India cancels $550 million attack helicopter tender
JediMaster replied to Atreides's topic in Military and General Aviation
I think Boeing has been moving too slowly. To get anything done takes them years. The delay in the K767 programs for Japan and Italy, the 787, the 747-8, on and on. I think the 777 was their last big hit. It seems buying out McD in the mid-90s really didn't help them, other than giving them things like the C-17 and F/A-18 contracts. -
India's own Air Force One

The old requirements vs politics argument. -
I think the problem is they can't figure out how to get people to pay all the time for offline only games!

New pilot, definitely not an ace...
JediMaster replied to ExitiumMachina's topic in IL-2 Series / Pacific Fighters / Cliffs of Dover: General Discussion
Your best bet is to just keep getting closer. Some aces in the wars waited until they were right on top of the enemy to conserve ammo. I've found if I don't have nose mounted guns I only may be able to hit with left or right guns, but not both...trying to center the target results in "bracketed" fire around the enemy that does little. Mostly, though, it's practice in learning how far the tracers are from you and how much lead you need to pull (assuming here you're not in a oerfect 6 shot since that rarely happens!) to hit. I've got my convergence at 400m I think, which is my max effective range for aiming. Closer than that I am more likely to hit, but again only with left or right guns, not both. -
The only issue is if you expect to be able to boot from it, and that is totally dependent on the BIOS on your mobo. Other than that, I've never seen many issues at all with any of them. In fact, in some cases I've found an external over USB2 to be FASTER than the internal one!

LOL, kill all units on the map at once, both sides. A doomsday device! -
Space Shuttles in TW sims
JediMaster replied to Jarhead1's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Well, I could see making a 747/Shuttle combo, or an An-225/Buran combo. Actually, we have a Bison now and it carried the Buran initially. Does TK's code allow for Mistel-style combinations, where you can hook 2 planes together and then detach? I think Il-2 is the only one that lets you do it right now, and it has some serious issues working right. -
someone knows?
JediMaster replied to joeroma's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Unfortunately, TK is a 1-man show and his resources are far too limited for a complex campaign like you're talking about. I also think it's not possible to mod one that way, only TK has the source code to do it. F4 was the last sim to have a campaign like that...10 years ago. You can change the loadout of each plane in your flight, though. -
Everyone calm down.

Apparently someone got tired of the Aussie gov'ts attempts to "protect the children."

PDF's suck for sims, basically. Unless you have either A) dual monitors or B) another PC to look at!

Here's what I know of Canadian: "I'm not your buddy, guy!" "I'm not your guy, friend!" "I'm not your friend, buddy!" *repeat* -
Yeah, it literally could be anything at this point, unless you notice it making a particular bad noise.

There's a thread about this in the Military and Gen Aviation forum already.

You could argue a good pilot would never get into a 1v1 guns only fight flying an F-14A.

I thought the 1500 was the centerline tank only? Now I'm confused... -
Video of the original Red Baron - GUI is terrific
JediMaster replied to SGCSG1's topic in WWI Flight Sim Discussion
That was the thing I always loved about the old Dynamix flight sims...just up on a regular mission and you never knew if you'd come up against an ace! I remember one mission in AotP flying in my F6F and merging head on with some Zero's...I fire a burst and watch the lead plane go down with a "You just shot down Saburo Sakai!" in the top of the screen! Awesome, especially as I know if I had to fight him directly it would've likely been the death of me! AoE and both Red Barons had it as well, although the RB games also featured the little "you have been challenged to a duel by ..." missions. -
I think that one and Stairway both hold that distinction for many a guitar picker!
-
Because as has been stated time and again, in a guns-only fight it's the pilot not the plane. However, in modern air combat you'll hear some pilots say it's the missile now. A good enough missile defeats everything now.

Yes, Algeria got those and liked them, unlike those Fulcrums. However, ugly never won a war or else Saddam would've taken over the Middle East in the 80s with ease.

I think Steel Beasts Pro PE or something like that is the tops for tank sims right now. The problem is it's totally bare-bones. It has no campaign and the only thing you can do is single missions, either offline or online. So the missions need to be made for it as it comes with barely any. That said, it's like the Falcon 4 of tank sims and easily makes WOV look like Ace Combat. The biggest downside is it costs $125. Steel Beasts is its predecessor from almost 10 years ago now and is indeed VERY outdated with 640x480 res max. On the plus side, it runs on really old PCs.
