  1. Anyone know this aircraft

It wasn't until WWII that 4-bladed props became standard, and not the beginning of the war either. Many planes known for 4 or 5 blades late-war had only 3 early war.
  2. Operation Misguided Bird

While the average teen couldn't hack it, I'm sure there are some who could, assuming they had the physical build for it of course. I will admit I don't get WHY they are teens. It does make a line like "someone she never expected to see in her whole career as an T.M pilot" a bit comical, though...just how long has that career been anyway?
  3. Happy new year everyone :)

Thanks for reminding me I have to eat with the in-laws tonight!! UGH!
  4. Helicopter sims

I think the last helo sim that let you do transport missions was Longbow 2 (I don't count Whirlwind, it's an unfinished mess). EECH is probably the best released THIS century, with EE2 being a "remake" of sorts that needs patching but has yet to get any.
  5. Nine eleven is here again.

Likewise I work for the USAF and I don't get to dictate when I work.
  6. SWEET! I'm thinking TK's next patch for WOE will be out by then as well, and I don't know if it will "break" NF1 and 2, but hopefully NF3 will have whatever alterations are needed to "fix" them.
  7. He's one of the many early modders that are sorely missed. LvP is another one, off the top of my head.
  8. Whirlwind over Vietnam..

From what I've heard, your experience is not unusual, unfortunately. This game was released in more or less a beta-state, only with so many features missing I'd almost call it an alpha!
  9. I've not touched a copy of NFS since...whatever title before the Porsche-dedicated one! I always meant to get that one, too, but didn't get around to it.
  10. RACE 07 demo released

I've DL'd this but haven't tried it yet. However, between rF, GTR2, GPL, and GTL, I don't know if I need another racing sim.
  11. New MS Combat Sim 3?

Don't know. The one thread I saw later had the pics pulled, probably because the pics were technically still under NDA even though it was cancelled.
  12. Mud movin II

I find angle seems less important than speed. The faster you go, the flatter the trajectory, and the closer to the target you'll be. Of course, it makes pulling up harder, but you don't fly those planes to be safe!
  13. MiG-21

Which in the case of warbirds is often at least as much or more than the initial purchase price.
  14. New MS Combat Sim 3?

When someone on SimHQ I think interviewed the ACES team about MSFS he asked about a new CFS. Word was "no plans at this time." Shame, really. The shots I saw of the canceled CFS4 were very good.
  15. After that one, I was wondering if the Russians were going to stick AAMs on a Bear.
  16. Odd aircraft - Dornier Do 200 for example

If only the engines had been strong enough to actually make the plane combat-capable.
  17. Groom Lake Birds

FWIW, very little is being done as far as flight testing out of there nowadays. The place is too high-profile (ironically) and easily watched. I hear all that stuff is being done out of Utah now.
  18. The Russians Are Coming!

Second time? Bah, I've read RSR at least 4 times! Anyway, having the resources to fly a few bombers around is a far different matter than being able to field a combat-ready wing.
  19. IAF Jaguars ‘sink’ USS Nimitz

    Exercises are exercises.
  20. Nuclear Ops...or Ooops?

Well, another issue that may later come to light is that some of the personnel WERE aware and reported it and were ignored. If so, I would think those lower echelon people would be excused while the ones in charge will suffer even more.
  21. Operation Misguided Bird

All I can think of right now is I don't think the Su-37 has a 20mm Vulcan cannon. It doesn't have room in there for it. The 30mm cannon it has takes less room carrying only 150 rounds.
  22. Pictures from vacation (updated with Museum of Flight pics)

I don't think that's an A-12. That looks like an SR-71 to me. A-12 was single-seat, had kinks in the chines around the nose, and had a folding fin under the tail a la MiG-23. I also think the SR-71 was the only one used in the D-21 program.
  23. Random Ravings

Yeah, I saw those interviews on the 2nd DVD and laughed at their talk of Kat Ross. The truly ironic thing is for how important she thought she was, how much did she do after that movie?
  24. Air Force Muesum Visit

That's one place I've never been, but plan on visiting someday!
  25. Yeah, the one on the Bismarck and the one on the S Pacific naval engagement were really stretching it when it comes to the definition of "dogfights." A bunch of Swordfish vs a BB = NOT.
