PAK FA Exposed in MAKS 2009
JediMaster replied to Silverbolt's topic in Military and General Aviation
I spent hours playing F-19 on my 8088 for years until I got my 386. Then it finally played like it was supposed to (it took me 30 mins instead of 2 hrs to fly a mission!) but I also started getting newer better sims like SWOTL and Falcon 3. -
If Independence Day took place during WWI...

Home on jam. The missile forgoes using a radar lock and instead locks onto the ECM emissions of the target.

Yak-38 FTW!!!!!!

PAK FA Exposed in MAKS 2009
JediMaster replied to Silverbolt's topic in Military and General Aviation
The plan view looks odd, like the first F-117 pic that was released was. I think there was a mistranslation there, as I think the T-50 is a priority for the aviation industry, but I'm pretty sure irrelevant to the airline industry. -
Oh, in that second pic I can just make out the fin of an AA-12 next to that X-59MK2.

That South Park episode riffing on Heavy Metal was great, and it had the car and bombers in it, too.
-
It's no sim in particular, this is a discussion about the real thing. However, you can fly the B-47, A-5A, and A-6A and drop nukes in the Thirdwire sims (with the appropriate mods for it).

I believe it was proven beyond a reasonable doubt by the World Court at The Hague that there is no good pun.

I've learned pretty much any day I debate whether or not to go to work...I shouldn't go, because it's guaranteed to be a sucky day.
-
I don't think it's even had a public rollout yet. First flight is still slated for the end of this year I believe.

...and knowing is half the battle!

I listen to whatever. Soundtracks (including classical scores), hard rock, oldies, alternative...anything! Good music is good music.

TWS is track while scan and RWS is range while scan. VSR is something about velocity, I never use it, nor LRS, so I don't recall. AIM-120 and AIM-9 both have a range scale on the right side of the HUD, with 2 nested brackets and a little tick that moves down the side. When inside the larger bracket you're in theoretical range to hit. Inside the smaller bracket you're in the ideal range aka "no escape zone." TEWS shows radars looking at you. Planes like A-10 and Su-25 have no radar, so they can't show there. Also, it's based on type of radar, not literal plane, so you will for example notice the Su-33SM shows as "30" and the Su-27 and MiG-29 I believe are both "29" since they share the same radar.

Il-2:46 is the newest WWII sim there is I believe. Its successor won't be out for awhile yet. There's also Battle of Britain 2, which is older than Il-2 but newer than CFS3. All of them are far more realistic than the Il-2 console demo version by default, but I think there are settings in the full game to make it less arcade like. I still remember 10 years ago we had WWII sims coming out every month. That all stopped just a few years later.

There was a song by The Cramps called Bikini Girls with Machine Guns. The video was hilarious.

I always laugh at the things TDS manages to dig up. The way these so-called "news" (and I use that term more loosely than anything could be) commentators outright contradict themselves depending on whether they're talking about someone on "their side" or the "other side" is amazing. The double standard is alive and well on the 24 hr "news" stations. They have no one else taking them to task for changing their stripes, unfortunately.

Or you could take a picture of an explosion and make the ringtone "SAM launch! SAM launch!"

Communism and fascism aren't the same kind of idealogies as eugenics or racism. An economic ideology is most certainly not a threat. The idea that the US was going to become communist in the 1950s was absurd because it couldn't unless the gov't allowed/forced it. Some small group of citizens cannot change the entire country's economic basis. An ideology that says group X is superior to group Y in some way, based on race, nation, religion, IS a threat. That's how these Muslim fundamentalist extremists justify everything they do. "We don't attack innocents" they say. Of course, when you define every American citizen, including children, as "not innocent" because of a complicated chain of reasoning then you're redefining your terms to suit your own ideals. THAT is when the ideology becomes a threat.

Computer rig
JediMaster replied to Rickitycrate's topic in IL-2 Series / Pacific Fighters / Cliffs of Dover: General Discussion
The 8400GS isn't great, but it should be sufficient for 46 as long as you don't run at too high of a res or crank up all the details. Anything less than 1GB of RAM is also inadvisable, I'm assuming you'll be running XP and not Vista of course. If you run Vista, you need 2GB. However, I don't know what a 2350 has for a CPU and that will also have a bearing on how well it does. -
Can you honestly blame someone living in Germany for having that attitude after their recent history? As my German history professor in college said 15 years ago "my generation of Germans are the most boring people you can imagine thanks to the guilt we feel for what our parents allowed to happen."

AC-130 bags an interesting target...
JediMaster replied to Jimbib's topic in Military and General Aviation
Yes. -
I wonder what that will be

He has? That bums me out. -
I think SimHQ has been the central location for the main modding group. See here: http://forum.combatace.com/index.php?s=&am...st&p=308503

My guess is yes because those AF hooks are meant to stop the plane, not leave it in flight-ready status after use!
