Windows 8.1 Update 1 has improved things quite a bit. It's still not "as good as 7", but it's no longer worlds worse. When DX12 comes out, and will apparently not be for 7 (as DX11.1 is currently also not), it may be that the benefits will finally surpass the downsides. Of course, by then Win9 could be out and either make 8 look like crap...or heaven.

Just playing devil's advocate here, but the US military doesn't pay enlisted men that great. The benefits offered are ok, but if you can make more money doing the same job, and the people you're working with and for are ostensibly all former US military, why WOULDN'T you go?

Meh. I was picturing something that looked a lot better than THAT!

At least I only rented Stealth.

Is there any news on IRIS Flight Simulations F-22A, F-15E & F-14 Modules for DCS
JediMaster replied to SkyStrike's topic in Digital Combat Simulator Series General Discussion
No cancellation word I've heard either. I've literally heard nothing in months. Could be shelved permanently or temporarily, they could be working hard behind closed doors. They're just not putting the word out. -
No, the 130s are ubiquitous, Israel buying 400Ms instead would be interesting! I just was wondering if there was any vehicle named Delilah.

Next up: Putin invades Brighton Beach because ethnic Russians are under siege...by Obamacare-related costs.

I've not heard an update on any IRIS project in like a year. -
Samson, interesting choice.

A-10 landing on Sand runway
JediMaster replied to MigBuster's topic in Military and General Aviation
Weather divert or runway under repair would be the two top reasons I could imagine, but this could just as easily have been done for a photo op. -
Hey, some of those WWII ships were still around then! I mean, how old is the Nimitz today? And we JUST retired the Enterprise. Having 20-yr old ships is fine.

Carelessness is the cause of most auto accidents, and those kill more people every year than guns and knives combined, so that makes plenty of sense. However, a crazy wielding knives is neither careless nor an accident.

EDGE news develop
JediMaster replied to SilverDragon's topic in Digital Combat Simulator Series General Discussion
Not quite Arma 3-level detail on those infantry, but it's pretty good for even Combined Arms. -
Nevada is close, it's waiting for Edge to be finished. Whether Nevada comes out with 1.3.0 or shortly thereafter hasn't been stated that I've seen, however 1.3.0 is a prerequisite for Nevada.

And just how long does it take to remove from that packing? And then go running down hallways like a berserker? It's not like this kid was walking around with these blades in his hand all day and no one cared till he started swinging.

I bought their greatest hits CD several years ago and was surprised how many of their songs I knew but had forgotten the title to!

Look at the credits list for Christopher Lee. That guy not only never turned down a role, he seems to have gotten every role he ever tried to get, was offered, or had a brief thought about. I remember him saying in an interview that an actor really shouldn't be bothered by whether they think a film will be good or not, the job was to act the role, not ensure the overall quality of the film--that is the responsibility of the director. It boiled down to every job was something for your resume. You do the best you can do in the confines of what you have to work with. So if your performance is the only thing in the film that DOESN'T suck, that's fine, because you did your best and you can use it as proof that you're a professional.

I remember Stephen vs Steven on the Daily Show quite fondly. Those guys were great playing off each other. Maybe he can get Carrell as one of his first guests and they can reprise it!

DCS: Product Term
JediMaster replied to SilverDragon's topic in Digital Combat Simulator Series General Discussion
Well...that's certainly differentiating the products. Unfortunately there are more levels than I thought, so it's not as clear-cut as would be ideal. Having 4 levels of FM and 2 of SM with no automatic correlation between the 2 (ie every PFM plane also has ASM) certainly leaves lots of combinations. The "HD" label idea I had is now "PFM+ASM", but there are now multiple variations of FM and SM below that. -
DCS: F-15C Eagle web page available
JediMaster replied to streakeagle's topic in Digital Combat Simulator Series General Discussion
I did some MP in Arma 3 in a tank with 2 other guys, a couple of APCs, and a lot of infantry on Mon night, great fun. Oh, and there was a guy doing CAS in a jet, I forget which one. If only the map was better suited to jets it would've been perfect. Of course, I don't own SB. I can't justify that price for something I'd spend so little time on. -
No radar, no fancy avionics, no afterburner. Just guns'n'bombs. Perfect for Il-2.

DCS: F-15C Eagle web page available
JediMaster replied to streakeagle's topic in Digital Combat Simulator Series General Discussion
As a Combined Arms owner, Edge and Nevada are my hope to drive in a realistic world as opposed to feeling like I've been shrunk down on someone's train set. -
I only have the Ka-50 as it was the first DCS title. I don't have either of the others because, as you said, their current utility is also limited until the "World" is rounded out. I would say I spend the most time in the 25T, A-10C, Ka-50, and F-15C. I spend very little time in the A-10A, 25, MiGs or Flankers, but that's more because I don't have many missions using them. Well, actually I have several with A-10A and C slots, but I tend to pick the C more just because I know the A so well and I'm STILL learning the C.
