  1. I've gotten old joysticks to work with an adapter on modern computers. Generally if it works correctly under Window's controller setup, it should work for your game. I just have a generic adapter off ebay. I think it works by turning the signal into a DirectInput device. I had no problem with more modern Windows games but I didn't test extensively with Dosbox. I know with Dosbox you can change the cycles each program runs at, that might affect how often it checks the joystick for updates. If it works in Windows but not is Dosbox, it's most likely not a controller issue but a Dosbox compatibility issue. A few years ago I switched from Dosbox to 86box. 86box emulates the entire computer, I find it's a much more accurate and consistent emulation. Games that run choppy or stutter in Dosbox run smoothly. I haven't tried it with any joysticks yet, but I expect it to work. It is more work to get set up as you have to pick the virtual hardware and install the operating system. It is also an option for some Windows 95/98 titles, where compatibility with modern systems is poor.
  2. Those are some good recommendations, I don't think I would have found B.A.T. by myself. I will also give Strike Fighters 2 a chance, thanks!
  3. For a while I've wanted to get a broader understanding of air combat history. Earlier this year I tried War Thunder, that game can take you from biplanes to 5th gen. If you have lots of time (or money) to throw at it that is. I got my fill around rank III, which is late war prop planes. For modern 4th gen there are more focused sims like Falcon BMS. I'm hoping to get some recommendations for a sim that covers 1st, 2nd and 3rd gen fighters, which is the blind spot in my understanding. Ideally one sim that covers all 3, covers both red and blue teams and doesn't cost an arm and a leg. Strike Fighters Project 1 has some early American jets, is it worth getting or does Strike Fighters 2 (with mods and DLC) do everything that 1 does? It's hard to get a read on what the modern IL2 has, it seems to have a lot of DLC. I have the old disc from the 2000s but they are different games. I know DCS has at least some of what I want, but I know that it's not cheap. Are there any I missed? Do any stand clearly heads and shoulders above the others? Any help to rid me of my analysis paralysis.
  4. I wishlisted it. I really like the choice of art style, it's like an early 90s sim with better light and cloud effects.
  5. Hi all. I've been playing flight sims for decades. My most recent sim is Falcon 4.0 BMS, I like to dabble in more arcadey fair like the old game Strike Commander. Although I spend more time building models now then sim flying.
