They already did the BevHills a few years ago. Jim Varney played Jed.

Not so sure about the shuttle myself. I've got the feeling zero g might make me nauseous.

The KB obsession
JediMaster replied to Crusader's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
I think it's natural that those who've put a lot of time and effort into making it would feel slighted when that work is ignored or put down. Just look how many modders quit this series over the rivet counting and generally ungrateful reception their free work received. In a sense, the KB is itself a mod, it's just not one you can DL and install. It is however something you use to make the game more enjoyable, ergo it's a mod. I can't argue that there have been some disproportionate responses at times, but perhaps there's a general lack of consideration of the KB's existence over all. We'd basically like the KB to be the first place people check for info rather than the last! We've been trying to figure out how to raise people's awareness of it, and some are more than a little frustrated. -
Adding planes to Wings Over Israel
JediMaster replied to eliahu2006's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Yeah, you have to use the .CAT extractor on one sim to pull out the necessary files to move the plane to the other. In essence, you're creating your own 3rd party plane to install into WOI from the files of the previous sim. -

In other news, Elizabeth II is now Queen of England. -
They have? I've not tried in forever to get there. If so, though, that is sad news. Well, I just tried it at http://www.lead-pursuit.com/news.htm and it works fine. Not updated in 2 months or so, but it's working.

Combat medics the world over face this dichotomy, it's nothing new. -
Israel's F-16I fleet is grounded...

Back when the B-52s were built nothing was known to be harmful about asbestos. It was used as a fire break in everything. -
Beats me! I've taken off lots of times, haven't managed a vertical landing YET. I just do rolling landings on airfields.

FC big problem
JediMaster replied to raf1659's topic in Digital Combat Simulator Series General Discussion
1.12b is the Vista patch, 1.12a is the XP patch. I'm not sure what happens if you use the wrong one, frankly. I'm running 1.12a on my XP machine. -
LOMAC Reality Check
JediMaster replied to SJPhantom's topic in Digital Combat Simulator Series General Discussion
Game made by Russian developers. I think they get better info about Russian equipment than American, plus their own biases are going to mean a situation like you describe (F-15 losing 8 out of 10 times) will not be seen as unusual. That said, there are acknowledged problems with the BVR missile modeling that causes imbalances. Maybe we'll get a 1.13 to patch it someday, but no word yea or nay at this point. -
Israel's F-16I fleet is grounded...
JediMaster replied to Nesher's topic in Military and General Aviation
It would be pretty slow-acting and low-impact if it was. I can't picture them bothering. Besides, if you can accomplish that you could just as easily place a bomb or sabotage some equipment for a more spectacular result. Terrorists want to induce terror, and frankly the possibility you might develop cancer years later after prolonged exposure just doesn't do that. -

The US has a consistent track record of allying with the wrong countries just because they also oppose someone we oppose. It's expedient, but it's not right, and it often has bad repercussions later on. -
As long as you aren't trying to pass it on to the locals I guess...

Ving Rhames could do it, he's done some great comedic stuff like in "I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry".

Carrier landings
JediMaster replied to Brainless's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - Mission/Campaign Building Discussion
I'm guessing you're taking his "fly to the point you want to park" literally. I doubt he was being precise. It's probably more a comment on the slow approach speed compared to land ops, nothing more. As for the slowing down of the carrier, I don't see anything unusual about that. U-2 ops were not common, but the exception, and I'm sure special adjustments were made for them. -
If it doesn't bother you, than don't worry about it! Some people obsess over getting a game to play on the highest possible settings without bothering to see what they gain from it. A 1% increase in your perceived visual experience for a 25% decrease in performance just doesn't add up.

I don't think that one's ready for primetime. It would still need years of development. Besides, other than STOVL and supersonic ability, it has none of the JSF's other features: stealth (not ANY) AESA internal weapons bays (stealth and drag reduction) carrier ability (you can carry more a farther distance compared to STOVL ops) land-based practicality (wasted space for STOVL equipment limits range/payload) integrated avionics to make the plane harder to kill and easier to make kills with

JSF program faces steep cost overruns
JediMaster replied to EricJ's topic in Military and General Aviation
Procurement laws are literally 180 degrees from common sense. We can't just buy PCs for our use at this base. No, the law REQUIRES we not order direct from Dell or wherever but instead purchase them through a 3rd-party middleman that is a "minority owned/operated business." Why? So they can get some defense spending dollars! Just so the bigger companies aren't the only ones profiting, despite the added costs to taxpayers, inefficiencies (multiple issues with incorrect orders over the years), and plain stupidity of the idea. In other words, you CAN'T do the logical and cost-effective thing because the LAW says you're not allowed to! That's Congress, passing laws to generate jobs for their consituents even while forcing them to pay higher/more taxes to cover it! -

I don't know, I'm still not sold on the P-8. The idea a twin-turbofan can do the job of a quad-turboprop... The P-3 shuts down 2 engines and cruises at very low speeds on patrol to save fuel and extend loiter time. What can a 737 do to compete with that? It may have the same loiter time at lower throttle numbers, but I think it will fly higher and faster as a rule and only have that loiter time by having vastly larger amounts of fuel onboard. I never learned why the P-7 was cancelled, it seemed a better fit.
