North Korean Widowmaker
JediMaster replied to a topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
I can just picture trying to dogfight a sausage. -
With the patches being so small, it doesn't surprise me that the DL image isn't updated with every patch. Some other games out there it's a different story...as soon as your patches have trouble fitting on a single CD...

Indian Air Force floats tender for 126 fighter jets
JediMaster replied to ghostrider883's topic in Military and General Aviation
Eritrea and Ethiopia both got Russian fighters. One got Fulcrums and the other Flankers, but I don't know offhand which got which. -
Odd aircraft - Dornier Do 200 for example
JediMaster replied to SayethWhaaaa's topic in Military and General Aviation
Ah, well I can't see or read 90% of the pics or links you guys post anyway thanks to the DoD's proxy filter, so I was going on name, not picture! As for the Forger, that was a naval aircraft, not AF, wasn't it? -
Lead Sled
JediMaster replied to FOTF's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Right, the only planes in that range that don't count are the F-111 and F-117. -

It looks "Bucc-ish" from the front, but from other angles you'll see that it's a MiG-19 from the tail to the wingroot leading edge. Only the cockpit/nose/intake arrangement differs. -
Indian Air Force floats tender for 126 fighter jets
JediMaster replied to ghostrider883's topic in Military and General Aviation
Right, as "interim" fighters until their new fighter contract came about. Those planes would be F-16s, and they have started deliveries. -

I remember that plane. The props' tips broke the sound barrier at speed, IIRC, and the noise was literally deafening. Ground crew reported becoming violently nauseous. -
Chinese Late model J7
JediMaster replied to lazboy's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
I've never seen that before. I'm guessing lower roll rate but higher weights and ceiling and longer ranges possible. -
Most damaged aircraft that remained flyable
JediMaster replied to Hawk MMS's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
If you're hit by a few small-caliber (20mm or less) hits or a glancing missile hit (shrapnel) you'll get damage like that. -
European Modern aircrafts
JediMaster replied to Trancer's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
What, Russia isn't European enough for you guys? -
animating jet pipes
JediMaster replied to Bongodriver's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - Mods/Skinning Discussion
You can link an animation to throttle position? I didn't know you could. -

I fought many of these over Korea in my F-16 back in the day. -
Gnat & Ajeet
JediMaster replied to Marcfighter's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - Mods/Skinning Discussion
It may be called the Gnat, but it stings like a bee. -
I'm not holding out too much hope for OFP2 as it's not BIS. In related news, ArmA 2 was also announced recently.

I'm not sure exactly what the point of this exercise is, honestly...

I tried the PC version and liked it well enough, if you're into that kind of shooter. Little "tactical" gameplay here.

Actually, Israel's is usually more properly referred to as the IDFAF, just like Japan's JASDF (not JAF). The IAF has always been the IAF as far as I remember...since before Israel had one. The funny thing about this competition is the competitor have a WIDE range in price. Gripen and MiG-29 at the low end and Typhoon at the high end. -
It's not so bad. I hear 49 is the new 46.

At $1.6b, all you get is the planet's most expensive glider. If you want to fly it into space, be prepared to pay double that.

Well, Putin isn't Gorby or Yeltsin and Bush isn't Reagan or Clinton. That's all it really takes to change things around.

An IDF Officer rescued by Palastinian police in Jenin
JediMaster replied to Nesher's topic in Military and General Aviation
Right, regardless of personal feelings they have to do what is required of them. -
Yet the RAF has no problem letting the IAF know their frequencies...
