And she is down for the last time...
JediMaster replied to Slartibartfast's topic in Military and General Aviation
Actually, IIRC it's not the S5 plans that are missing, it's the tooling. I guess the plans talk about how to make the parts using specific tooling settings. The problem is the tooling was scrapped long ago and no plans exist to rebuild it. So the plans for the S5 might as well be written in Elvish for all the good they'll do. -
http://www.nasa.gov/multimedia/imagegallery/image_feature_2014.html A pretty good angle there.

New IL2 game
JediMaster replied to xclusiv8's topic in IL-2 Series / Pacific Fighters / Cliffs of Dover: General Discussion
I've got it, but I've had only mere minutes with it so far. Flew a lone Spit over water and it flew fine. Will get more into it this weekend. -
It's worse than that, it's physics, Jim!

Nope, they're being gutted for display to take all the dangerous stuff out. In theory you could reverse it, but it would be more or less impractical. Besides, they're not making more tanks or boosters or engines (which only get used I think 10 times max) so even if it could there'd be nothing to take it up there. -
Speculation - Next Payware A/C... A-1H/J?

That's always an issue. I was playing Black Shark the other night and got a good look at the H-53 model in game...ugh. It might be from Flanker 2, but certainly no later than LOMAC's first release. -
Yes, he played Maltz, the only one who lives. "Wait! You said you would kill me." "I lied."

I still think it a shame that the X-33 program was trashed when it held such promise. But, oh no, we're having trouble getting the fuel tanks right. Really? Kill the whole thing then! -
TK makes a poll at Thirdwire
JediMaster replied to Gepard's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - General Discussion
Am I the only one who thinks improving the game message displays is the single GREATEST need the SF2 series has? Yes? Probably, as I actually do not think that at all. -

Well the difference is the F1 doesn't exist from him yet (as opposed to 3rd party ones) while the MiGs do exist, just without cockpits or "refined" flight models. -

I still think TK should make a red expansion. He's already got a ton of planes made, just add cockpits for all the red side planes and sell it as SF2: Red Flood or something. -
Yes, Blazing Saddles would never see the light of day.

ROF is a current game, that's old hardware you have. You will not be able to run it totally maxed @ 60Hz unless your monitor is at 1024x768 or something. However, it should run fine if you lower some of the options.
-
I think that would be too obvious.

I remember seeing that film in the theater and ROFLMAO for the entire thing. Too few comedies are like that anymore.

Well, the only thing I've noticed so far is no DLC plane has needed a pit ie the pit has been reused from a previously included plane. In fact, I thought TK said specifically no DLC plane will have a "new" cockpit, which I took to mean totally new planes will be the realm of expansions or full titles only. The DLC planes are more "official mods for people that don't want to bother with mods". I had to change the name of my old MF Mirage III when I got TK's DLC because they had the same name (although the folder name was different) so I could tell which was which in the game itself! I just stuck an MF at the end like they did with some of those other planes they'd done in the past. -
Strike Fighter 3?
JediMaster replied to famine's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - General Discussion
Tomcat will be SF2 at its core, hence its ability to merge with it. TK has mentioned the idea of a separate non-moddable SF with MP in the future, or perhaps an add-on that is only MP (no other planes, terrains, or features, just spending money so you can play MP), but the only thing he's said for certain is no free patch for SF2 that adds it. -
Actually, I was expecting his response to Kirk's "just gimme a minute!" was going to be "Ah....okeedoke!"

33rd Fighter Wing Gets First F-35
JediMaster replied to Dave's topic in Military and General Aviation
The F/A-18 can't do Mach 2 and has never had to, so I don't think that's a big concern. -
Give me Genesis!!!! Kirk to Enterprise, beam Peter Gabriel, Phil Collins, Mike Rutherford, Tony Banks, and Stephen Hackett here immediately. You want Ant Phillips too, Kruge?

Have I been missing something?
JediMaster replied to Gr.Viper's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - General Discussion
Are you sure that's not after mission success/fail called? In theory all planes not currently engaged should RTB when that happens (even though IRL the enemies wouldn't know and wouldn't leave just because you blew up that fuel tank). -
Except if they're a murderer, would you like to be their next target?

Why Jar Jar Binks is cool, and George Lucas is a genius
JediMaster replied to Baltika's topic in The Pub
There were plenty of adults in the 70s who never cared for the original trilogy either. -
The issue of frequency deconfliction is very complicated and, of course, classified. The last thing you want an enemy to know is how much trouble your countermeasures cause to yourself!

33rd Fighter Wing Gets First F-35
JediMaster replied to Dave's topic in Military and General Aviation
When was the last time we faced anyone with the ability to even match our numbers, let alone have a majority? Sure, on paper some countries have more planes, but they're never able to get them all in the air where they need to be. What good is having X number of planes if half aren't mission capable between problems with engines, radar, weapons, etc? The very idea that we'd have like 3 F-35s facing 20 Flankers is absurd. We don't get into those situations.
