I've noticed the same effect. Only a rear hit with the IRMs cause damages to aircraft. Hitting an enemy on the nose when he is approaching you has no effect.

Some ANG KC-135R skins I've been working on: Wisconsin ANG 128th ARW: Nebraska ANG 155th ARW: Iowa ANG 185th ARW: Illinois 126th ARW: Credit for the tail art on the Illinois ANG aircraft goes to the original package creators...I simply copy/pasted on to the 'R' model tail from the 'E' model tail.
