  1. Merry Xmas you bastards!

Bizarre? It was 80F here on Xmas, like it usually is!
  2. I'm still not sure this P-8 is a good idea. I mean, a 737 to fly low and slow patrols over the water?? How did Boeing convince the USN that was a good idea??
  3. DCS: A-10C Warthog

I can't wait to FINALLY have a sim where realistic ops with both A-10s and helos can be done. Best shot previously was in a TW sim, but helos there have never really been as good as fixed wing.
  4. Americas Migs

Shhhhh!!! You'll get some rabid Aussies in here wanting it!
  5. My Grandfather has passed.....

Odd coincidence. I also lost my father's father at Xmas time, albeit in 1980. I was only 7 so I don't remember him too well.
  6. what do you want under you xmas tree.?

That's easy...I want a total sim like promised since 1991 with the release of Falcon 3. I want to fly any plane, from any country, in any era, over any part of the world, with awesome air and ground AI, full MP support (missions, random missions, campaigns) as well as excellent solo play, with near photo-real graphics, smooth performance, and fully scalable difficulty from total arcade to Falcon 4+. So, since THAT isn't going to happen, nor does Lucasarts seem inclined to make another Jedi Knight game, I figure I should hope to win the Lotto since the odds are better.
  7. Merry Xmas you bastards!

I'm Polish and no amount of money you could offer would get me to eat carp. Just reverse the a and r and you'll see what it really is.
  8. best ww2 flying thingy.?

Despite its myriad drawbacks and limitations, Il-2:46 is still the best bet. I also have a heavily modded CFS3 install on my PC, but I can't really recommend it anymore. As mentioned you can also mod any of the TW sims into a WWII-era sim complete with maps and planes and ground objects, but it's not really the easiest way to go.
  9. Well, I broke down and bought it

Yeah, I had someone tell me about that button last night. I never noticed it before, it's not as well laid out as the screen was in LOMAC, which I didn't think possible! Anyway, that's what I'll be doing this long weekend...messing with the axes to get the thing under control!
  10. Do you fly for your own country in sims?

Remember Israel itself had no problem flying former "Nazi" fighters during its war of independence against so-called "Allied" fighters. Many an Israeli 109 shot down Arab Spits.
  11. http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/28300175/ Dr McCoy's nurse, Troi's mom, and the voice of the Enterprise computer for 40 years (including recently completed work for the upcoming film), passed away of leukemia yesterday. She joins the good doctor, Scotty, and her husband Gene in "boldly going where no one has gone before."
  12. Nurse Chapel is no longer on the Enterprise

    Almost all.
  13. I don't think they unveiled the MiG 1.44 until after the 1.42 was cancelled, though, didn't they?
  14. Well, I broke down and bought it

My problems seem to happen at the instant of takeoff! It always starts to roll back onto the tail and my attempts to correct it are never good enough. A major issue I've seen is that while Flanker and LOMAC had in-game stick adjustment abilities for things like dead zone and curves, DCS does not. That means I have to do it with my Cougar software itself, which I'm far less adept at. Overall, though, it just seems far too twitchy. I almost feel like I've got a digital axis, with every push of the stick no matter how small being almost "to the stops". No other sim gives me this issue.
  15. Nurse Chapel is no longer on the Enterprise

If she sounds all computer-ized, it's from the original series. On TNG, DS9, and Voyager she spoke with her regular voice.
  16. Do you fly for your own country in sims?

I'm not saying VC didn't have flaws, but mostly it was victim of when it came out. I think 6 months earlier and it would've been seen better. It wasn't anything to see visually or technically, but after the first couple of levels, if you toughed it out, you really got drawn in. Booby traps, tunnels, arty, grenades, wading waist-deep thru rivers at night, actually having a squad you could give orders too that had personalities and roles... Oh, a major reason I fly for other countries is because I dislike going fantasy by flying things like US-flagged Flankers or Me-262s. I want to fly plane X, and if it was only flown by country Z, then that's who I'll fly for. Flying a 262 against He-111s is just wrong, like flying a P-51 against B-17s.
  17. Top part of main menu is cut-off

I've not really heard of any issues with specific monitors. Do you have the driver for your monitor itself installed, or are you just using "plug n play"? That could help.
  18. Well, I broke down and bought it

I'm still trying to get a handle on the...handling. It seems after about 5 minutes I'm totally out of control.
  19. Anybody here play Homeworld 2?

No, but now I wish I'd gotten HW2 all those years ago with these great mods out there.
  20. Help with russian

I took more years of Spanish than I can remember, but I've had little use for it in the last 7 years or so and I've forgotten a lot. I still can get the gist of what a given sentence means, but sometimes I miss the nuances. I can read it better than hear it due to all the different accents for Spanish. Cuban can be a real pain to the ear with how they drop their d's. They don't say "ustedes"...they say "uste-es". However, I don't really try to speak or write it at all.

I don't know, I think Vietcong was a great FPS. It gave you the feeling of being there better than any game before or since (BFV was fun, but had little atmosphere) without demonizing the VC or praising the US. It was a well-balanced portrayal, perhaps because the developers were Eastern European and had little in the way of personal feelings about it themselves?
  22. Nurse Chapel is no longer on the Enterprise

No, I didn't forget her B5 role, I just was listing her ST stuff only. B5 and ST:TOS are the only SF series I own in entirety other than SG-1 and Firefly, so I'm well acquainted with her work!
  23. JSF for RAAF

It depends on your outlook. If it's to replace the F-111, it's not a perfect match. If it's to replace the F/A-18s Oz already has, it's better all the way around. However, the 111 is a Nam-era plane. In a low-threat environment it's great, but not against modern fighters and double-digit SAMs. Oh, that story about the F-35 being interecepted is crap. No F-35 has flown outside of the US yet, so unless they were flying in the US, there's no way. The only thing unusual flown in that area recently was the Global Hawk, which was being demo'd to Australia. It's possible they ran an intercept on that, and I can see why the other nations around might not have bothered.
  24. JSF for RAAF

I don't recall if it was a "buy" or a "lease until whatever we pick gets here."
  25. Growing up in Miami, I've seen many a film and TV show filmed in my home town. From the good (Miami Vice) to the bad (Holy Man) to the ugly (The Specialist). It loses its appeal after awhile! However, Shaun and HF are 2 of my favorite Brit (non Python) comedies. I can't wait to see what they do next. Oh, and I mean to check out their old series, Spaced, that I've never seen.
