Well, you could argue about it, but people would look at you like you walked into the room with soiled underwear on your head.

Sierra Closing Servers
JediMaster replied to Fates's topic in Racing Simulations General Discussions
Yeah, and people say that games that rely on publisher-run servers aren't at a disadvantage. Good thing I'm not playing any of those MP anymore. -
The stupid disc access when you die and have to reload does bug me, but I also will stick with what I have. Should it break, I would get the new one to replace it of course instead of an old model, but it's not worth the upgrade.

Yeah, SB from BSG will be in it, at least the early ones. I liked Jake 2.0, but it was at the tail end of UPN's SF series run and didn't last. UPN had a few good ones over the years, including Seven Days, that aren't remembered much anymore.

GAU-8 Avenger
JediMaster replied to Delta6Actual's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - Mods/Skinning Discussion
Yeah, that distinctive humming/roaring/ripping sound. Don't know of one myself, but I'd think if you could find one on the net you'd be able to modify it pretty easily. -
I never bothered with RACE 06 as I heard that other than Macau it didn't offer much other than what you could already get in GTR2 and rFactor. For an owner of those, is there anything really compelling about R06? I will consider R07 if it's a big enough leap ahead, though.

I'm a little confused as Cold War Crisis was the subtitle to the original release of Op Flashpoint. I don't know Zero Hour, though.

Serenity took some time to get going. I didn't get hooked till...around the time it was cancelled. Lost is pretty much it right now. It's the reason the other 3 shows were made, but they didn't make it and now we have nothing on network TV.

still looking for strike eagle sim
JediMaster replied to viperfalcon's topic in General Flight Sim Discussion
I remember Elf saying there was an F-15 2.0 in the works, possibly around the time of the A-10 game, but both were cancelled shortly after Jane's F/A-18 release. Other than that, Jane's F-15 was the last commercially released F-15-only sim. LOMAC had the F-15C, released a few years later, but its loading screen was the one with the guy in camo with his back to the camera directing the plane. WoE has the F-15A, but its loading screen is just a pair taking off. That's it for combat sims with F-15s. I would've loved to see another Strike Eagle sim, but Jane's was the last one. I'm thinking the loading screen you remember seeing way back just doesn't show anymore because your PC now is far more powerful than what you had back then. -
Version Pack
JediMaster replied to KingAlbert's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Anyone come up with it? Yes. Projects such as Operation Tainted Cigar for OFP and NATO Fighters 1 and 2 for WOE, among others. Excellent "all-in-one" solutions. However, due to issues with modders getting permissions from other modders and such there are a limited number of them. -
Super Tomcats

IIRC, there were more F-14Bs made than D's. You could turn an A into a B with relatively little work, as it was pretty much just an engine change, but the D had a totally new cockpit as well. By retiring the A's they standardized the fleet on one engine, but it was still different enough that they split the 2 models between the east and west coasts. Anyway, the B is the plane the F-14 was meant to be and the D was the plane it could've been. Of course, after the end of the Cold War not only was production stopped but the rigs were ordered destroyed so no more could be made. -
Yeah, tell me about it. Two years ago we had a boon with Surface, Threshold, and Invasion...all cancelled, and only 2 made a full season. Still, all left us hanging. The best part of QL was the Sam/Al interactions, proving once again good shows are character-based as much as anything else.

LOL, I remember in the old days just doing it from the DOS prompt!

still looking for strike eagle sim
JediMaster replied to viperfalcon's topic in General Flight Sim Discussion
I think you're confusing "menu screens" with "loading screens." The one FC posted is what showed up when you clicked "fly" before you got into the cockpit. The ones you've posted are all menu shots from stuff you do BEFORE clicking fly. -
Odd aircraft - Dornier Do 200 for example

IIRC, captured planes were used in special ops missions on several occasions in WWII. -
You can't prove a negative. You can either show a direct link or an indirect link between human activity and warming, or you can't. If you can't, it doesn't mean there aren't any, or isn't one, it just means that you can't prove it. That's like saying "prove that my daily ritual of garlic gargling doesn't prevent attack by vampires." Fact: you gargle garlic. Fact: you've not been attacked by vampires. Doesn't prove garlic prevents vampire attack.

rfactorcentral USED to have links that were good. The guy pulled them after he apparently had mega bandwidth bills. He later reinstated very slow links. It's a shame. As for FSONE, it's ok, but I think the low speed handling leaves a lot to be desired. As soon as you're below 100mph all bets are off as to what the car will do. I prefer the BMW F1 car from ISI.

Yup, and cancelled around 15-16 years ago when I was in HS. The Flying Dorito. -
Newbie needs help?
JediMaster replied to Rayzer's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
LOMAC does indeed have training missions. Some are better than others. -
Avoiding it? Some people seem to revel in it, I don't think there's any avoiding it.
-
I might get RACE 2007 then. I skipped 2006 because people I knew told me it didn't really offer much that was different from GTR2 or rFactor. I have both of those, plus GTL and of course the old reliable, GPL, installed right now. I have F1C and NASCAR 2003 lying around, but not installed. I barely touch any but rFactor right now anyway.

The only way it could work is if they took the characters and transplanted them to a more realistic modern situation. There's nothing wrong with the characters, and they're better defined than most war movie characters are.

"Who do you think you are, Captain?" "Denny Crane!"

Well, Wing Cmdr was fixed in that X was yaw, Y was pitch, and twist was roll. I seem to recall in the X Wing series, though, that X was a combination of roll and yaw...
