Looks like the nose of a sub to me, but as mentioned it could be anything because of the way the shot was staged to hide details.

DLC 008 is out! J 34 Hunter F.50 Swedish Air Force
JediMaster replied to logan4's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - General Discussion
For which new planes he'll be making, I'm sure that poll gives you the indication of what's next. I can't imagine there being enough demand for a 104S anyway. -
Yes, because FPS games to the contrary, shooting someone in the foot with a powerful gun won't kill them. Shooting them 4 more times there will also not cause them to drop dead, although I suppose they could eventually bleed out. However, I would think shooting both arms would indeed stop that trigger finger, or at least prevent any sort of holding/aiming of a weapon. Not that it's so easy to shoot someone in the arm on purpose.

High humidity? There's something I wouldn't have thought would be a cause of a compressor stall. Not in Russia, anyway. In Africa or Vietnam or South America, maybe...

I think the problem people have is when they see people using them that are then spending the money they do have on unnecessary things. In other words, they're getting the iphones and cigarettes and beer on their own money because they have the food stamps to pay for the stuff they need to eat. Meanwhile, those making too much for that, yet still not making that much, have to forego getting the luxuries because they have to pay their $100/week for food.

Yes, some are that stupid unfortunately.

Was that from the aborted takeoff? I heard there was an engine problem that caused it, but WHOA...

Early A-6 w/movable tailpipes.

I think the biggest problem would be asymmetrical thrust...if one stuck down and the other up, especially on takeoff... -
I'm not saying it might not be a good thriller, just that the only people who could believe that conspiracy about another Apollo mission are those who've never seen a real launch!

IIRC, during Vietnam more MiGs were killed by B-52s than B-52s were killed by MiGs.

Wasn't there another incident with the Red Arrows suffering losses not too long ago? Or am I recalling something else?

That's probably Sukhoi's solution to the "nodding" intakes of the past, like the F-15, or complex internal ramps. Both the latter methods would make for stealth-compromising features. By doing the flap, they can use it when stealth isn't needed (like during intense turns) or lock it when it is (during approach to targets) keeping the stealth high. The B-2 does the same thing with a "high stealth" mode that limits the motions of its control surfaces.

Well, if a Chinese pilot collides with it there's fewer people for us to worry about. -
Depends on your definition of "similar goals." In fact, the goal of the Buran is closer to what the X-38 is doing now for the USAF...a military spaceplane. That's not what the STS was, but you couldn't convince the Soviet leadership of that in the late 70s/early 80s, so Buran resulted.

Upgraded Indian AF MiG-29B - First Pic!
JediMaster replied to ghostrider883's topic in Military and General Aviation
I was wondering what language the cockpit controls are in? Are all Indian planes done in the same language, or do they vary? -
Pakistani pilot writes after 46 years to daughter of Indian pilot he shot down
JediMaster replied to ghostrider883's topic in Military and General Aviation
Well, it's possible his superiors going up the chain knew about the plane, but I doubt he did. He was just another pilot given an unfortunate order. Things like pursuing over a border or firing despite an attempt to land is all irrelevant because he was ordered to shoot it down. It's on his superiors' heads because they knew what the plane was doing (as relayed by the pilot) and, possibly, what the plane really was, and ordered it anyway. Had the pilot been told to investigate an unknown contact and decided to shoot it down without asking for clarification and despite the actions of the other plane, then I would say it was on him. -
DLC #007 is out!
JediMaster replied to Gocad's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - General Discussion
That would be more useful in Arma2. Imagine driving your truck around the countryside, getting ambushed, and jumping into the trailer, deploying your jet and bugging out! -
Aug 2011 Update is out!
JediMaster replied to ValAstur's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - General Discussion
You can't install the DLC without the updates, you can update without the DLC just fine. -
You can't make any launch from the Cape secret. The S5 was never used for anything but Apollo and Skylab. There were no alternate S5 launch sites, just the Cape. The only possibility is saying a Skylab launch was actually 18, and that would be bizarre. It would have been long after 17, for one, and too many people are involved in a launch that none of them would've said anything for years about the fact that they didn't ready a small station but actually another lander. So while it might be a fun thing to watch, expect nothing "realistic."

I thought the gap from H&D1 to H&D2 was long (anyone get the expansion for 2? Sabre Squad? great stuff), but H&D2 is now what, 6+ years old? They made Mafia 2, which offers some hope, but I fear H&D3 might just be CoD:WaW2 from a different developer...

One problem with a Vietnam FPS is I don't think you could really do it better than VC1. Sure you could give it better graphics, but that's about it. The sound, atmosphere, story, and levels presented pretty much covered it all at the best level imaginable. Anything else would be, well, VC2 without bugs at best! I mean, every other conflict pretty much had multiple terrain types and missions. Nam is jungle fighting, tunnel crawling, and what, hilltop defense? You play the best WWII ones like Hidden and Dangerous or even the early MOH and CoD titles (pre consolizing) and there's just so much to cover between the 3 continents and island hopping.

There are no new ideas. It's all old ones dressed up in shiny trappings as if they're new. The only question is how well the old idea is dressed up and if it's worth seeing.

Indeed. Unfortunately, in the current world of 24hr news cycles, in just 6 months it will be more "history" than anything else. Since it doesn't affect the economy, China, or who will win which upcoming election, it will just be another bullet point on "things that happened in 2011".
-
When I say "idea" I mean "got off their asses and built one." Talk is just talk, it means little. As for why some seem so willing to start a fight with China, I think it has 2 aspects. One, it's the "America first" mentality taken to the extreme that we must STAY the biggest military force. They can accept China being physically larger with more people and land, but not that there's a country out there (other than Russia w/its nukes) that we can't say jump and get a "how high?" response. Two, it's the communist thing. If China was a big happy democracy like India, you'd see a lot less gnashing of teeth. After all, while India isn't an ally, it's also not a rival. We have some overlapping interests, some competing ones, but no one would ever imagine us fighting each other...perhaps it's the British colonial connection? The idea that a communist country could ever surpass the US in economic and/or military strength after just a few decades is galling to them. Hopefully, no one that feels that way will be in any position of real power or influence for the forseeable future.
