  1. Happy Birthday Hrntfixr

    45? Hmmm....thats about half way....I hope. Congrats!!
  2. IAF Jaguars ‘sink’ USS Nimitz

What exactly, in estimated damage, does it take to "sink" an aircraft carrier in an exercise?
  3. We're just trying to tidy up the downloads section and get things more organized.
  4. verdun terrain update

Everything (LODs, BMPs) goes in the Vogesen terrain folder. Then you have to add the applicable section from the Flanders_Types.ini to the Vogesen_Types.ini and also the entry pertaining to the aircraft from the Flanders_Targets.ini to each airfield in the Vogesen_Targets.ini. Everything must also be the correct number sequence according to your Vogesen .ini files. Don't copy the entire files just the parts you need to get the airplanes working. Type= line in the Targets .ini to one of those listed in the Types .ini. Remember the numbers have to be in sequence with your .inis.
  5. Heads up.....

Just thought I'd let everyone know we'll be moving some files and doing some "remodelling" in the WWI (FE) downloads section this weekend. Shouldn't take too long. It'll be a lot easier when we're done to find stuff.
  6. Random Ravings

I wouldn't want to get stuck in a garage with a buck either. Them sumbyatches will hurt ya. My garage door does the same thing from time to time. I have a habit of watching it close when I'm leaving because it will reverse itself once in awhile.
  7. Anyone know this aircraft

Not what I'd call rare. Several very common A/C had 4 bladed props like the DH-2 and the BE 2c. Then there was the R.A.F. BE 12, FE 2, FE 8. The Airco DH 6. The Seimens-Schuckert DIII, DIV. The Handley Page 0/400 bomber. The Short Bomber. The Brits seemed to use them more than anyone else.
  8. Just looking back

In 1973 I owned a 67 Mustang Coupe. Factory 390 (at least it had the 390"Pony" emblem on the front fenders), C6, Fully loaded, factory tach and gauges, full chrome trimmed console with overhead and map lights, A/C, power steering, power brakes (front disc), windshield washer, even a walnut trimmed steering wheel. Paid $650 for it. Drove if for 2 or 3 years and sold it for $500.
  9. Right now I have 20.41GB of Thirdwire stuff on my HDD. Not too long ago I ran out of HDD space (only have 40GB) so I removed (copied to CD) a full SFP1 Korea install, WOV (based on time I spent flying it, it was the least used), and cleaned out a bunch of stuff (unzipped files, double copies of planes and terrains, etc) from my Downloads folder. I was able to get about 4.5 GB of space back doing that. So before I did that I had nearly 26GBs of Thirdwire stuff.
  10. Stalls!

Yeah, it reads to me like Lt. Beauchamp was a lousy pilot.
  11. What do you think?

    Here ya go Gambit..... http://forum.combatace.com/index.php?autom...p;showfile=5033
  12. What do you think?

Just wondering aloud but I wonder if some of the problems we are having with damage modeling and planes flying too well with wings, parts of wings, tail surfaces, etc gone is the lift coefficients for wing sections being too unbalanced. For instance lets assume the mid wing sections have lift values of 4 and the outer wings have value of 2. Thats a total of 6 for each wing. Shoot off an outer wing and you are only losing 1/3 of the lift in the wing. However if you have both sections with a value of 3 then you lose 1/2 the lift of the wing. A recent game experience may back this idea up. The DR1's top wing is made much like this. I shot both outer wing section off the top wing of a DR1 (much like the shots shown above but the center top wing was still there) and it continued to fly, climb, and maneuver much like it didn't have any damage at all. Well the top center wing sections (theoretically) make up 2/3rds or more of the lift for the entire top wing. Make sense? Add to this the "relaxed" flight models of the AI and you get some pretty silly results sometimes. Then again there are models where you shoot off a wing sections and the plane rolls over and spirals in just like it should. For sure the damage models need looking at. Perhaps after the upgrade/new release and we (I should say Peter, I suppose. ) get the new FMs working good we can tackle the DMs.
  13. Hi PigDriver. Welcome to CombatACE. First things first. Make sure your version is the latest...v08.30.06. You can find the version number in the lower righthand corner of the Mainscreen in the game. If not, install the patch. Next, unless you intend to install the NATO FIGHTERS addons, I highly recommend you download and install the latest Weapons Pack v03JUL06. This will preclude you having to install any weapons separately for the most part. After downloading some of the older planes, there are some things you will have to do to get weapons to show up. See the KNOWLEDGE BASE here in the forums...specifically How To Edit Loadouts For Weapons Packs. While you're there you will see several essential subjects worth reading over. Some of it might not make much sense to you at this stage but it will help later on. Don't know how much computer experience you have but don't be too intimidated. Most of the "fixes" are simple "COPY and PASTE" or text edits of files using Notepad. Enjoy WOE and don't hesitate to ask questions.
  14. Correct. Without a cockpit planes won't appear in the single mission selections. Not sure why someone would want to fly the drone? Anyway if you put it in the Aircraft folder it will only show up randomly. If you want to use it for target practice I suppose you will have to create some custom missions for it. I think also the latest version of the RANGE terrain comes with some BQM-34 intercept missions. edit: I see the Drone comes with a mission included, too.
  15. Anybody spend much time in the F2b Brisfit? I like this bird. Very versatile. It can hold its own against other fighters, carries a good bomb load...even two 200 pounders, and you have the extra protection of a gunner. I can see why the real Brisfit was a popular mount during the war. Which speaks well for the plane in the sim, IMHO, as the plane (FM and all) seems to fit the actual description pretty well. It would be nice to have the option to fly one without the extra Lewis gun on the wing and maybe a twin mount for the gunner as well. Regardless, the Brisfit is a fun plane to fly. Thanks to the ATeam and Peter01 and everyone involved in providing this model.
  16. FE download version ?

Hello and welcome to CombatACE! I don't know if the download is all patched up or not. One way to tell is when you run the game. On the Mainscreen there should be a version number in the lower right hand corner. The latest version is v.02.19.07.
  17. My new favoite plane....

http://www.theaerodrome.com/aircraft/gbrit...bristol_f2b.php Check out the number of Aces in the F.2b compared to others. More than the SE5 and second only to the Camel. Speaks volumes as to the aircraft's abilities.
  18. My new favoite plane....

Yes. I'm using Peter's FM but for some reason the gunner's yaw angle is set to 360. In addition to resetting the yaw angles (I have a 200 degree sweep) I have also chaged the min. pitch angle to -30 so the gunner can shoot downward....he hasn't shot off the tail yet. PitchAngleRate=25 MaxPitch=40 MinPitch=-30 DefaultPitchAngle=10 YawLimited=TRUE YawAngleRate=25 MaxYaw=280 MinYaw=80 DefaultYawAngle=180
  19. Hmmmm....A little OT but, I can't imagine the 109 being a successful carrier aircraft with that narrow undercarriage. I know they "widened" it some but.... I would think the 190 with the much wider gear and radial engine would have done much better. Too bad the project was shelved before the introduction of the FW. Anyway I guess you've seen the profiles for the 109T at Wings Pallette?
  20. My new favoite plane....

I doubt they were that maneuverable. When you fly it you won't be turning inside too many opponents. Of course the AI can turn almost anything quicker than player pilots. You have to fly it almost like the Phantom in Strike Fighters. If a bandit gets on your tail use your speed to extend and turn back once you've put a little distance between you and your adversary, hoping your gunner can score some hits while you do so. Also watch for targets of opportunity that you can slip behind and blast before they know you're there. Its just quick enough to turn into a passing fighter and stay with it long enough to get a kill. Good deflection shooting helps too.
  21. For clarification on the EndYear= change see this thread: http://forum.combatace.com/index.php?showtopic=21466
  22. How about we try this. Lets go over some things to make sure you're where you're supposed to be. You've installed WOE and patched it up to .08.30.06? You've downloaded Weapon's Pack 03Jul06? You've ran the Weapons Pack .exe, checked the Wings Over Europe "box"? Double checked the filepath to be sure its pointing to the correct spot? (Stock install location is "whatever HDD you have it installed...mine is C" so its C:\Program Files\Wings Over Europe). You've downloaded BOTH the F-15E and the F-15E update file and put the updates in the F-15E folder overwriting where prompted? Still doesn't work? Hmmmmm.......it just so happens that I just reinstalled WOE last week. When you reported your problems I went and downloaded the F-15E, installed it and everything shows up as it should so I don't think there is a problem with the aircraft data.ini or the loadouts. The only other thing I can think of that I've done to my install is go into the Options.ini in the main directory and change all the EndYear= dates to 2040. Don't know if that will make any difference. Try that and see what happens. Next I would suggest reinstalling the Weapons Pack. If that doesn't work maybe starting from scratch is the only option.
  23. Holy Moly!

Happy Birthday Fubar!! Won't be long before you'll be on AARP's mailing list.
  24. First point. Not sure how many people have actually downloaded WOE from Thirdwire since the game has been out since last year. Could be most are not familiar with how the downloads work as far as reinstalling them so none of the 16 people could comment. Second point. There is a pretty good reference area called the Knowledge Base in this forum. The answers to your questions about weapons not showing up are there. Third point. "Jezz, 16 people viewed this post and not ONE offered any help or advice, man this does not speak well for this "community" " Wow, 16 people in roughly two and a half hours and you haven't been given what you want yet?!?! First, see Second point above. Next, PATIENCE is a virtue. Insulting the "community" for not jumping up to help, especially when you are asking probably the most common question we get here won't get you very far. Some friendly advice when you have a question about any game in any community...Check the stickies, references, and such in the forums first. Use the search function. Then if you can't find the answer you are looking for, post your question and give it some time...probably more than16 views and 2 1/2 hours...
