JonathanRL replied to ONETINSOLDIER's topic in Military and General Aviation
The Moth is a nice ride indeed :) Saw one a few weeks ago and happy to hear more are flying :) -
I must say that few I know takes the UN seriously theese days. Things such as this just enforces it. I mean, their council of Human Rights include Saudi Arabia, China etc...

Is there actually a such thing as an Su-9A?
JonathanRL replied to krgf15's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
According to Wikipedia: The Su-9 had primitive R1L (NATO reporting name 'High Fix') radar in the shock cone and was armed with four K-5 (AA-1 'Alkali') beam-riding air-to-air missiles. Like all beam-riders, the K-5 was so limited as to be nearly useless for air-to-air combat. Unlike the Su-7 and later Su-15, no Su-9 carried cannon armament, although two fuselage pylons were reserved for the carriage of drop tanks.[1] PT-8 (Factory No.153 - Izdeliye 27) Intended as the production version of the T-3/PT-7, the PT-8 was ordered in small quantities from Factory No.153 before a new directive from the Council of Ministers specified new performance parameters for the new interceptor. Three aircraft were completed and delivered to OKB-51 by rail where only one flew. It could be that the Guns was on some prototypes (It is not mention what changes was done to the PT-8) - the Su-9 Design was made when Guns was still the preferred weapon - despite its obvious high-attitude interception design. However, why anybody would design a Interceptor that needs to be escorted themselves is beyond me - Beamriders are only effective against large, sluggish bombers. -

...Now why the hell did they go off and want to scrap the Harriers early? Is it not cheap to just keep the bloody things? -

Exp.3 rumors
JonathanRL replied to paulopanz's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - General Discussion
We got a few more clues to whats going on in TKs mind. Yeah, we do have plans to upgrade the whole merc campaign interface so you have more control over the squadron management - hire/fire pilots, stock weapons instead of buying for each missions, buy different types of fuel (one gives more thrust but easily catch fire vs one with less thrust but safer etc), buy different types of cannon ammo, pay for damage/manitenance, etc etc... some day if we have the time :) And besides, there are so many cool and fun planes we can add in Merc setting, including F-5, Mirage F.1, Saab Draken, Mitsubish F-1, etc etc etc, not to mention many of the local upgrades like AIM-9 armed Hunters, etc, etc Obviously, not all in one Exp pack, but the possiblity is limitless here :) http://bbs.thirdwire.com/phpBB/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=7664&p=49115#p49115 -
Exp.3 rumors
JonathanRL replied to paulopanz's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - General Discussion
If would prefer a flyable F-5 Freedom Fighter from Thirdwire above all else - pref with C and E versions also avalible. Otherwise, I like the early Europe idea alot. When it comes to the Buccaneer, I would almost want it to be flyable. For me, the late 60:ies, 70:ies has burned out its welcome in Thirdwire. Its pretty much just the F-4 all the way. Exp 1 broke this string and that is why I love it. I do not have anything against what-if scenarios. I love em and I would be happy to see Parani-Dhimari getting some love. Regardless what it is, I am quite sure it will be good. TW has yet to let me down. -

SF2 expansion 2 teaser and mission editor teaser
JonathanRL replied to DanW's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - General Discussion
According to TWs Facebook, Tomcat will come before XP3. It will be the first time we see a stand alone airplane release, so I am curious to where it will be implemented in terms of campaigns and such. -

Photos from Stockholm Air Show 2010 (Heavy Pictures, modem people beware)
JonathanRL posted a topic in Military and General Aviation
Arrived at the Air Show at Gärdet at 9.30 in the morning, to see Helicopter No: 15 (Agusta A109) land, and a model of a JAS 39 Gripen (Nicknamed Gripen Light) beeing towed into the area. Military Staff was busy making the place in order for the guests about to arrive. It was not the assigned area for this Guardsman, but it made for such a great photo. K9 Units trained their dogs in the general area. People was understandably cautions about getting closer. Nothing says "APC" like a recruiting poster.... The Helicopter 15 arriving for letting people take a closer look at it for a few hours... ...and it left shortly after lunch. The big show for the day however was a fully restored Bleriot IX Aircraft - the same kind used when flying over the English Channel. It was the only Aircraft that both took off and landed at the Grass Airstrip of Gärdet and also the only one that flew lower then 300 meters. Another Classic that flew over the area was a late-war Spitfire (Mk.XVIIIe). Ruddy fast thing - and at 300 meters, not a very easy thing to take a decent shot at considering the weather... A Sikorsky arrived, showing off their supreme Search and Rescue skills. Its good to know that if I take to the Seas, my life will be in their skilled hands. Do note all the grass flying around in the air, whipped up by the Helicopters Rotors. Common as Gulls - at least on the few Swedish Air Shows we do have - a Four-Plane Wing of F7 Såtenäs - flying JAS 39 Gripen C. Diamond Formation. After them came the classic Aircraft of the Airforce. SK-60, A-32 Lansen and J34 Hawker Hunter. A J29 Tunnan was supposed to have participated but was unable due to malfunction. I failed to get a decent shot of the SK-60 so only shots of Lansen and Hunter are displayed. The Dread of the Soviet Baltic Fleet. Lansen was an Attack Aircraft, designed to wreak havoc on Soviet Invasion Fleets. Later versions carried heavy anti-ship missiles. Hawker Hunter, purchased to fill the gap between J29 and J35, stayed in service for less then ten years. Said to be one of the most lovely planes possible to fly - and also the most beautiful Aircraft to serve in the Air Force to date. Also on the Area was numerious (boring) Ground Vehicles and something rather less boring - A SK-60 Flight Simulator where the Pilot under instruction would try and land at former F-14 Airbase. I was the second during the day to attempt this and the first one to succeed. It was a tad tricky - I am used to a Keyboard, not numerous different controls yet at least I was familiar with the software. Most fun was the throttle and the adjusting of Airbrakes and Flaps. The unit patch suggests they trained me to fly the wrong thing... The first one to attempt landing. His Aircraft became as much of a smoking crater that Microsoft allows in their Flight Sims. Last thing before this entry ends: More of this in Stockholm. Last great Air Show was 12 years ago. Unacceptable! Once every second year at least. -

I have the sad duty to report that the Spitfire on my pictures crashed upon landing in Norway, killing the pilot upon impact. -
How fitting that tomorrow I shall gaze upon a Spitfire :)

From what I hear, they where going to tie it in more with the Ryanverse. I dearly hope this means "Bear and the Dragon" missions.

Thousands of feet march to the beat, it's an army on the march Long way from home, paying the price in young mens lives Thousands of feet march to the beat, it's an army in despair Knee-deep in mud, stuck in the trench with no way out Thousands of machine guns Get on firing through the night Mortars placed and wreck the scene Guns the fields that once were green Still a dead-lock at the front line Where the soldiers die in mud Rosen, houses since long gone Still no glory has been won Know that many men has suffered Know that many men has died Six miles of ground has been won Half a million men are gone And as the men crawl the general call and the killing carry on I long what was the purpose of it all What's the price of a mile Todays drinks are to you, brave Soldiers!
