  1. I actually tried this once by leaving my HUD tape on the whole time during a solo flight. I then went out to the area and practiced several manuvers while making appropriate calls to be recorded on the HUD tape. Example would be me calling 'Defensive!' while pulling 5Gs, etc. So authentic...real aircraft background noise, real helmet/oxygen mask/embedded mic, real Gs and G strain. Sounded like crap. Gave up on the project. FC
  2. F 35 vs CF 105.... !

And if you don't build it like they designed it 50 years ago, then research and development costs go up...in which case, better to start with a clean sheet aircraft. FC
  3. You could do it yourself...the HAWK missile is available in one of the download packs somewhere. FC
  4. Sure it is. Look at a data ini for any missile...you'll see tons of lines with probability data. FC
  5. SF treats stealth by the size of the 'hitboxes' described in the data.ini file (what you see as Min/MaxExtent numbers) and determines an overall 'size' of the object. Makes sense overall. Then a modifier can be placed in the data.ini...it's just a simple multiplier...less than 1 reduces, greater than 1 increases. Also, ECM strength does have an effect on lock ranges and missile tracking abilities. However, realize this is a lite sim, so don't expect things like detailed RCS changes based on aspect or on amount of stores hanging. FC
  6. Man, can't please anybody around here... Nobody talks about the AI gunners seem to have gotten more lethal. I've noticed both AAA and A2A gun kills by AI vs player and AI vs AI have significantly increased. Or the fact that the AI finally can do real low level...following the player down to 200 feet or lower sometimes.... FC
  7. Assuming you are talking about the Generation 1 sims, I'd imagine the weapons pack is this one: http://combatace.com/files/file/7791-weapons-pack-252-by-the-wosfp1-community/ An LOD file has absolutely no bearing on what a particular object does. I could use a B-52 LOD file as a drop tank, and as long as the weapon's ini file says it's a drop tank...it's a drop tank. So use that PantherTank. Try a general Google search on fonts...it's probably out there somewhere. FC
  8. For those who have 3DS Max, but aren't sure how to build an aircraft, the Modders section of the files site has several aircraft, cockpit, ground objects, and missiles to download. In addition, the PSD templates recently released with the CF-105 actually had a lot of the final touches done on them with Gimp. Also, for another project I am working on, all my textures and decals were done in Gimp...I hardly found anything in Photoshop that I couldn't do in Gimp, and there were even a few things Gimp could do better. I'm still wrestling with Blender...I keep trying to skip parts or revert to habits I do in 3Ds Max...bad me! Bad me! FC
  9. an Aussi hates the Tiger AHR

Nah, I have the better story. In 2000 I was working an airshow in British Columbia and these guys the day before had thrown some sheep's blood on a F-15E. No biggie, washes off with water. Now, the next day these guys were going to be there, but they were going to be escorted by police so as not to cause any real problems. So I'm standing there in front of my aircraft when a police officer shows up and informs me that these guys want to do a little 'sing in'. Well, I don't object to anyone's right to protest so long as it doesn't cause physical or bodily harm or gets seriously in the way of folks trying to make a living. So I stood nearby, but out of the way, while they did their little 'sing in' in front of my aircraft....very earnest folks. I was tempted to stand in the video they were filming holding a beer, but probably would have looked bad being that I was in my flight suit. Anyway, they did their thing and moved on...I found out later that other than the Strike Eagle, we were the only ones protested in front of that day. I can understand why of course. My aircraft was jet black with blood red insignia, with a occupied center pylon, and a streamlined pipe pointing directly out of the nose. Of course, I didn't have the heart to tell them the strongest armament I can carry on my T-38A is harsh language...working in a squadron where the only thing the other aircraft carries are sensors...not even lasers. FC PS What's sad about the whole thing is these protests are misguided. Typically, all that you do is cost taxpayer money while doing nothing about the polices. If you want to protest, protest at the source...politicians.
  10. Not automatically. You would have to choose the proper tank in the loadout screen (plus make a tank with the proper skin if you don't have one...which would involve hex editing). FC

THIS MOD DOES NOT HAVE ANY AIRCRAFT IN IT - YOU MUST HAVE THE LISTED AIRCRAFT TO BE ABLE TO USE THIS MOD!!!! Su-33 mod readme for the TW series. Version 1.0 Thanks to the following folks: TK - For the ThirdWire series of sims. Marcelo - For the excellent Su-27. Mustang - For the great video tutorials. To my fellow Combatace moderators - For helping me beta test and work out bugs. Any errors or mistakes are entirely mine. What you will need first: Copy of SFP1/WOE/WOV patched to the latest standard (as of 28 Jan 08) Marcfighters excellent Su-27 located here: http://marcfighters.combatace.com/Aircrafts.htm Drdoyos Navy Flanker Skins (Optional): http://forum.combatace.com/index.php?autom...p;showfile=5241 Notes and limitations. These are only visual changes, no changes were made to the flight model other than the addition of independent control thrust vectoring. The Su-33 loadout.ini wasn't changed (I didn't have time), but the data, cockpit and avionics inis have been changed to allow the carrage of AG weapons, including the Moskit ASM missile. The canards and pylons will pattern their colors after the bmps you put in the Aircraft folder...which means they won't change if you use a different texture and so might look weird. This whole thing was done as a lark, to take a break from my T-38 and weapons work. As such, I am pretty much done with dealing with it...so don't expect a whole lot of support from me for this one. 13. Version 1.01 released...hotfix incorporated into release. If you have already done this yourself, you do not need to download version 1.01. FC
  14. If y'all decide to discuss this, please keep it civil. There are plenty of people who still think of this as a hot button issue. FC
  15. Okay, try clicking the green/white 'picture' looking button next to the Font window in the editing area. You should see a pop up window allowing you to select a BBcode...in this case, media. Then copy the url of the video in the appropriate area, and the video should show up...example is below that used 'media' as the BBcode. FC
  16. Sure, you keep believing that. Not that there weren't internal issues in the Diefenbaker government or at Avro or anything.... FC

  18. Yea, and then you had to tweak even more if you wanted the hidef models when the Hornet add-on came out.... FC
  19. Now tell me that wouldn't't have looked sweet sitting on the ramp..... FC
  20. In terms of complexity, this is true. I was meaning that the amount/variety of stuff offered at a DLC price point seems about right. But, yes, on a complexity level, all the offerings are the same. FC
  21. I vowed to never do a cockpit again after I built one for the T-38A...about gouged my eyes out after that. Though, to be fair, my 3d and mapping skills have improved dramatically since then, and I did do some tweaking on that F-15C cockpit that turned out pretty good. FC
  22. Not sure what you mean there. It seems prices are very elastic...again, the price varies as to what you get for it. Let's again put this in crude economic terms, especially for those who think TK isn't making money off of DLCs. A company, big or small, will not continue to invest in actions knowingly unless A) it has very DEEP pockets to have short term loss for long term gain, B) the people running the company are idiots, C) the company they run is a hobby and they don't ever intend to really make money or D) it makes money! It isn't A. I think we all know that. It probably isn't B. TW has been around for almost a decade...look how many other flight sim companies have either gone out of business...or never got past vaporware (I'm looking at you Fighter Ops). TW is still here. Even Microsoft, a company with VERY deep pockets, has bailed out of the genre. It probably isn't C...I'm not sure TK has a 'real' job outside of TW. So it's probably D...DLCs make money! Go figure, right? Look, whatever floats your boat and works for you is fine. But DCS isn't the second coming and TW isn't the devil. The truth is somewhere in the middle...you will get more out of DCS in the long run, but you will pay more to get it. And until there is enough of a knowledge base in the modding world in DCS that you don't have to feel beholden to the DCS gatekeepers to get assistance, the freeware world will simply not be as big as the TW freeware world is. FC
  23. TW native aircraft don't include OUT files. FC
  24. This right here is why I'm going to wait until the modding community has built a significant presence around DCS. As much grief as TK gets for not helping modders, you can see his boards filled with information from him about what parameters mean, etc. As well as downloads of the tools he uses for building some of the stuff himself. Also, considering that right now everything for DCS is DLC (other than DCS World) or planned to be DLC in the near term, I'm not sure what all the bitching is about TW DLC. I have to laugh that one sim gets complaints about DLC but another which uses the exact same money making model is getting 'ZOMG!!! Awesome!'. And it's not like the DLC pricing isn't reasonable for what you get with either the TW or DCS offerings...you pay more, you get more. FC
