quest for "Italy" terrain
Baltika replied to whiteknight06604's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - General Discussion
Very early WIP here, at post #22:- http://combatace.com/topic/74862-has-anyone-done-a-balkans-campaignnato/page__st__20 Covers the area you are interested in, but so far down my list that it is unlikely to see the light of day even in the medium to long term. If you PM me I can send it over to you "as is," but there's not much to it now. Slainthe! -

Hi Kevin, interesting project. I realise you are putting a lot of effort into this, as a Scotsman I am just sorry to hear all the hills/valleys of Scotland won't be implemented, although I completely understand why. Sounds like you are planning on hand-tiling the missing landmass areas. Big job. Would it be of any interest to you for me to create a new HFD in TE for the region you want, using the stock Germany CE tileset? Of course, plotting of existing cities wouldn't be exact, and maybe you don't want to redo all that plotting and tiling work. Just a suggestion, if it's no good, no worries. I have all these partially completed wips sitting gathering dust if you want me to send them over. . . http://combatace.com...baltika__st__80 The map at post #90 is closest to what you're working on, but I can shift it further south if you prefer. . . Just seems a shame to put a ton of work into hand-tiling something if it could be automated. Slainthe! Baltika -

Heavy Snowfall effect in SF2 ?
Baltika replied to tiopilotos's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - General Discussion
Hi guys, I implemented Stary's excellent heavy snowfall mod in my Iceland_02 terrain. To get it to show up in SF2 series you need to edit this line in Stary's blizzardeffect.ini:- EffectShaderName=effectLightLevel.fx That is under the [blizzardMaterial] heading. Check out Iceland_02, for inclement weather you always get Stary's heavy snowfall:- http://combatace.com/files/file/12516-full-scale-iceland-terrain/ Thanks, Stary, for that great effect -

The refusal of the Western Powers to negotiate on this issue has left the Kremlin with no option but to pursue a military solution. Full-scale war in Central Europe is considered detrimental to Russian national interest. A bold strike to occupy the strategically vital staging post of Iceland is considered to be an achievable goal which will demonstrate the resolve of the Russian people whilst avoiding a nuclear escalation of hostilities. Once occupied, Iceland will become the major forward missile and submarine base of the Russian Empire and will guarantee strategic control of the North Atlantic. Air and ground units of the Iceland Defence Force are on station to mount a defence of the island. The USS Dwight D. Eisenhower CVN-69, with units of Carrier Air Wing 7 embarked, is making all speed to the North Atlantic to oppose the Russian invasion. . . // -------------------------------------------- // 1.03 update Revised installation instructions to synchronise with Iceland terrain v1.02. // 1.02 Update This adds in squadrons from the remaining members of the Iceland Defence Force:- RNoAF 332 Skv (F-16) RCAF 441 Sqn "Silver Foxes" (CF-188) KLU 323 Sqn (F-16) Also adds in the following ground forces:- Norwegian Telemark Battalion Dutch Regiment Huzaren Van Sytzama Royal Canadian Dragoons In addition to the files listed below which were required for previous versions, you will need to add the following files:- CF-188 mod by Saguanay, based on Mirage Factory FA-18A: Available at http://www.checksix-fr.com/ KLU 323 Sqdn Skinpack by RavenClaw_007 (Put in F-16A_Blk10-NDC folder):- http://combatace.com/files/file/3974-323sqn-skinpack/ // --------------------------------------------- Required Files:- Iceland Terrain by Baltika, and v1.02 update:- http://combatace.com/files/file/11447-iceland02-full-scale-terrain-v10/ http://combatace.com/files/file/11476-iceland-terrain-v102-update/ Aircraft Carriers & Ships: USN Nimitz Class Carriers - Modded by WombRaider from original by Digital Overload: http://combatace.com/files/file/7423-usn-nimitz-class-carriers/ Admiral Gorshkov by X-RAY http://combatace.com/files/file/5830-admiral-gorshkov/ UdaloyI by China Insky Team http://forum.combatace.com/index.php?app=downloads&showfile=10336 UdaloyII by China Insky Team http://forum.combatace.com/index.php?app=downloads&showfile=10330 Russian Aircraft:- MiG-31M - Modded by Erwin Hans from lindr2's original http://combatace.com/files/file/8585-mig-31m-new-mig-31bm-radar-fix/ SU-33 Sea Flanker by Insky Group: http://combatace.com/files/file/11364-su-33-sea-flanker/ SU-39 by Erwin Hans et al http://combatace.com/files/file/7921-su-39-super-grach/ MiG-29 by Mirage Factory (MiG-29C_rus) http://combatace.com/files/category/135-mig-29-fulcrum/ Tu-95A Bear by Veltro2k http://combatace.com/files/file/7866-tu-95-bear-a/ MiG-27K mod by Gepard http://combatace.com/files/file/5493-mig-27k-carrier-based/ Su-27 by MarcFighter http://marcfighters.combatace.com/Aircrafts.htm NATO Aircraft:- F-14A+ - Modded by Typhoid from Mirage Factory original: http://combatace.com/files/file/3924-f-14a/ F-15C/D MSIP by Dave, Crusader, Fubar512, wpnssgt et al http://combatace.com/files/file/5865-msip-f-15cd/ Harrier GR7 by bobrock http://combatace.com/files/file/9116-harrier-gr7/ Tornado F3 by bobrock http://combatace.com/files/file/8268-tornado-f3/ F-16A Block 10 NDC by Mirage Factory http://combatace.com/files/file/3507-mirage-factory-f-16a-blk-10-ndc/ FA-18A by Mirage Factory http://combatace.com/files/file/1553-mirage-factory-fa-18a-hornet/ EA-6B Prowler by Agamemnon &allenjb42, original by Hawker http://combatace.com/files/file/2517-ea-6b/ Skins:- 57th FIS F-15C skin by Dave http://forum.combatace.com/index.php?app=downloads&showfile=1572 VF-103 Jolly Rogers F-14 skin by Paul Nortness (put in F-14A+ folder) http://combatace.com/files/file/4850-vf-103-jolly-rogers/ // ---------------------------------------------------- // INSTALLATION Ensure that all files listed above are installed. This will break any earlier Polar Glory campaign still in progress, so you may wish to finish before updating. Any problems getting it up and running, give me a shout. // ---------------------------------------------------- Notes:- I had a problem getting Su-33 loadouts to work in campaign mode. To get the missiles to show up, I had to use the weapons editor to remove StationCode entries from these missiles:- AA-11B, AA-10C and AA-10D. If you have nay trouble with this stuff, post in the support thread and I'll do my best to help out. For all those of you who say, "Why aren't you using the new TMF F-14A/B for SF2?" This is a "template" campaign based on all the stuff I have in my heavily-modded WoE Oct 08 install. The purpose is to get a workable Iceland campaign out asap, as this has been requested and is a mission goal. I am also behind the curve in modding SF2, and I am very keen to see what the new EPs and F-14 game will bring to the table in terms of naval warfare. Those of you who have tried my Midway campaign will know I can force naval engagements in the WoX engine, but there is no point busting a gut to get something done when it will be served up on a plate soon enough. Having said that, look out for "Operation: Nordic Hammer," coming soon for SF2 series. Meantime, have fun in the Battle for Iceland ;-) Bug reports, complaints and Single Malt to Baltika, c/o CombatAce ;-) 18 November 2010 // ------------------------------------------------------ -

Seems like there is scope for a concerted effort here. Brain32 has posted that he had prepared multiple tile sets to cover the region, with appropriate variation for each country, and yeah, Southern Italy will look much different to Balkans region. . . You around, Brain? This terrain is crying out for a custom hi-res tileset, man ;-) Also, as you will know Wrench, there just aren't enough transition tiles in the GCE set, which is why C5 was getting coastal/city weirdness with his WIP map. Of course, I got the usual itch, and have been building this one up from scratch, using the fully transitioned tileset included with Kamchatka terrain, just for fun. The extra transition tiles mean the coastal and city areas tile properly using autotile, which cuts down a ton of hand tiling work. Also, as you will see, I have expanded the borders a bit to include Switzerland, Austria, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary, Romania and Bulgaria, as well as the host of Balkan nations. I was aiming for a more comprehensive "Southern Front" for NATO fighters, but as usual it's probably wildly overambitious. Once I get the capital cities for each nation plotted and a runway for each nation, I'd be happy to hand it over to whoever wants to take it further, if anyone ;-) But at least I can fly that nice Swiss DLC Hunter from its home base ;-) -

column5 was working on an Adriatic map which would cover the region nicely. . . http://combatace.com/topic/40575-terrain-gurus-look-here-plz-adriatic-map/page__st__20__hl__+column5?do=findComment&comment=288582 But I don't know if that project was shelved indefinitely? Certainly looks like it would have been a great map, and a lot of work had gone into it. -

Hi there, I just wanted to say, I didn't mean to be cheeky or anything like that, it's just that terrain building can be quite time-consuming so calling on volunteers to get it done is probably not going to get you very far - most folks who do it usually have a project or three on the go (I know I do, some of which will hopefully see the light of day . . .sometime ;-) ) On the other hand, it is a good idea for a campaign, so I don't want to discourage you. Gepard has said that he built his Israel terrain from scratch because he wanted to fly over Israel and no-one else was building it, so he did it for himself. Of course, that was a long time before SF2:I, or even WoI, but you get the idea that, if you want something like that done, often the best way is to take a crack at it yourself. Seriously, take a read at Gepard's tutorials, and if you work through them in turn they will enable you to get a basic terrain build together. After that, just keep on tweaking, and tweaking, and tweaking. . . If you have any questions about how it all works, take a read in the KB, and if it's not there, ask away. Slainthe, Baltika -

Individual speech packs for different nations

If you look in the download for my WW2 British speechpack, you will see a spreadsheet file that contains all of that information for the TW speech files, cross-referenced against the name of the wav file. So it's already been done. And yes, listening to and taking notes on the 500 or so sound clips was exactly how I did it. . . Slainthe! Baltika -

July Update is Released : Discuss
Baltika replied to SkateZilla's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - General Discussion
Update:- Running the NA campaign using the SF2NA exe, I am getting more like 35-40 FPS over Iceland, but we always knew that terrain was a resource hog. On a more positive note, running a strike mission on the Kiev battlegroup, 6 of my flight of 8 A-7s were hit by ship-launched SAMs, including me. I think some tweaking of the SAM behaviour has been going on, but probably more testing is required. Still not seeing any stutters using avionics60. -
July Update is Released : Discuss
Baltika replied to SkateZilla's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - General Discussion
Just installed the July patch, positive response from me so far. The FPS issues I have been having are now completely gone. Pre-July patch I was getting continual microstutters, and an average FPS of 25-30, with dips into the teens, no matter what in-game graphics settings I used. I have run several missions with the new patch, and I am getting rock-solid 60 FPS with everything set to unlimited ingame, at 1920x1080. I have set AA to 8x CSAA and forced Vsync on through nvidia control panel, so my framerate is limited by my monitor refresh rate. I also used the nvidia panel to set triple buffering and threaded optimisation on. I am running a stock combined install of all the SF2 games, plus both expansion packs and a few DLC planes. I ran my test missions using Stary's enhanced Germany tileset, otherwise no mods. I am also one of the lucky ones who do not seem to be affected by the avionics60.dll issue, I have tested it out on July patch with AA and AG radar running, no stutters. @Pureblue, I know TK has not posted a reply to the avionics60 thread over at TW boards, but on facebook he answered the question by saying they are still looking into what causes it, so it seems he is aware of the issue and trying to pin it down. I would be interested to know if those who have tried the new patch see a similar FPS boost to the one I have seen. Cheers all, Baltika -

Good point Kevin In fact, the whole terrain needs some TOD love, but I regard that as a second sweep issue, after HFD, TFD, and targetisation ARGH Would help if anyone had Polak's Texturelist.ini for his PR desert terrain, means I wouldn't have to reinvent the wheel for all his cool buildings. . .
