...NF-5B?
FastCargo replied to SidDogg's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
There is a reason this may be occuring. Are you using this aircraft in a Generation 1 install? FC PS Derk is correct in that the NF-5B is based off the CF-116D. The USERLIST.ini also reflects this. -
Nice! I wanted to talk about taking your laptop apart regularly to do exactly what you said. When I was modding my XPS m170, I did all those things (clean, Arctic Silver, etc) and it made a big difference, especially for overclocking. The actual work isn't that difficult, most laptop makers have a service manual you can download for free that takes you through it step by step. But it's not for the easily distracted or intimidated...it's very tedious. The reason I didn't bring it up was that anyone experienced enough to tackle something like this probably already knows about the dangers of overheating... FC

As someone who has exclusively gamed on a laptop for over 3 years, a few pieces of advice. 1) Regularly use compressed air to blow out the vents. I've seen dust kill a lot of video cards because the intakes/exhaust get blocked. Try to blow out the intake and exhaust...blowing into either could drive dust further into the system. 2) I would NOT use tape anywhere if you can help it...the heat will cause the adhesive to soften...causing your 'feet' to slide and leave a mess, as well as possibly cause the laptop to fall. 3) The best thing I've found is jack up the back about 1/2 to 1 inch, leaving the front 'feet' of the laptop on your gaming surface (I use a flat hardback book that the laptop fits on). The material for the 'jack' should be semi-firm...an eraser-type material is good because it's grippy and can support weight, but flexible enough to conform to the laptop's shape. I would also locate the vents and try to keep the 'jack' clear of them. This also elevates the laptop enough to allow good keyboard use, without sacrificing support for your wrists/forearms if you are at a desk. The height you can 'jack' up the laptop will depend on overall size...I used to use just shy of 1 inch on a 17 inch laptop and it was comfortable. 4) NEVER game (preferably never use) with a laptop directly on your lap. Not only does it get hot of course, but your clothes and skin will conform to the vents, effectively creating a seal and driving up the heat. FC

Simple...don't load them in the loadout screen. Pick sidewinders, or nothing. FC -
Problem with multiple Lod Object Placement to Terrain
FastCargo replied to Badfrank's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - Mission/Campaign Building Discussion
Okay. First, under the ModelName= parameter in the Types.ini, just use the name of the primary ini ( PT-76s ). I don't think you need to specify the lod. Second, within the PT-76s.ini, comment out the other entries, and start with the primary LOD file out to the max distance. In other words, instead of: You do this: Check that LOD. If it works, then try: Do this for each LOD. If each one shows up, then troubleshoot with 2 lods at a time. Remember, NONE of the LODs will show up at all, if the hierarchy is different between any of them...hierarchys if changed can only be changed from the 'tips' to the 'roots' of the tree. FC -
Problem with multiple Lod Object Placement to Terrain
FastCargo replied to Badfrank's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - Mission/Campaign Building Discussion
First, the very first entry is truncated (missing a [ ). Second, you haven't specified the particular issue you are having. FC -
And here is an example of what to avoid if you want to be known as a modder: http://forum.combatace.com/21bison-t46839.html No screenshot, poor readme, no research. You want to be known as a modder, you NEED to put in the skull sweat. Believe me, people DO notice. FC

SU-25 Project
FastCargo replied to Sparkchaser2010's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - File Announcements
Maybe never. FC -
The title of 'Modder' is a little nebulous. There is no hard and fast rule about what is considered a modder in the ThirdWire series. I will tell you in general that for a person to be considered, in preferred order of importance, quality, difficulty, originality, consistency and quantity of released products are all factors. A few simple ini edits, even if good ones, probably won't get you branded as a modder (lack of difficulty). A single aircraft, terrain, enviromental mod, even with help from others in textures, ini's, etc, probably will get you labeled as a modder even though it's just one item, because the other factors are high (quality, difficulty, etc). Other things include having a decent readme, a willingness to accept constructive and appropriate critiqing, and being willing to fix major errors. Notice that most of these factors are subjective...so the title of modder to an extent is subjective. Another way to put it...the title of Modder is earned...it isn't given. A very important difference. FC

My Projects (EricJ)
FastCargo replied to EricJ's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - Mods & Skinning Discussion
I don't know...the SH is 40k polygons and it shows. I can't see getting much more than that for any aircraft...usually if something like that happens, the sim just CTDs. FC -
DiD Thirdwire
FastCargo replied to MaverickMike's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
I know of at least one of our members who has played an F-105 campaign this way. He modified the campaign length to require 100 missions, flown every other day. The farthest he got was 67. FC -

Low RCS versus airframe performance
FastCargo replied to vanir's topic in Military and General Aviation
Vanir, What, someone posts contrary data to what you posit and you take your toys and go home? Disagreeing with a moderator happens, but as long as it's handled respectfully (and doesn't relate to board moderation) it's not a big deal. So don't play the 'it's unfair' card here...that don't fly. That being said, this is not a publically owned board. This is a private message board, mostly run and administrated by folks in 'the West' for lack of a better term (I haven't forgotten you Gr. Viper ). Therefore, you can expect some bias. But there are certainly plenty of 'Red Side' fans here, and more aircraft are being made everyday...so you can certainly have a discussion. The main reason most people don't participate in this sort of discussion much anymore was hit on the head by Caesar in his blog (I suggest you read it). A lot of these arguments are based on the hypothetical, but people post like it's gospel. These discussions can quickly head south as each side tries to convince the other and eventually the shouting starts. This kind of crap simply gets old and turns into a 'who's schlong has a higher PK'. And your initial post certainly wasn't unbiased by any stretch, so don't pretend you planned to have a neutral discussion. FC -
I have to admit I'm surprised as well that A) It's flying and B) they are selling it. There are several museums you would think would be fighting over this machine. Hell, the price they're asking isn't much lower than getting a flyable T-38, and that's not a rare machine at all. FC

FedEx 777 Rollout..and first flight

Not for a while...my body clock gets screwed up enough just with a 3 hour time zone change. Last thing I want is a 10 day round the world trip...even if it pays good money! FC -

Low RCS versus airframe performance

Stick, I was very sorry about hearing that sometime ago...I was flying with a Su-30MKI pilot (he was doing an exchange tour) from your country when we heard about it. FC -
Low RCS versus airframe performance
FastCargo replied to vanir's topic in Military and General Aviation
You have no idea what the Raptor can actually do. Aircraft performance, sensor, counter-sensor tech. Not a clue. Not based on sales pitches either. FC -
creating Canopy effect in Max
FastCargo replied to 76.IAP-Blackbird's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - Mods/Skinning Discussion
If he's thinking that, that is correct. In MAX you must assign a specular and reflection value to the material that you are using for the canopy. FC -
FedEx 777 Rollout..and first flight
FastCargo replied to FastCargo's topic in Military and General Aviation
Though I'd like the idea of being based in Indy...probably not going to happen. They've invested serious money into new ramp and hangers for the 777 in Memphis. FC -

An SF2 Series Experiment........
FastCargo replied to 331Killerbee's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
UFU has been working great...and I don't think there is a 15 use limit after all...cause I could swear I've used it a lot more than that. ANSI2Uni I haven't had time to use much more than my initial testing. Once the F-15s are done, I'm going to convert all the inis (and maybe the LST files) to Unicode. FC
