Readme for ALARM for SFP1/WOV/WOE (Version 1.1) ********************************* Version 1.1 Update List ************************************* 1. Texture updated and resized. 2. If you already have the previous version of these files, just copy the Objects directory into your SFP1 install as per Instruction step 3, allowing overwrites. 3. Reference materials included. ********************************* Version 1.0 Original Release ******************************** Version 1.0 Thanks to the following folks: TK - For the ThirdWire series of sims. Bunyap and Wpnssgt - For the original Weapons Pack. Mustang - For the great video tutorials. To my fellow Combatace moderators - For helping me beta test and work out bugs. Any errors or mistakes are entirely mine. What you will need first: Thirdwire Weapons Editor - http://www.thirdwire.com/downloads_tools.htm Copy of SFP1/WOE/WOV patched to the latest standard (as of 03 Oct 07) Notes and limitations: The ALARM is a BAe Systems Anti-Radiation missile designed to kill SAM/AAA radars. The real missile has a 'up and over' capability that allows it to descend on a parachute to wait for a radar to light up. The ALARM uses it's own specific pylon...you will see them on the pylon until you fire, then the pylon will disappear. The paint scheme is 'best guess', based on the few pictures available. The TW engine does not support a 'loiter' type missile...so best way to use this weapon is like a standard ARM. By the way, a big shout out to Sundowner and EricJ. Due to some smart archiving on their part, we were able to recover the MAX file and continue to upgrade the model from Oli's already high standard. FC -

This is actually sort of already happening. Read this: http://www.npr.org/2011/12/19/143926857/report-high-levels-of-burnout-in-u-s-drone-pilots Note in the article that there are several drone pilots exhibiting the symptoms of PTSD even though they are not in the theatre themselves. A friend of mine was a Bone pilot who deployed into the sandbox after 9/11 and was flying missions every other day dropping JDAMs where needed in support of ground troops. He was almost as far removed from fire zones as you can be...yet, when he started seeing the results of his missions, he started exhibiting the symptoms of PTSD. Both situations, the combat had been reduced to dots on a screen, without the smells, sounds, and proximate danger being in the thick of it entails...yet, they were affected by it in a similar manner. Yes, they were still in the real world. But it brings up a legitimate point...when simulation becomes near impossible to separate from reality, will it start having similar problems as reality does? Heh, no...but I think they actually painted a silhouette on the side after that... FC

Actually had a T-37 do that once (on a bird)...thing stuck on the pitot tube for the rest of the flight. FC

Someday my friend...someday... Actually, most of the modeling is complete for the aircraft...just need someone to make a kick ass skin (and resultant bump/spec maps) for it. PappyChkSix was working on one...but I haven't heard from him for a long time. Also, the FM needs work...it and the F-108 are getting some love in that regard, just need the time. FC -
Classified Mission Mod (Version 1.1)
FastCargo replied to FastCargo's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - File Announcements
Unfortunately, it hasn't been updated since the Jan 2011 patch...so there may be some serious problems with it. FC -

Funny, I remember Buck Rogers being on TV a long time...but apparently it was just 2 seasons. I watched a few eps on Netflix and cringed...but Erin Grey was hot... Classic Duck Dodgers on the other hand is still funny....much better than the 'reboot' it had on Cartoon Network not too long ago. You know though, the original Buck Rogers story had some interesting concepts. A BSG style reboot could be a really good idea...just don't write yourself into a corner (hello, Hot Dog is the kid's father...really), and leave out the metaphysical stuff. FC

Bomb Drop Sound Mod ?
FastCargo replied to endemoniada's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - Mods & Skinning Discussion
There really isn't a 'bomb drop' sound. In real aircraft you might feel a 'thunk' as the bombs come off, but usually you didn't hear anything. FC -
Well it's official

That's my question...what exactly will be LODs? We know the obvious...current ground objects. But what else...trees? Buildings? The terrain itself? I'll be curious to see how difficult new terrains will be to create. FC -

The equivalent of poking ones self in the eye...
FastCargo replied to Zurawski's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - General Discussion
Zur, I found that boolean just didn't work real well with the gun ports on the A-F Sabres, so I did something similar. I found I got much better results that way. Normally, what I do is for stuff like that is separate them out into different Elements of the same mesh. Gets rid of a lot of shadowing issues while eliminating 'gaps'. FC -

Readme for JSOW for SFP1/WOV/WOE (Version 1.0) ********************************* Version 1.0 Original Release ******************************** Version 1.0 Thanks to the following folks: TK - For the ThirdWire series of sims. Bunyap and Wpnssgt - For the original Weapons Pack. Mustang - For the great video tutorials. To my fellow Combatace moderators - For helping me beta test and work out bugs. What you will need first: Thirdwire Weapons Editor - http://www.thirdwire.com/downloads_tools.htm Copy of SFP1/WOE/WOV patched to the latest standard (as of 28 Jan 08) Notes and limitations: Your aircraft will need to have EOGB on the weapon station in order to be carried. Also, the JSOW is 4 meters long, so you may need to check your weapon station limitations to make sure you can carry it. The JSOW is a GPS guided glide bomb with about a 75km max range at altitude. It comes in 3 versions - the A model which is a cluster munition, mainly against soft targets, the B model which is anti armor cluster, and the C model which has a 500 lb class explosive warhead. Help save my air and space museum!
FastCargo replied to GalmOne's topic in Military and General Aviation
Maybe I'm missing something...but isn't the Canadian Air and Space Museum in Ottawa? I went there on a layover just not too long ago.. Regardless, I signed the petition...I hate seeing museums go out of business. Some of the smaller ones have some of the best stuff. FC -

Dang Eric...you have me convinced!... FC -
Folks, any line you draw between total centralized governmental control and total anarchy can be considered arbitrary...you can ALWAYS find an exception. There has to always be a balance between individual freedom and collective good. And there is a trade-off when you write laws...too general, and it can be abused, too specific, and you may fill volumes trying to account for every possibility. Until you have all the facts, any judgment call you make could be wrong on later self analysis. And even with all the facts, the conclusion you reach may not be the one your neighbor makes...which makes the definition of 'reasonable' even harder to narrow down. FC

The answer is...it depends. I know of some fighters when lightly loaded will do mil power takeoffs. FC
