  1. Info About Plane Skins

Hi Firecage, There are around 3500 aircraft skins for BHaH, which are in DDS format and are located in the installed BHaH folder: CWSWW1Over Flanders Fields/Campaign/Campaign Data/Skins There are no actual templates as such, so you'll need to convert a DDS file of the particular aircraft you want to skin. To do this you open an appropriate DDS 'skin' file using DXTbmp (downloadable from the web). Open the file in DXTbmp then use the lower left editor icon to save the file as as a bmp single layered file to your selected editor (Paint Shop Pro or Adobe Photoshop). This can then be opened and saved as a base layer (pspimage or psd), on which you can build your modified layers to create he skin you want. Once your ready to test the skin, save the skin as a merged Windows or OS/2 bmp and then open it (as extended bmp file) in DXTbmp. Then save it again as a DDS texture (DDS DXT1). Rename that file exactly as one of the same aircraft type already loaded in the Skins folder (remember to save the original first). Then you should be able to see the skin by using the Quick Combat function in BHaH, provided you are a pilot of that Nationality. Just select QC then scroll down to select the aircraft type, then scroll down to the particuler skin you've created. You'll need to have BHaH installed of course, but if you want to get going beforehand, post here and one of us I'm sure can mail you DDS files for the particular aircraft you need. The OBD team specialists for skinning German aircraft are 'OvS', 'Paarma' and 'Makai'.
  2. Just Ordered BH&H

Welcome Firecage - now name seems familiar - was it enhancements for First Eagles or maybe Full Canvas Jacket ??
  3. The amazing shrinking TAC

VISTA users: There is a ViewUI.xml file in the actual Over Flanders Fields folder, but that is not the file to change. Try this pah; C:\Users\<YOUR USERNAME>\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\CFSWW1 Over Flanders Fields
  4. Reason for screen name....

'Sandbagger' 1. Someone who makes out they are not too good at something then goes on to show they really are very good - a 'sandbagger'. 2. During my 27 service in the RAF I gained a reputation for telling exagerated or 'tall' stories. In the military, the term 'pull up a sandbag' meant someone was about to relate a story. Hence 'Sandbagger'. Take your choice
  5. waited since 1983

Welcome JimGad - I live in Lincolnshire but was born and raised in Carshalton, South London. I'm sure you'll get hooked very quickly into BhaH and all it has offer.
  6. New Noop anyone?

Hi all, I thought you might like to get a glimpse of the five colour version of the new Nieuport model (not including the possible N.28) - may change in its final form and probably used for the 1918 Nieuports (particularly the N.27).
  7. OFF Current Status

The N.24 carries a single Vickers - as to the rounds? - maybe Shredward can enlighten us. In BHaH we already have the N.11, N.16 and N.17. If all goes well we are hoping to add the N.17 bis, N.23, N.24, N.24 bis and N.27, The N.28 is also a possibility. As to if and when - it all depends on research, data files, modeling and skinning time frames - so no promises
  8. OFF Current Status

    Certainly is
  9. Yup - you can easily lose sight of aircraft at altitude in clouds - so you'll like what Winder has up his sleeve now for a weather effect
  10. OFF Current Status

Just as a heads up, Tom may be better known to some of you by his aka 'Rex Hannover'. Tom works tirelessly in the background and rarely steps out into daylight. However, without his skills and dedication, much of what has been achieved in BHaH would not have been possible.
  11. Photoshop guru's please help!

I've answered also - not sure if it'll help but worth trying I think.
  12. The problem is that the DDS file you're probably using as a base file was created from a merged BMP texture file. That means all of the originators seperate layers become one. Therefore if you overpaint an area that contains detail, everything becomes recoloured and you lose detail. I use Paint Shop Pro 7, but PSD is similar. One way around this is possibly: 1. Highlight the area, copy it and paste as a new layer. 2. Repeat this to create a second duplicated layer. 3. Highlight the lower layer and paint it the colour you want. 4. On the upper layer, use the erase tool to remove everything except the detail structure. 5. Use the adjust menu option (Hue/saturation) to adjust the detail to the correct colour. 6. Fade this layer to an appropriate amount. 7. Check it out in-game and if OK, merge the 2 layers (or leave them seperate).
  13. New Noop anyone?

It's on the cards, so maybe you'll see it, once the other Nieuports are done
  14. New Noop anyone?

The team are well aware of the various 'wish lists'but need to keep things in perspective with regard to historical accuracy and which aircraft types were commonly used. I guess its the same now as when we were running up to the initial release - having to draw a line in the sand and knowing where to stop. Here's the French units destined to recieve the new Nieuports (there will be other Nieuport versions) There may be other Nations covered if they flew these types. We'll see. ESC 12, 15, 23, 26, 31, 37, 38, 48, 49, 57, 62, 65, 67, 68, 69, 73, 75 to 103, 112, 150 to 155, 313, 315 and the Lafayette.
  15. New Noop anyone?

We are trying to introduce more aircraft types, but given the OBD team size, we can only do so much in the time we have (we all have 'real' jobs as well). So far we have the EV and N.24 in motion. Hopefully the Snipe is on its way and there is work on a Greman two seater. Also we are trying to fill in those squads with missing aircraft etc. For instance we have ready 350 Viper and HS powered SE5s as the initial release had only the squad stock aircraft available. We now have all of the SE5 aces. In addition the team have been busy creating new skins for missing aces on the German side as well as enhancing some existing skins. There's also a lot of work going on not directly for aircraft, such as scenery updates and additions and the ongoing Manager tweaks. So all in all our small team are going for it - I'm sure you'll all be pleased with the next release (please - don't ask when)
  16. New Noop anyone?

We have all of the Escadrilles listed for aircraft, including the 'Lafayette units. Aircraft will be in aluminium as well as five colour schemes. I'll post some shots of the five colour scheme N.24 soon.

  18. CH Flight Rig and TrackIR4

Hi Vasco, I've a Vista 64 rig with the same items installed and all work just fine. The PC is due out of the shop at the weekend (mobo fault), so if you still need help, PM me and maybe I can assist.
  19. Se5 skins

Don't let Shredward know - he'll be thumbing through his vast data base to find it
  20. Se5 skins

Not if I get the chance to skin them first
  21. Se5 skins

Lets just say it may be needed to counter a new German threat
  22. Se5 skins

Err - umm - it could just be I spoke too soon
  23. Back with my old squadron!

Hi Jim, I'm ex RAF also - 27 years as a 'Sooty', 13 of which were on Tornado IDS and ADV. I served on 27 who were co-located at Marham with the 'Hole in the Wall' gang. However, we were the senior Squadron
  24. Se5 skins

I'm afraid it's not in the time frame of WW1 enough to justify its inclusion this time around. But a nice one to have one day.
  25. Se5 skins

I believe the idea is to release all updated/new skins as part of the next release for BHaH. I know the German skinners are also hard at work, so I guess you're all in for very many more aircraft to fly or attack. In addition there are new aircraft being worked, the first of which is the Noop 24.
