SF2 Series UPDATE ALERT!
JediMaster replied to Crusader's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Whether the game runs in DX9 or DX10 is determined by the .ini file. It was probably changed by the patch, you'll have to change it back if you want to run it in DX9. -
Boeing 787 First Flight IMMINENT
JediMaster replied to DWCAce's topic in Military and General Aviation
Apparently it's a 5 hr test flight, so it's still up there. -
Leisure Suit Tiger Woods works, actually.

How do you end WWIII?
JediMaster replied to Hairog's topic in IL-2 Series / Pacific Fighters / Cliffs of Dover: General Discussion
Well...it certainly sounds fitting for Stalin's end!! -
Repair usually works fine, not sure why you're getting this problem. Are you stripped down to one DVD and one HDD only? More than that can cause issues with selecting the proper boot device, so make sure you have no USB HDDs hooked up or flash drives or anything.

Boeing 787 First Flight IMMINENT
JediMaster replied to DWCAce's topic in Military and General Aviation
FYI, 12/15 is the date I've seen. They're doing their best to fly now because I'm sure they need it to fly before the end of the year or the "analysts" will say "mean things" and cause their stock to drop. -

I could see perhaps nuking Stalingrad, but killing Stalin wouldn't be easy thanks to his paranoia keeping only the most loyal close to him. -
Yes, back in the Win98 days! However, I think it still has a pretty active modding community last I heard.
-
I know many people who have turned off UAC totally because they hate the nagging, and also use an admin account as their primary ie they like things the way they were in Win98 and don't want to deal with "security." I tell them it's not a good idea, but people care about convenience first.

And the 787 is due to make its maiden flight at 10am PST today...

Noob Jet Jockey...bit of advice please?
JediMaster replied to UK_Widowmaker's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
You can't say without knowing what time frame you most care about. If you're interested in the post-Nam era, you need the F-14, F-18, MiG-23s, etc. If you care about the post-Korea era, there's a whole other batch of mods. If you want to go post-Cold War, you need the MiG-29, Su-27, F-22, F-35, Super Hornet, etc. The WOV ground and air expansion I think is a must-have for WOV, actually. An all-in-one mod with separate NV and SV terrains and tons of planes, ground objects, weapons, and campaigns. If WOV and WOI are all you have, I don't think you can get NATO Fighters 4 or ODS which I believe both need WOE. -
So...they invade AK and HI only, right? Because let's face it, it's pure SF if NK gets any further than that.
-
"Another"? As in "another that will never be released"?? I still wish the FPS had been finished. I never cared about the MMO. If a TPS gets released, well, I'll need a demo as I don't usually care for those games. Great for Tomb Raider, Thief, and Splinter Cell, but not so much that abortion that was Ghost Recon 2.
-
Well, how else are you going to pay for all the useless crap you want to do at home?
-
Don't forget the problems stemming from the purely political decision to go with an all-new Euro engine for the 400M after the Canadian engine actually won.

Of course, what baffles me is that we bought more F-15s and F-16s than we planned...we just kept building them. All of a sudden now we've got programs where the total number is decided before production starts, then is cut, then cut again, then at the end the line is shutdown and you're left with no way to get anymore unless you start a whole new program that will cost you more than just buying more of the original design in the first place.

Jetting Through the Grand Canyon
JediMaster replied to bwild's topic in Military and General Aviation
Rockets sound like a long, rolling peal of thunder that gets louder before it gets softer. Sometimes it shakes the house, sometimes you can barely hear it, sometimes you're not sure that's what you're hearing or not. It all depends on weather/atmospheric conditions, really. -
Of course, that just makes each one cost more. Whatever.
-
They don't need the extra loiter time there, but it's possible they've altered them to carry other stuff.
-
Um...well, so far everything I've tried works, but I'm not sure if they run better or not. I'd say everything seems comparable, anyway.

It was almost 20 years ago (1991? 1992?) I met the naval officer who was in charge of the USS Nevada and made the decision to beach her during the attack. The captain wasn't aboard at the time, and didn't get there till after the attack ended. He was in his 80s at the time, so I'm sure he's long gone now. His part was in Tora, Tora, Tora, briefly seen as they decide to beach it when it looks like they'll sink in the channel. I can't remember his name now...I think it was Tomlinson? He was called "Tommy", but I'm not sure if that was his real first name or merely a nickname based on his last.

Massive campaign using most of the maps and lots of jets
JediMaster replied to Hairog's topic in IL-2 Series / Pacific Fighters / Cliffs of Dover: Mission & Campaign Building
Have you considered consolidating this into story form? Alternate WWII history scenarios are very popular reading. You could call it "the novelization of the sim". -
I work in IT, and there are some software programs that would make our jobs 10x easier and websites with resources that would make it 50x easier...we're not allowed access to either because they're "not authorized". Instead, we either should simply explain to the user they're screwed and wipe and reload the system or make them keep using it broke.

You've got a PCI express slot, but I don't know how powerful your PSU is which will likely be the limiting factor on how powerful a video card you can get. The fact that it's MicroATX suggests a small case as well. I'd say any second-line card should do okay, no point in a top-end card as your CPU and PSU won't use it to its max potential. Something like a Geforce 9600/9800 or Radeon 4670/4770/3850, around that range, should do you well.
