It's sort of funny to credit them for something that was nigh-on impossible for them to do given the technical abilities of the times. However, there's one good rule of thumb...if your shot consists of only 1 ship there's a larger chance of a nebula of some sort being in the frame to help break up the monotony. If there's a larger number of ships, the chances of there being a simple starfield go up with each extra ship added.

Seems they don't want to offend future customers by admitting that!

Uploading NF4+ Now
JediMaster replied to Dave's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - Mission & Campaign Building Discussion
It's $6.95 for just a single month, but it's not $84/year. Like most everything else, you buy in bulk and the rate for each one is lower. -
They strafe horses, don't they?

The funny thing is their answer there gives no reason as to why BFBC1 wasn't on the PC. Was the PC less powerful then? Were they NOT a former PC-only dev then? They only wanted BFBC1 to be shared with a limited number of people before? They totally evaded that last "when you failed" part of the question.

CFS3 for $9.99... is it worth it?
JediMaster replied to malibu43's topic in General Flight Sim Discussion
CFS3 was built on the same engine as one of the MSFS releases, I forget which one. Anyway, it's very moddable as the mods that are out demonstrate, however I can't testify as to how "easy" or "hard" it is to make mods for. All I know is to install them is pretty simple. -

Well DCS itself was delayed for years because of their other work. Then they decided that DCS was more important as it would be a product that would bring in revenue while a LOMAC patch, let's face it, won't cause anyone to go out and buy LOMAC/FC anymore. It's more a "faithful customer reward" than anything else. -
Very Very Sad News

It seems like only yesterday we lost +G over at SimHQ, he was only 43 I think, to a heart attack. It's such a tragedy and English is such a lousy language to express it. -

If it was just one of them, I'd say it was a fluke. I'd have to say after using Russian software products for over a decade now that it may instead just be a cultural thing. They may honestly just not think of these issues in the same manner as we do, hence they'll upgrade things like graphics and flight modeling whilst in other areas there has been no change whatsoever...after all, why would they try to fix something they didn't think was broken? I also don't know what the disconnect is, let alone how to resolve it. -
They just need to fine them, big time. That's the solution for criminals and other lowlifes who have money, just take it from them and don't bother crowding the jails and costing US money.

I don't know where in Miami it could've been done, there's no space left to build anything and nothing already there is really suitable.

Let's not forget CoD only succeeded because of MOHAA's success back in 02, which gave IW the ability to make CoD1 in the first place. However, it's not at all unusual now for a dev or publisher to take a series created and profited off of PCs and move over to consoles and pay lip service, if that, to the new PC versions.

Independent startup for high end HOTAS
JediMaster replied to streakeagle's topic in Game Controllers
A lefty throttle might be too much because you'd have to move the pivot, or rotate the base 180 and move the cord to the other side. Since you said you're offering the stick alone without it, though, it would just be another handle. -
Boeing and LockMart are in the same group as Saab when it comes to having to deal with that issue. That gives the MiG a considerable boost in this competition, yet at the same time the pricing issues with the whole Gorshkov deal may well counter that. Only the Typhoon seems to have none of these political downsides, but I'm not sure it's proven multirole enough for their requirements plus it has yet to have an AESA enter production (another requirement) while most of the others have.

Oh, you could also go on the "Internet" and find every other plane that ever flew! After all, I really want *insert name of random plane that flew between 1960 and 1975 here* to be in this! -

This isn't a unique issue for them. I've noticed many Russian developers seem to be engineers only...they know how to make the software work to do what they want it to do, they just miss what the public at large wants the software to do. Not to pick on any one of them, but I don't think I've seen one Russian sim with a decent UI. At best they're serviceable, at worst they're almost impossible to use. I think what they need is a Western consultant that they LISTEN to. You know, they should program the way they're best at, but they need to look at things that aren't going over so well and ask for some help there. Maybe contract out the UIs to a Western programmer? Perhaps a discussion on the marketing side about not only how to get people to want to buy their product but how to make their product something people want to buy! -

Let's face it, LOMAC is an old sim now. Hasn't even had an update in years, the last was a compatablity fix for SF for Vista released not long after Vista was. However, Wags did list a 1.13 patch as a "to do" along with A-10 for DCS, so who knows? I still fly it on occasion, a few times a month. Although I prefer flying the F-15 in the TW sims, the A-10, Su-27/33, MiG-29, and Su-25/T are still top notch, especially the 25T. -

Cant get AA to work
JediMaster replied to xclusiv8's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
I'm using the 182s right now I think for my GTX 260. I tried upgrading to the 191's last week, but I lost all FSAA in my TW sims as well as several other games. I quickly used XP's system restore to get back to the 182s and I've not tried again. I just installed the 191s over the top of the 182s and didn't do a complete uninstall/reinstall. Maybe I'll try that this weekend. Right now, I guess the question is if anyone is using the 191s with their nvidia cards in the TW sims and getting FSAA to work? -

Yeah, that gives a good baseline as to what you'll be offering vs the others out there. People sick of pots that don't care about/for FFB or strain gauge and already have a set of USB pedals from CH or Saitek should take note! Some people love the complicated programming of some HOTAS, but personally I've always just taken someone else's profile and made a couple changes here and there...I want to fly, not code! Oh, since you're going to be making a number of handles, might I suggest a mirror one for the lefties out there that won't use a righty stick? I doubt they'll get the throttle, but right now only things like the Saitek Evo that are symmetrical are available to them. A lefty version of an F-16 stick, while looking totally wrong, will function the same.
