The PS2 is very old now. The PS3 is what is comparable to the 360, just as the PS2 was comparable to the Xbox itself. To make a game for the PS2 it can't be nearly as complex or graphically attractive.

Lockheed to supply 18 F-16s to Pakistan
JediMaster replied to ghostrider883's topic in Military and General Aviation
I think part of the misconception is in the way nukes are made. There is no way the F-16s sold to Pakistan could drop US made nukes. We have multiple failsafes and such and specialized equipment needed for proper operation. However, the way a nuclear bomb works is really quite simple. It's all about having the proper materials and the correct manner of construction in making one work, which is why there used to be so much testing. Theory only takes it so far. Anyway, I don't think it would be any more difficult for the Pakis to wire their plane to drop nukes they made themselves than it was to make the nukes in the first place, honestly. After all, it's not like air dropped or missile-launched nukes are all that exist. They made nuclear artillery shells! How complex an arming system could they have needed? So, while on the one hand India has a point that these planes COULD be used for that, in reality ANY plane Pakistan has could just as easily be wired for their bombs, including the planes they're getting from China. Besides, I don't think the US has really ever done much with carrying nukes on F-16s. We have so many other delivery systems for them that are more appropriate I don't think it's necessary to spend the extra time and money on it. Would the planes survive an attack? Most likely not, but if you're going to be using nukes like that my guess is they won't care if their planes and pilots return or not. -
Australian Superbug deal may be cancelled?
JediMaster replied to BUFF's topic in Military and General Aviation
Until they're delivered any contract can be cancelled. What surprises me is the numbers. How can 4x as many F-35s only cost 2x as much? $250,000,000 per Super Hornet??!?! That's got to be like 3x what they're supposed to cost. Or is that with full life cycle costs? If so, then they're comparing the cost of 24 Superbugs for the full 30 yrs they're to be used with the cost of merely buying 100 F-35s? -
When the wings sweep fully back the device that covers the gaps for full-forward sweep folds up into a fence. That looks more complex than the way the B-1 does it, but not in a good way.

Well, the 135s and the E-3/6/8, yes.

Bah, a map means nothing! If it's not at the same scale as the map of where you live that you're comparing it to you get a false sense of size. There are people in NJ, for example, that are astonished at how big FL is. You can literally drive from sunrise to sunset in FL (in the winter) in one direction (Key West to Pensacola) and never leave the state! To drive across FL from my house to Tampa takes over 2 hours alone. Then you get the states out west that are even larger but have small populations so that you can drive all day and never see anyone! For instance, Israel is 20,330 SQ KM in size. Arizona is 294,315 SQ KM, or 14.5x larger, and that's not even close to the largest state. France is 545630 sq km, or less than 2x the size of Arizona! I remember we drove from Las Vegas back to Miami in only 3 days of pretty much non-stop driving. I think we stopped and slept for 6 hours or so the 2nd night. I think the amazing thing is the variety of languages and cultures in a place like Europe when geographically it's not much larger than Texas, yet Texas is almost culturally unified in comparison!

New strike fighter 2 in 2008 ?
JediMaster replied to DamonSchumi's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
That's an entirely different kind of programming. Altogether! -
The AI in Il-2 irritates me to no end. It's like flying on a public server with a bunch of cheaters!

Lockheed to supply 18 F-16s to Pakistan
JediMaster replied to ghostrider883's topic in Military and General Aviation
The Pakis are already in the midst of getting the FC-1 from China. I think it's the FC-1. Maybe it's the FC-17? I can't remember any of the current Chinese planes other than the J-10 and J-11! -
It was the epitome of "function over form"!

Ok, Fox only started up 20 years ago. All the rest of us remember when there WAS no Fox!!

New strike fighter 2 in 2008 ?
JediMaster replied to DamonSchumi's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Perhaps, but we're just being honest that when it comes to flight sims, things like FMs, DMs, AI, graphics, editing, so on rank above medals. In fact, I think turning the engine on/off and ejecting are more important than medals too. Not just here, ANY sim. So until you said it, I never realized there was anything wrong with the medals at all, and I've been playing this game since the official (non Wally) SFP1 release! -
I was watching Shrek 3 last night and I was thinking how the new Hobbit film could be done animated CG and probably come off better than live action. I mean, Gollum and Smaug would be CG anyway, as would the trolls, so why not? Probably same thing here. You can make an animated film look great for less money than a live action one would take.

Lockheed to supply 18 F-16s to Pakistan
JediMaster replied to ghostrider883's topic in Military and General Aviation
I'm sure the avionics/radar are downgraded compared to what the US Blk52s have anyway. Besides, in today's era an enemy fighter is far less worrisome than some other things...like maybe nukes? -
First Short Takeoff/Vertical Landing Stealth Fighter Unveiled At Lockheed Martin
JediMaster replied to Silverbolt's topic in Military and General Aviation
Well, the "F-32" would've looked different. That design was found to be wanting in carrier-landing regimes for tail authority and it would've had a conventional tail, as you can see here: -
The F-22 will be using JDAMs. That's why the F-117s are being retired and will be gone by the end of this year.
-
FYI the -80 is at the Udvar-Hazy museum at Dulles outside D.C. It's amazing how small it is!
-
I think the wing sweep mechanism is more complex. That's about it.
-
Well, the T-birds was a kid's film, thru and thru. You can't really compare it.

People from other countries often have trouble comprehending just how big the US is!

Gun damage
JediMaster replied to serverandenforcer's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
I remember watching a program once on the M61A1 Vulcan and it's high ROF. They mentioned the reason the US used the smaller 20mm cannon was so they could get that high ROF. The 23mm+ cannons out there (other than the Hog's GAU-8) have far lower rates of fire. The idea is that a fighter-sized target flying at 90 degrees to your flight path would be hit by around half a dozen shells as it crossed in front of you, assuming straight and level flight for shooter and target for this argument. Against a MiG-21-sized target, that was deemed enough hits for a probable kill. Granted the target may take more to go down, but it will likely be in very bad shape as those shells have impacted along the entire length of the target, not all in one spot. This doesn't mean the target explodes in a big fireball, but if the plane is hurt enough that the pilot must either eject or RTB, that's sufficient. In real life, of course. Sims tend not to count damaged "mission kills" as real kills. -
Question about LOMAC HUD problem [?]

I've been at SimHQ forever, too, but I'm also here. -
What is LOMAN?
JediMaster replied to ktickner6767's topic in Digital Combat Simulator Series General Discussion
It's a tool to allow easy enabling/disabling of mods for LOMAC. These go from simple skins to far more complex things. As for where to find it, I know lockonfiles.com must have it, along with many of the mods to go with it. I've not used it myself in ages, so I'm hard pressed to say exactly. -
Is that triplane actually hung in a 135 degree bank? That's not common.

Some patches?
JediMaster replied to Emp_Palpatine's topic in IL-2 Series / Pacific Fighters / Cliffs of Dover: General Discussion
Campaigns and missions, yes. Tons of them. Also the aforementioned skins. Flyables are ONLY added via patches, as are maps. Il-2 is a "closed" sim, not "open" like CFS3, SFP1, MSFS, and some others.
