going to vote solidly against one party. I have never done this in my life. I have always chosen candidates based on what they professed to believe, and whether that professed belief system aligned with mine as much as possible. But this year, from one party, and not the other, from both party members, and elected officials now, I hear talk of assassination and revolution. I hear, from this one party, that the Constitution of the United States of America should be scrapped, and replaced with something new, perhaps Christian Sharia Law, as if Christ would ever believe in that. I will vote against this party, because they have allowed this to happen. They have, for the most part, stood by silent while all this was happening, and silence is not acceptable when it comes to talk of overthrowing the democratic process. whether you like the results of that process, or not.

I do have a suggestion for the American People, however. There are only two groups of people in this country who can legally set term limits on the House and the Senate, but one group will never do it, even though the Constitution gives them the power, and the other group is either too lazy, too disinterested, or too frightened by the potential results to do it. The first group is, of course, the legislative branch themselves. They will even talk about it, when newly elected, but the talk quickly disappears as soon as they're up for re-election. The other group is us, so we really have no one to blame but ourselves, and that's why, when it comes down to it, I'm really more angry with us, than with them. They act from the selfish self-interest of "riding the gravy train," so I can understand them, it's just common. But us? We all bitch that we want to "drain the swamp," when in actual fact we have the switch for the drain pump in our hands every stinking election. And a little symbol above the switch that says, "drain here." Get over the angry rhetoric America, this is on you. Embrace a little chaos theory if you want term limits, which you do need, and then keep at it until you get the results you want. In fact, just keep doing it. If the two parties keep running the same people over and over again, trying to thwart you, vote all third party for a while. The drain will be in your hands election day. Will I hear the pumps start up? Probably not....

I didn't say I was voting Democratic, did I? I find both the Republican and the Democratic parties to be corrupt. I find both their candidates to be corrupt, just in different ways. I'm a registered Independent, always have been. I am neither a liberal, nor a conservative. Those, to me, are labels I equate with irrational stupidity. On some issues, I'm somewhat conservative. On others, moderately progressive, depending on what I think is the most rational approach to whatever the issue is. The rhetoric that I hear from the Republicans this year has turned me against them, but that does not mean I am turning to the other side of the aisle. There have been many times in my all too many years that I have protest voted, because I wasn't being offered much of a choice, but I wanted, unlike most Americans, who sit out elections and then bitch, to have my voted counted into their demographics. Like the first time I voted all those years ago, when these same two bonehead political parties offered me Johnny Jackass and Barnie Butthead. I voted for a black lady communist, because I knew she couldn't win, but somewhere, in Washington, someone had to read the demographic. OOrah for democracy! But it does beat all the alternatives.

I'm talking about a Senator who tweets that a picture of Hillary Clinton on a magazine cover should have a bullseye across it, and then deletes the tweet. I'm talking about Trump insinuating that 2nd Amendment people could take care of her, and then denying he meant assassination, by using the grammar school technique of leaving off the object of sentences, so he can always say that you misunderstood what he meant. I'm talking about Trump telling his supporters that they need to monitor the polling places for him, because the election is fixed against him (which his mouth and ideas actually did), even though it is illegal for private citizens to do so, because of instances in the past, like the Democratic Corning machine in Albany, NY in the 1940s and 50s telling people going into the polls that they knew how you voted, so you better vote the right way, something my parents actually experienced, and although they knew it wasn't true, many other people were intimidated by it. The list goes on, but I have to get to work.

Thank you, Erik. It's nice to know that there are others who feel this has gone too far. My father was one of those people who fought against things like this, and watched his brothers in arms die fighting it. Somewhere, wherever he is, he's smiling again, because of your words. And hoorah for the Cubbies. After all these time, they've earned it. Good for them.
