Soviet counterpart of a A-10?
JediMaster replied to Rends's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - General Discussion
I love how people will disagree with me so they can say they agree with me. -
DCS:MiG-21Bis finalization and publishing on hold

Wow, this is bad PR. Not so much for the plane itself but for the professionalism of those involved. -
IDF Home Front Command Simulates Plane Crash

They're called "background players" now. Do not insult them with the name "extra", Ricky Gervais' series notwithstanding! -

That was a pretty flat landing angle from that picture. -
When the F-22 was created at the end of the 1980s, the idea that it would be flying around with F-15 or F-16 or USN planes was a foreign concept. There were going to be around one THOUSAND ATFs built, they'd obviously just be flying with other ATFs. The teen-series fighters were going to all be retired anyway by then. The future never unfolds as we plan. I have a few pics of a WB-57 I took here around the time of the shuttle's return to flight, don't know where they got to.

Soviet counterpart of a A-10?
JediMaster replied to Rends's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - General Discussion
To be fair, the Su-25 was a contemporary, but it's not exactly the same. You won't be tearing up tanks with the Frogfoot's cannon like the A-10 can. The A-10 was built as a tank killer that can also do CAS. The Su-25, like the A-9 that lost to the A-10, was built for CAS and can also defeat tanks using AT missiles. The last time the USSR had a plane like the A-10 really was the large-caliber cannon equipped Il-2s! -
CFS3's strengths were in different areas. It was easily moddable, but had inferior graphics abilities (the water isn't transparent but a solid "water" texture for instance). The map of Europe was far larger than any Il-2 map, covering from the UK to Switzerland and France to Germany. The AI was more believable to me, it never pulled stunts I thought impossible. The damage and flight models of the stock planes were poor (almost any hit seemed to go for your control cables first, making you roll like a B-52), but 3rd party planes from modders and paid sources like Firepower were excellent. I found the dynamic campaign better done than the ones Il-2 generated, too. Frankly, I think overall CFS3 offered an equivalent experience, less in some areas, more in others, to Il-2, but the community at large seemed to embrace Il-2 and shun CFS3 and it faded away. The leaked screenshots of the unannounced-yet-cancelled CFS4 in the Pacific theater were quite impressive and honestly looked better than Il-2. We could've had a great new WWII sim circa 2006 from MS had they not cut and run. Alas...

Norwegian rescue copter crashes

That looks like a hard crash. -
Just be prepared for the treatment, because as is often the case the treatment will feel worse than the disease! Some diseases in the elderly are in fact left untreated because while it might kill them in say 10 years the treatment might kill them in far less time. It's not an option for you, though, you can't NOT do it, so like I said steel yourself for some unpleasantness until you're through. I know you'll be a survivor and not a victim.

It's partly the media's fault. Their extensive coverage of the relatively isolated incidents elevated them into the public consciousness, so now every crazy thinks about firing guns in crowded places. It's no longer an idea they have to come up with, it's given to them.

Oh yeah, I didn't have a joystick for sims until years later! I think 1991 I got the joystick maybe when we got our 386? So SWOTL, CYAC, Falcon 3...I got Red Baron late, too, so I had the stick for that. For Gunship, F-19, and Jetfighter 1 I used the keyboard on my 8088...that was horrible.

I wonder if this is one of the H's still flying?

I think bird strikes are a problem for every plane, that's more a geographic concern than anything else. -

Gear strengthening is probably the least difficult part of navalizing a plane, really. -

What...is your name? King Arthur! What...is your quest? To find the Holy Grail. What...is the air velocity wingspeed of an unladen swallow? Which do you mean, African or European? I don't know--ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh How do you know so much about swallows? Well you have to know these things when you're king, you know? -
It always bugs me when people refuse to believe that humans are intelligent enough, even if it's just a handful, to come up with leaps forward in tech. No, no, it had to come from outer space, because humans are too dumb. Granted MANY are too dumb (such as the ones coming up with these theories) but not ALL are.

Until you pay the bill, don't buy into the numbers. To this day, the press reports that the B-2 costs anywhere from $500m to $4 BILLION per plane, all depending on who's doing the counting. For comparison, at the end of its run the F-22 cost $141m USD to build each, yet press reports NEVER give numbers that low.

JediMaster replied to MAKO69's topic in Military and General Aviation
It will take a lot more than a hook, folding wings, redesigned gears, enhanced corrosion protection, local airframe strengthening, and lots of testing. It will take money. -

Last thing you want or need is to spend millions on better cockpits and radars to have them falling out of the sky due to wing cracks or something. -
SF-2 Future
JediMaster replied to paulopanz's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - General Discussion
Hey, it lasted 10 years. Longer than MS CFS did. At least with a stable code base we can adjust the mods without worrying about a new patch/DLC/addon breaking them all yet again. -
