I know it's no longer routine, but I understood this still happens on occasion and during major exercises. It's always sound policy to watch everyone."In God We Trust, All Others We Monitor"

I've been having a blast with my SFP1/WOV/WOE and FE installs! I haven't had this much fun in a long time with any sim...
For me, it really strikes a great balance between sim and arcade. And for you purists...realize that ANY line you draw between arcade and reality is arbitrary. So I like my line...rivet counters be damned!
On to the pictures - clickable thumbnails only so I don't crash everyones' computers...
I've heavily modifed the original 1979 WOE campaign. Yeah, I know, I could have just installed NATO fighters, but this has been more fun, and I've learned a LOT about the campaign ini files, installing carriers, and generally fixing addon aircraft to get the weapons, decals, pilots, etc to show up right.
F-16 Block 1, after losing the right landing gear, and all my fuel and doing a dead stick landing. Yeah, the ground collision could use some work, even with all settings on hard. But where's the fun in that...:).
I love runway denial missions...an excuse to drop lots of iron in a string.
Of course, that does mean I get shot up occasionally...
While testing the russian nuke cruise missile...I shot down an F-4..with a Badger...
Some F-111 shots...playing the 'How low can you go without crashing' game. Of all the aircraft I've played with so far, the F-111 is still my favorite. Closest thing to a B-1 in overall performance, just 1/3 the payload.
Some FE lovin...with all the knowledge I've gained from altering the WOE campaign, I think I'll turn to FE next...start getting some use out of all those addon aircraft...
Operation Bolo mission in WOV...did a great job...but the only way I found my base was to follow my wingman. Yep, a zero zero landing...cool!
As part of my WOE alteration, I threw in the USS Tawara as a USMC base...for Harriers. I had a buddy who flew OV-10s and said they could easily stop on a dime when landing. So I threw in OV-10s too...this is a post landing screenshot. It's actually not too hard to land an OV-10 on the USS Tawara.
And for some unrelated pictures...ever wonder where the idea for the T-38s in a 'USA' pattern came from:
This is a real picture of an actual flyby of the Randolph AFB water tower...back when it was known as Randolph Field. This is the inspiration for the fake photo of T-38s done decades later.
And this is my son with my sister's dog...one of those instant 'everyone is looking at the photographer and staying still' shots...
On to your scheduled program...

I bet it would have made a poor anti helicopter/CAS bird.I don't see why it would have been a bad anti-helo/CAS aircraft other than maybe not enough armor protection. As long as it flies nice and aims right...

Did everyone forget 'Broken Arrow'? :)
There aren't too many jet flying movies I enjoy really...it's really hard to suspend disbelief on some of the stuff they do...

Something interesting...you can change the gravity value as well...I wonder what would happen if you changed it to zero...:).

Read this one a long time ago. Quite a good book actually...with insights not only about Vietnam, but about his time in the training command...

ok i just have to ask why is it called the bone??Simple.
B-1 = B-ONE = Bone.

Article IV of START covers this... no rewrite necessary. all that is needed is an exhibit of the configuration to satisfy the inspectors that the station cannot be used to launch nuclear weaponry. The Sniper is a targeting pod and, like all targeting pods, is hard mounted to the airframe and cannot be jettisoned. As the Bones are primarily conventional bombers now (I'm not saying they can't be converted back to a nuclear role at some later date which is also covered by Article IV) this upgrade is essential to it's mission. The B-1 desperately needs a self designating capability and the ability to conduct its own bomb damage assesment and a limited reconnisance capability.Interesting...will the START inspectors require inspection of the whole fleet or a representative sample. Also, I'd be curious if the pod will limit the top end of the Bone at all. Not in terms of aerodynamic drag (ie the engines have a LOT of extra power) but what the speed rating on the pod is...wouldn't be good to rip it off in flight...

That looks like it's on the forward edge of one of the external hardpoints. The triangular object ahead of it is an external camera...probably for data gathering. A similiar camera mounting was used on 82-001 (The Odyessy) during early B-1B weapons testing.
Anyway, if they deploy this to the fleet, they'll have to modify the START treaty....

It's a 'visual distance' thingy...Here's the fix:
Open your F-4EJKai.ini, and replace the lod callouts with this:
[LOD001]
Filename=F-4EJKAI.LOD
Distance=8000
//[LOD002]
Filename=F-4E_LOD002.LOD
Distance=1000
//[LOD003]
Filename=F-4E_LOD003.LOD
Distance=4000
//[LOD004]
Filename=F-4E_LOD004.LOD
Distance=9000
//[LOD005]
Filename=F-4E_LOD005.LOD
Distance=12000
Note the 'commented out' section, and the main LOD (001) having a vis distance of 8000. I just tried this and it good!
(even tried placing the F-4E lods directly into the folder, and it did'n't change anything. There was also a spelling error for lod002 -- it was just LOD0. Changed that, and it didn't work.)
Just use the above data, and you're all fixed up!

Since someone else asked...my eleavons on my B-58 seem to disappear early...can you detail what those lines mean?

Has anyone ever done an LAPD skin for the F-5, like the one in the movie Dragnet staring Tom Hanks?I haven't seen one...
And actually, that's a civilian owned T-38A...not an F-5B. It's easy to mix the two up...
Sorry, just had to put on my 'rivet counter' hat for a minute....:).

Well, fixed the Russian cruise missile by changing the EffectClassName, Explosives, Min and MaxLaunchRange, and Duration values to the SRAM values. Temporary fix, but now they at least detonate...:). However, the gravity nukes still detonate on impact. I haven't found a way to make them sit on the ground and time out to explode...

I've been able to get most of the nukes working using Lexx's effects and edits by Batman. However, a few problems have cropped up.
1. I can't seem to get the Russian Nuke Cruise Missile to detonate. Here is the ini:

It looks similiar to the SRAM entry, which does work...anything I'm missing?
2. Is there such a thing as a delayed nuke? In other words, in a low level delivery profile, the nuke actually rests on the ground before it detonates after a preset time? I'm going to try to use the ArmingTime parameter to see if increasing the arming time will let me make a delayed reaction nuke.

Yeah I understamd the recruiting tool part. Like AA when it came out.Yes and no. It's a recruiting tool, but instead of being downloaded, it's played in kiosk's at public venues (air shows, NASCAR races, etc). There is no downloadable option for use on home PCs.

I never saw the reason for close formation flying when its not needed (like in WW2 bomber groups for defensive fire, or air-refueling, etc...)Clouds.

the NX-01 was a surprise to me as I actually kinda liked it,ok after seeing it a few times.I keep hearing about a"J" but can't seem to find anything on it.as for the others..I also like the Klingon Crusiers.they just look tough.
The NCC-1701J was featured in the ST:E episode "Anazi Prime". The timeline was about 400 years after the events of ST:E. You never actually see it except in a small frame on a video monitor. You can get a picture of it in the book "Ships of the Line".
As I've gotten older, I've enjoyed starships that look realistic (as much as a fictional starship can be real) in the fact that you see seamlines, hatches, different areas, etc. The original TOS models kind of looked like they were carved out of wood...whereas in real life, even far away, man made ships, aircraft, spacecraft have obvious seams, lines etc. I think that's where ST:TOS-R has been doing an increasing better job in showing NCC-1701 as being a ship that was 'built'. Check "The Doomsday Machine" for some great shots...as well as "The Tholian Web".

My favorite ships would be NCC-1701E, followed by NX-01. All bumpy! :)

That was the "relic"episode.Can you name his ship?USS Jenolan? Something like that.

I've noticed the same thing in reviewing the ages on applications to my VA. You have a group between 13 and 18 that want to tear up the skies and cant afford the lessons to fly for real, a large gap from 19 to 25/26, and then players evenly spaced from about 27 on up.I think that as the youngsters discover girls and start to drive that flight sim, for that matter almost all games go by the wayside as they start life.
Once you are in your late 20's and above you get secure in your future, you have a wife of significant other and maybe a kid or two. You cant go run around anymore, you have very little money for funstuff, but you have a PC and a joystick. Well you fly the world, talk via Teamspeak to many people and the wife knows where you are at at all times.
Flight sim becomes more social as you get into it, not a bad thing considering that unless you have wads of money or join the military this is the only way for folks to experiance the world.
Regarding Combat sims, where else can a grown, "mature", individual act like a kid and not have to worry about looking foolish? And it's cheaper than Air Combat USA and like operations.
This describes me and my progression with flight sims and age almost exactly. Those college and young 20ish years are filled with wanting to experience everything out and about. I think that's where you see the big gap.

The AA blasts on the sky?That´s totally BS.I guess it was made to scare young pilots,but it is harmless.(for what I noticed)
There are a lot of dead pilots that would disagree with you.

Also, one way to save a lot of money is to buy parts that are one step below bleeding edge. It's the law of diminishing returns in reverse...90 percent of the performance for half the cost.

Wrench,
Making these changes:
"WeaponDataType=4
StoreType=0
JammerStrength=0.000000"
Did the trick...the pod shows up properly now...thanks! Even selects properly (ie you can't have bomb/fuel tanks in the same place as the radar pod...excellent)!
Thanks for the info!

Hey guys,
I've been trying to find a solution...or I'm missing something here.
For Pasko's F-82, I can't seem to find the LOD file for the radar pod anywhere in the downloadable files. Even the weapondata.ini file entry doesn't list the name of the LOD file. Am I missing something here?

I,ve tried all these things, but no go,I give upOne minor thing...did you check the F86 data.ini to make sure the hard point can carry fuel tanks (see note):

Yep, that's exactly the way they work for manual yaw control. Now, to control adverse yaw, you can use asymmetric aileron deflection. Allows you to fly without coordinating rudder deflection.
