Guns are overmodeled?
JediMaster replied to Luiz Carlos's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
The M61A1 was designed with a very high ROF yet lower caliber than Eastern guns because it was realized that even with 20mm only 3-4 hits would be necessary to take out another fighter. Thanks to the high ROF a plane crossing at 90 degrees in front of you would still be hit with 3-4 shells. The Soviet philosophy was larger caliber, less bullets, slower ROF. That's why the MiG-29 has 30mm but only 150 rounds. Yet it's IRST and auto-gun made it possible to only fire 10 rounds and get multiple hits. Anyway, what it boils down to is that Korea was the last war fought with .50s as a major weapon. Cannons tend to take planes down much faster. -
That's too bad. I've been having a blast with ArmA MP twice a week.

M80 power? *POP* Oh Lord, bless thy holy hand grenade... -
AFAIK, bird ingestion has never happened on a 117 thanks to the grille covering the intakes. I don't know if it's possible or not.

Heh, I've always dreamed of seeing the F-108 in action. However, planes come when they come. -

Thirdwires F-104G
JediMaster replied to MigBuster's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - Mods/Skinning Discussion
I've lost track of how many planes I've run across with inaccurate performance in one area or another. Can't say I've seen anyone talk about the 104G to date, though. However, there's no way the REAL 104G was that much slower. It might have had worse acceleration and a lower top speed, but AFAIK every 104 model did Mach 2+. -

JediMaster replied to GASCAN39's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - Mods/Skinning Discussion
That's just a quirk of the board software...the uploader is listed as "author" even if that's not the case. -

You can't change something as major as the nose profile with an .ini edit, no. That requires model alterations. -
Anyone else here getting the new B5 DVD? I can't wait to see it, especially with the advances in CGI over the years like we've seen in Firefly and BSG. It's too bad the Garibaldi part was dropped and pushed back for the (so far without ETA) 2nd release, but we get Sheridan and Lochley with Galen in the mix.

Well, part of the reason the show was so good was the 5 yr arc. It meant there was no filler, no aimless wandering. It also meant when it ended we were upset. As for Farscape, I guess the cancellation of SG-1 freed up the stars again!

I would pay a good chunk of change for another game in the Wing Cmdr/X Wing/TIE Fighter/Freespace style of gameplay again.

I heard some people talking about this mod. I'm going to try it to see how it differs from the ones in GTL. -

Unfortunately, we don't get a lot of LOMAC traffic here. That said, I've never tried this as I have my hands full with the planes already in the game. -
A lot of people know the Dr.I and Camel. That will certainly help sales. As for "doubling up", well, you can always decide which one you like more and then just fly that one later.

A-12 Avenger
JediMaster replied to christian59's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
I don't know, I mean the A-6 never carried AAMs that I recall, and those like the A-4 and A-7 only carried AIM-9s. Was the A-12 even going to have an AA radar? I can't imagine an AIM-120 working without a radar. -

What are 1970 miles in today's miles? I forget the conversion. Is it like 1000 back then are like 20,000 now? -
The new BSG is totally different from the old. Think the difference between the Adam West Batman and the Christian Bale Batman and you'll get the idea. I thought the old BSG was great for kids who liked Star Wars. The new BSG is great for adults who liked B5.
