AIR REFUELING
JediMaster replied to Veltro2k's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - Mods/Skinning Discussion
Like some others here, I don't care about it nor would I pay more for JUST that, but I think the option should be available for those who want it as long as it's not cost-prohibitive for TK to implement it. In short, I've no problem with extra features being added that I will never use as long as it doesn't cost me anything or preclude a more useful feature (like aforementioned avionics or others) from being created! -
I've heard some people sold theirs used for $100 or so, but the cheapest I've seen them new is $225 and I don't race enough to justify that. My $70 Momo was far more reasonably priced.

Basically for my 6 month-old to get older and out of the "needs hours of attention every day" phase! Did I ever mention I only got maybe 5 hrs in phase 1? I don't even remember if I've ever gotten around to installing phase 2, actually... Just aren't enough hours in the day or days in the week.

Head injuries can be like that. That's why the resort insisted someone stay with her for quite a long time and kept asking her to see a doctor. Could she have been saved had she gone immediately? We can't say at this point, we may never be able to. The tragedy is how preventable it was.

I don't think the term "pointless" applies enough to a death like this. It's not like she was a life-long skiier that loved it, she was just trying it for the first time in a "maybe I'll like this" sort of way. I feel for Liam and their sons.

Now we're hearing rumors that the new tanker competition may be postponed indefinitely...because the 135s are still all in great shape!! Really! They are! Pay no attention to that human beer tanker behind the curtain!

Boeing unveils new F-15 Silent Eagle
JediMaster replied to Silverbolt's topic in Military and General Aviation
A plane like that is a good idea at the same time you start hanging pylons on the F-22s and F-35s...when the major SAM threats are neutralized. Remember, the F-15 isn't worried about other planes, it's worried about SAMs! In fact, it would be interesting to see what has a bigger RCS--a "silent Eagle" with its missiles inside the CFTs, or an F-22 or F-35 carrying external stores under the wings. -
how to find my parking area?
JediMaster replied to ron9093's topic in Digital Combat Simulator Series General Discussion
Unless there are AI planes in your flight that you can follow, there's no way I know of to figure that out. I just look for the closest one to the end of the runway I stopped at. -
LOL, no, a stick is NOT recommended. I last raced with a stick in the early 90s, when I "drove" World Circuit: Grand Prix from MPS with my CH stick. Then TM came out with the T1...the first steering wheel for the PC. I got it and never looked back! After that one broke years later, I got an MS Sidewinder wheel, then an MS FF Sidewinder wheel. I was in heaven...until the day came when gameports were useless and no gameport/USB adapter would let the FF effects work. So I tried the Act Labs wheel for a couple of months but I couldn't get into it. Then like 5 years ago I got my MOMO and I've never left!

Weapons pack and the oct.2008 update
JediMaster replied to pistitom's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
You shouldn't be putting Bunyap's or others into NF3 I don't think. Odd things are guaranteed to happen. There is a way to merge them, of course, but it's a "nontrivial exercise" to quote my old college math prof. NF3 has all the weapons and such you need for the planes it comes with. -

Ooh, that would be a tough one between ODS and NF3, actually! I'll take both, with a sprinkling of OTC, WOI, SF2, and FE please instead. -
"OpenCockpit=TRUE" RUUULZZZ!
JediMaster replied to Wrench's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - Mods/Skinning Discussion
Well like I said, I leave the cockpit on about 50% of the total time I'm in the cockpit of a given flight. I often find I have to turn it off if I want to land or taxi! I'll also turn it off in a dogfight or when attacking ground targets. For "cruising" I like it on so I can see all the instruments and things like fuel, RWR, mirrors, etc. I also use external views from time to time, probably totaling about 10% of a given flight. -

Who'da Thunk It

Maybe it's the "let's see how it would have been" factor, or the "I'm going to give myself a challenge against superior planes" factor. As for the number of DLs, maybe if people go there from the DL section and not the file announcement forum it doesn't count as a "view"? -

JediMaster replied to Wrench's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - Mods/Skinning Discussion
I use the cockpits for certain periods of flight, but during others I also turn them off. I always thought the cockpits should be on until I flew in my boss' Piper Aztec about 10 yrs ago. The front is dominated by the instrument panel, with the windows seemingly very small. Yet when you sit there and look out of it, it's like hitting the "cockpit off" switch...you don't see it all! I had the image of a wide-open expanse in front of me that seemed totally wrong if you actually looked at a pic of the way it was setup. I've not been able to find any exact pics of how his was after the GPS upgrade, but these give an idea: http://www.aerospaceweb.org/aircraft/cockpits/pa23/ Of course, you don't really see how big the windows are in those either. Here's an external pic that's also misleading, but if you look closely you will see that the lower part of the window is actually blocked from the inside. There is a lot of mental repositioning along with eyes/head to go "heads down" and look at it, and I think making cheap HUDs for GA would be a gold mine to anyone who could do it. You're guaranteed to "lose sight" if you go heads down, and that leads to "lose the fight." -
So, is this then the first combat sim to feature something every real pilot has to deal with? Interminable paperwork??!?! Call me time-challenged, but I'd just as soon have everything a real pilot has to do OUT of the cockpit done for me. I don't want to do a preflight inspection or fill out a list of problems with the plane for the crew chief either...

Boeing unveils new F-15 Silent Eagle
JediMaster replied to Silverbolt's topic in Military and General Aviation
Ok, so we've got 2 threads about this now... As I stated in the other one, just canting the vertical tails will do little to make it stealthy aside from broadside. In head-on engagements nothing has changed. An intake blocker ala Super Hornet is badly needed to fix that. -
Boeing unveils new F-15 Silent Eagle
JediMaster replied to Silverbolt's topic in Military and General Aviation
There are many USAF Eagles getting AESA radars, yes, but the rest of the plane is staying untouched. This looks like Boeing trying to make the "not quite rich enough or cleared to get Raptors" crowd. They could redesign the canopy seam, too, but it looks like they didn't. I wonder what the criteria were for how far they would go changing it? They don't mention any intake blockers like the Super Hornet has, and I would think the F-15 would be in big need of those. -

Well if it didn't have any missions it wouldn't be that interesting, would it? -
Wait, do you have a 2nd job as a human beer tanker??
