Dumb question
JediMaster replied to Blakrain's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
The funny thing is the A-9 looks like it was built for the same purpose as the Su-25, and the A-10 totally different. While the A-10 can do CAS, it was built as a tank killer. The A-9 and Su-25 can kill tanks, but not as well...they were built for CAS. -
FORGOTTEN AIRCRAFTS
JediMaster replied to vulkan's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Of course, the less well known they are the harder they are to make as you have less reference material. -

With natural haze in the atmosphere making things look gray it's no wonder that low-vis gray is the most popular paint scheme now no matter which plane/helo it is. Also blends in if you're parked on the tarmac. Only from above at short range is it really visible. -

Red Flag Alaska Pictures (56k Be Warned)
JediMaster replied to CowboyTodd41's topic in Military and General Aviation
I guess I'm just surprised they called it Red Flag Alaska. That's kind of like saying "Washington D.C., Florida." -
Yeah, I've seen those safety videos where they tow the truck behind the airliner and let it go tumbling away.

How coincidental that I'd just watched the episode of "Dogfights" featuring him last week. A truly creative mind.

I've never been there. Still looking to make it there someday.

Ejecting
JediMaster replied to Jarhead1's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Well, there may be a randomization thing in there ie ejections fail to save you a certain amount of the time even if you do it in time due to seat failure or something. -

Nothing like the airspeed reading 400kts and the GPS telling you you're going backwards. -
TM went downhill after it was sold to Guillemot. In the old Hoffman/Church days the place was tops. I had several FCS, a pro FCS, the T1 wheel, and the complete FLCS/TQS/RCS combo. Now I have the Cougar. I must say I had almost zero issues until my first FLCS was a few years old, in the late 90s. I sent it back to TM for repair/replacement like 5 times in a 2 year period for things like the keyboard part failing or wild spiking or so on. Bob's SWF22 digital chips fixed most of that and I was fat and happy until gameports became obsolete.

That's a new definition of the term "aggressor."

ArmA/OFP supports multiple players in one helo. Whether flying an attack helo like the AH-1 or just being the gunner in a UH-60 it's a fun thing to do.

The Tomcats were old and cost too much to maintain in comparison. The Hornets offered 85% capability for 50% of the cost or so. -
Bombers VS Fighters
JediMaster replied to Lt. James Cater's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
The old B-17 sims from MPS had missions that were hours long. You could time compress, of course. Take off from England, circle while your squadron forms up, fly out, over the Channel/North Sea, into enemy airspace...braving flak and/or fighters until your IP, line up with the Norden, drop, turn for home and back all the way to England...hoping your gear still works, you're in one piece, and you don't crash. -
A question about views in WOV.....
JediMaster replied to navychief's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
MP works, it's just limited in scope. -
Oh man, I LOVED Descent. I had the BEST time playing DM in that game at a LAN meet I used to frequent. First D1, then D2, and then D3. Not a true space sim, though. Rebel Assault was just meh. Starfleet Academy was ok, but I cared more about the FMV with Takei and the Shatner cameo. The best in that genre was Klingon Academy (Christopher Plummer returns as Kang! David Warner as Gorkon! Brilliantly done!) and Bridge Commander.

I'm worried about that show. It may not deliver what we're expecting.

That's the way I felt when I upgraded my PC a couple of years back and couldn't use my gameport-equipped SWF22 FLCS/TQS/RCS anymore. The gameport on my Audigy worked fine, but when I got an X Fi which had none I found the gameport on my motherboard was crap. Spiking, jittering... So, I have a Cougar now and the fact that it's not modded means I have to deal with things I never had problems with on my old setup. Can't feel the detent on the ANT wheel, stick centering too loose (so the stick actually "leans" in 2 positions, and one of them actually causes a tiny input)... I wish there was a USB version of my SWF22 instead, it was superior to the Cougar despite being all plastic instead of metal.

Are you talking about the later Elite RCS or the old gold anodized RCS?

Once the mod and its planes are out, anyone will be free to create their own MiG campaign for it. -
Hi all! Where do I find an SU-27?
JediMaster replied to marvinblue's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
The company also changed its name to MIG at some point.
