As someone who lived next door to the whole Zimmerman thing, I'm literally astounded at how the media portrayed this outside the local community. Here it was pretty cut and dry, but it seems the media wanted to portray it as "harmless teenager stalked and shot by half-crazed vigilante". I especially loved the "what if the boy was white and Zimmerman was black" flip-flop scenario played, because in that case it never would have happened. Of course, Zimmerman isn't white, but the media conveniently kept ignoring that too. I mean seriously, can you imagine a 17 yr old white boy being followed by an almost 30 yr old black man twice his size after the sun has gone down, turning around, confronting the guy, and then attacking him? That's right, it wouldn't have happened, because that's ridiculous.

Loss of Indian Navy Kilo class submarine INS Sindhurakshak

It's unfortunate that harbor is so congested. Under other circumstances this incident could have been even more tragic. -
There were never QF-14s, QF-117s, QB-52s, and so on. There will never be a QF-22 because there aren't enough of them to bother with. There might be a QF-35 at some point but we'll all be dead!

Safe, Sustained, Max and Ultimate F-14 load limits
JediMaster replied to GalmOne's topic in Military and General Aviation
There's what the plane is capable of, and there's what the service has placed as limits. As mentioned, it's not about what the plane can take so much as how long it will last given regular usage at those limits. -
It's a fine line. While I agree he got where he is on merit, and should not have any stupid penalties heaped on him at this point, I'm not sure he deserves a flag rank. You'd need to look at the precedent for others who made it that high and see what mistakes they may have made. Have others been blocked for less? If so, he should be as well. It's like saying a conviction for a misdemeanor shouldn't stop it when someone else was blocked just for an arrest (with on conviction). However, if others have made MORE grievous errors and still been awarded the promotion, then he should too.

Loss of Indian Navy Kilo class submarine INS Sindhurakshak

While a fire at sea is more dangerous, it's not THAT much more dangerous than one in port. Sounds like this happened too fast for them to save it. -

No, the USMC has no ski ramps. The Harrier didn't need them and neither do the F-35Bs. Yes, you get to takeoff with a higher weight if you have one, but it's not required. -
I was personally offended when he fled this site in a huff when the whole freeware agreement thing came out.The only explanation is "unsufferable ego".

I don't think anyone epitomizes "above and beyond" more than Erik's efforts here. -
DCS World now on Steam...
JediMaster replied to JonathanRL's topic in Digital Combat Simulator Series General Discussion
I don't know about the DRM, but I will tell you the biggest bonus--bandwidth. Steam has far more than ED could ever manage, so patching as well as DLing a new module would be much faster. I just don't think I'm brave enough to try changing my install over as this one is working fine. -
New Iraqi F-16 Paint scheme
JediMaster replied to MigBuster's topic in Military and General Aviation
Actually, 15 years ago that wouldn't have surprised me. Today, once again it would. -
Except McD told them when asked the plane couldn't do it. The IDF then showed them the pics.

Usually mid-airs aren't gentle. While it's possible to have a low relative velocity collision, that's not the norm. Even the XB-70 was brought down by a relatively low speed collision. As I said, it was quite lucky for both pilots to survive, even if it wasn't for them to collide in the first place. It says the collision was around 2300, so it was very dark and I'm sure that contributed.
-
I'm surprised both managed to survive, and that one even managed to land. The F-16 isn't the most sturdy of birds due to its small size in a scenario like that. Luck played its part today.

A New IL-2 ?
JediMaster replied to MigBuster's topic in IL-2 Series / Pacific Fighters / Cliffs of Dover: General Discussion
The good news about ROF's system is if you can wait you can get the planes much cheaper. They have periodic sales plus they offer discounts for buying multiple planes at once, so instead of buying each plane as they come out you could wait until say 4 or 6 are out and then buy them together for the price of an expansion pack. A DIY version if it were. From statements 777 has made it appears they're going to do that automatically, with a set of planes being released together that are theater or year linked. While I share your desire for the previous era of "buy a product for a larger amount of money with many things in it", the market no longer sustains that model. -
A New IL-2 ?
JediMaster replied to MigBuster's topic in IL-2 Series / Pacific Fighters / Cliffs of Dover: General Discussion
I suppose that depends on how you define "completely different." Do you think First Eagles 2 is "completely different" from Strike Fighters 2? Because that's how different ROF and BoS are. Take ROF, change the map from WWI to WWII Stalingrad, change the planes from WWI to WWII...and you get BoS. ROF right now lets you fly 2 planes for free. Or for like $20 you can get the ICE upgrade which will let you fly 9. Then there are over a dozen other planes that you can buy a la carte. BoS will be $50 for 6 planes, with 2 more free that must be unlocked, and 2 more that are included with the $90 version but must be bought separately otherwise. Apparently the plan is to release plane "packs" for a higher price than the ROF individual price containing a few planes, like the SF2 expansion packs did. No idea if they'll separate those out. -
Just like the different branches of the IRA.

Hopefully it will be good and not just a less-funny, more-depressing Dark Star.

A New IL-2 ?
JediMaster replied to MigBuster's topic in IL-2 Series / Pacific Fighters / Cliffs of Dover: General Discussion
This was announced several months back. It was within a month of the final CloD patch (at which time I wrote my review here) that it was announced 1C was dissolving the CloD team, the Battle of Moscow title was canned, and part of it was going to work with 777 on this new title using the ROF engine. If you do not like the ROF business model (a few planes released initially and then later ones released for extra, always online for the campaign, etc), you won't like this either, it's the same. If you do like it, or at least don't mind it, you're good. -
A-10A and Su-25 for DCS Flaming Cliffs Now Available
JediMaster replied to Dave's topic in CombatACE News
I believe the Su-27 and F-15C were announced to "eventually" get to full A-10C levels, but that's it. I hope the MiG-29s get some love at some point as well. -
As with everything, there's what you do, and then there's why you do it.

Do You Even.......
JediMaster replied to Dave's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - General Discussion
I broadcast my data to a black hole located a few hundred light years away. The gravity will warp the signal and send it back, so I can't lose it. I just have to wait almost 1000 years to get the signal. -
Maverick, no. The warhead wouldn't be good enough for that. Perhaps a Hellfire, again there are better warheads in there but the 9's got extra power.
