A Severe Risk
hurc replied to Jug's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - General Discussion
Short answer is Yes, a mod folder for each .exe. Long answer is that you actually need 2 sets of mod folders. Here is how I did it. I used a modified path to keep it as close as possible to how the game creates them on the "C:" drive. So mine are something like "K:\Data\Users\Owner\Saved Games\Thirdwire\StrikeFighters2" and the one the game created was "C:\Users\Owner\Saved Games\ThirdWire\StrikeFighters2". Plus the others for each .exe such as "C:\Users\Owner\Saved Games\ThirdWire\StrikeFighters2 Vietnam", etc. Of course after you run each of the seperate .exe's it creates its own mod folder into the C: drive users\saved games folder, so they should already be there if you ran them at least once. I then Copy those mod folders to my K: drive in the path like above. Then edit the options.ini in the C: mod folders to the new path. Note you still need the mod folders on C:, but they only need contain the options.ini and version.ini files. The actual mod files and its subfolders go into your D: drive folders. Quite messy. So you will end up with 2 sets of mod folders in effect, but the ones on C: just point to the other ones on the second drive by means of the path in the options.ini. Any Questions? LOL Hurc -

Looks good Boostjunky! I like the dirt airfield as a Army Base, helos are at home there. Jets dont like dirt up their intakes too much, LOL. I would like to see that targets.ini with the sams as seperate from the citys, I may be able to use it in my SF2V bases makeover. Thanks, Hurc -

No, this Forest.LOD was set to use TEROBJECT_TREES.TGA and I didn't modify it. Hurc -

Here is how the Forest object looks in game: In the background are standard terrain trees, any tree object I've tried turns out this same way with some sort of transparency problem it seems. Is there a fix ? -

Of course not, why would I think to use a "forest" as a single tree, LOL. I did see it in there but never tried it. Will give it a go and see if the Dog likes it, hehe. Thanks, Hurc -

I can't find any tree objects that work, they all have some sort of transparency problem. Anybody have one that works ? I think I read that one of the last patches to the game broke that. -

Ok, I found the V-100 in the IR terrain and spruced it up for Nam a bit, But...Not really happy with the results. Look at the size difference! That BRDM is tiny compared to a V-100/XM706. Next to the M35 truck it looks like a Mini Cooper! Ugh! My request for a new model still stands to any takers: -

For 2 types of fighters at a base there is a way. After looking at the YAP2 DaNang airbase, I modded my SF2V DaNang Airbase with the DaNang Annex, a second airbase at that map location. It has a place holder runway (no textures) and several ramps/buildings on the other side of the stock runway. Then you make a annex.ini with its parking spots. Viola! 2 different fighter types! Oh, and 2 different Large A/C types if you want too! BTW, I am working SF2V bases and will release if enought people want em, but I can find very little in the way of Pics of the VPAF (North Vietmanese AF) Bases ? Just a few BDA pics from 30K feet which are of little help. Anyone have a source ? While Im talking about SF2V stuff, I would like to request (wish I could do the modeling myself, dont know how you can afford that app :-( ) 2 vehicles if possible for Base Security - XM706 APC and a M60 Machine gun armed jeep: -

WOW! nice job! I can send you my Multi language "Support CA Signs" if you want to include them?. I have in them in Russian, Vietnamese, Arabic and a West German/East german version, as well as my modded original in English. That should cover most terrain sets. What about creating a standard USAF airfield item, a generator powered mobile light unit ? We called em Light-Alls: Hurc -

And I have the perfect place for your new toys: here is my tweek of stock airbase 5 SF2V; Large A/C have their own Alert Ramp, You need a "stinking Badge" to get to you A/C and after a hard day bombing Charlie, you go cool off at the base pool; -

PureBlue - So far it seems to work, I have read some posts of how SF2 will cache its loaded objects, textures, etc. and that it has issues with things not always showing correctly. Mostly I've see this with different textures, but not complete objects coming up missing. I was able to set Hopsten to ShelterA type till 1979, then all change to ShelterZu types from 1980 using the Inactiveyear/Activeyear entries. -

While we're on the subject of airbase objects, is there a variable to make objects not show after a certain date ? It would allow us to set the old dirt revetments to disapear after 1960 for example and a new HAS build in to the same location. I was able to make a weapon storage area using the "C-Store" objects in the airfield objects pak in downloads. Then fenced it in and added some bomb carts, forklifts etc, but I've never found any "bombs on trailer" type object for download yet. -

Are the earth mounds supposed to be a wall of trees ? What about doing a Google Map of Hopsten with the satelite terrain view, then make that as a overlay on the base ? then match the HAS and taxiways placement to the overlay. It wont be 3-d, just give the flavor of trees around the base structures. I dont know how to actually do an overlay, but the guys who build YAP use something like that to build thier new Rising Sun terrains. -

This is one Mod I'm really looking forward to. Thanks to all those who are working on it! Once upon a time I tried to get the original Korea mod looking this good and that was alot of work. I don't know how many Banshees blew up on the taxiway as they rocked side to side, wings crashing into the tarmac! No questions on when will it be done, I know ...2 weeks. But is there by chance going to be a correct 500lb bomb in the weapons? The old(current) model is a clone of the 1000lb bomb as far as the LOD goes from what I can tell.It just looks odd to have a huge 500lb'er hanging under my wings. Thanks, Steve "Hurc" Crane -
