Don't recall seeing anyone from Chile here before. At least, in the non-Spanish forums. You may be the first!

IAF Su-30MKIs being retrofitted to carry cruise missiles
JediMaster replied to ghostrider883's topic in Military and General Aviation
Modifying the fuselage makes it sound like it's more trouble than it's worth. The USN never bothered to make Tomahawks air-launched. -
It's time to celebrate your birthday It happens every year We'll eat a lot of broccoli And drink a lot of beer

I mean I'd rather pay $150 than spend several of my precious few "free" hours soldering crap together.

Desert Storm Mod Update For Jan 2009
JediMaster replied to Dave's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - Mission/Campaign Building Discussion
You don't have WOE?!?!?!? ...and you call yourself a fan... -
That was great!

I've never had an accident over maybe 5 mph. None were interesting.

LOL, well for some of us a few hours IS worth $150.

While the guy no doubt was wrong, 37 years??? When people have actually KILLED people and been out in less? Really?

I think the A380's have more thrust and less noise though.

Desert Storm Mod Update For Jan 2009
JediMaster replied to Dave's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - Mission/Campaign Building Discussion
Will this be for a stock WOE with the latest patches only, or will it also work if WOV is integrated? I have a clean WOE/WOV and another with NF1 and 2 and a clean WOV, but no clean WOE. -
This reminds me of F4:AF and LP's excuses why IFF wasn't there. I don't care how complicated the real thing is, just give me the ability to query a locked radar target! The whole AWACS procedure to do it is silly.

I believe most RWR/TEWS machines have recorders so even if the crew never gets an indication in their cockpits that something is up, on return to base the techs can access that and see what happened. Only if the antennas are totally wrong for the freqs used would they get NOTHING.

Indian Air Force MiG-27 fleet upgrade complete
JediMaster replied to ghostrider883's topic in Military and General Aviation
Most planes with MFDs have analog backups. They may not be in the most convenient locations, but they're there. The only exceptions I think are the very latest fighters which rely on the computers so much anyway that it hardly matters. One of those "if the MFD is gone chances are so is the rest of the plane anyway" deals. I've never seen a plane with only ONE MFD that had no backups. Those are the ones like F-35 and RAH-66 that have multiples, so even if one failed you could look at the readouts on the others. -
These 3rd world countries often have a large number of superstitious people that think it's 1699 or something still.

Indian Air Force MiG-27 fleet upgrade complete
JediMaster replied to ghostrider883's topic in Military and General Aviation
This sounds kind of like the A-10C upgrade...pretty much 100% cockpit/avionics based, things like airframe and engine are left alone. Sounds like they're achieving some economy by using the same equipment that the Jaguar and Flanker have, always appreciated by the logistics guys. I will say this though...that cockpit looks 10x better, not least for getting rid of that lousy turquoise!! -
STRIKE FIGHTERS 2
JediMaster replied to Crusader's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
I know that was standard for the AA-6s as used by the MiG-25 and maybe the Su-15/21 as well, but I'm not so sure the practice continued into the Alamo era. -
A little bridge to hold us until 4.5 airs, SFC has made some webisodes again like they did before S3 and Razor. It doesn't look very grand in scope, but only the Razor webisodes really were.

I still haven't seen any yet, even though almost all of them have aired! The show comes back a week from Friday, too, I'm so far behind...

I don't know, that's been a problem with military sims since day 1, yet there have been ways around it. Either you approximate or you omit or you deliberately make inaccurate. Longbow 2 had the radar. Does ED really need to make something better than that, but if they can't they just won't do it? Sounds to me like the DCS series is going to be short-lived if they turn down platform after platform because of classified material.

For a second I thought Wrench wanted everyone to check their clocks because of that extra second they stuck in on New Year's...

Favorite Mods, Aircraft of 2008
JediMaster replied to Dave's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
It was a pretty good year overall, patch changes to .ini's confusion notwithstanding. -
They'd said 9 months before, so we should expect it by the end of summer. I'm not sure if the A-10A or AH-64 is due next after that, but I'd guess the A-10A since it's just a different cockpit/avionics...FM and most weapons would be identical (like the Su-25/25T in Flaming Cliffs). I don't remember if they said they were putting the Longbow radar on the 64D or not, but I hope so.
