Battle of Britain 2 possibly most underrated sim
JediMaster replied to streakeagle's topic in General Flight Sim Discussion
Sorry, no matter how good the MP, sometimes it's just easier/better to fly vs AI than look for a group of like-minded people who can all get together at the same time. CloD's AI is not a weak point of it, although it's not a high point either. It's pretty average there...good enough that the other flaws make you not care about the AI's issues. DCS AI was programmed for fast jets, so I'm not sure how much the prop jobs suffer from that. I know I've always found the jet combat good enough anyway. -
You can stop the organized groups from carrying out the big plans that kill thousands, but stopping one guy from killing a handful, whether using bombs or guns, is fairly impossible.
-
Yup. Wow, 55 new jobs. The economy is fully recovered, thanks to Scott!

Stopping it reinstalling the stock aircraft?

All I can think is to delete the CONTENTS of the folders you want gone, but leave the folder itself behind and make it read-only. That way the program can't repopulate them with the .inis that would make the planes appear. -
BOOTMGR is missing....any advice?
JediMaster replied to daddyairplanes's topic in Hardware/Software Chat
A and B are floppy drives. You can activate them in the BIOS, even without them existing, and Windows will show them. The BIOS may or may not give an error at POST about the drives not being detected. -
Yes, the whole "we will make you respect us by disrespecting you" idea. How puzzled they must be that it doesn't seem to work.
-
Is that Scott at the podium? I'm sure he was bragging about everything HE did to make this happen and how it will make vast improvements to the local economy. Or some other Tolkein-esque tale.

The problem with DH2 was the absurd idea that the airport was the only one in the area for like hundreds of miles. What pilot would orbit an airfield for HOURS until the fuel was almost exhausted? ATC coverage overlaps, wouldn't they start calling other airports and requesting to divert when they got low on fuel? Not that most planes would have HOURS of reserve on board anyway.

I don't know about that ideology part. It's a dictatorship. Communism is tossed around, but I think what NK does is little like that. After Stalin, the USSR had 35 yrs of Communism that was not a dictatorship. There was a small group in power who voted on who became the next leader as well as who was positioned to succeed that person. NK's hereditary succession is more an evil monarchy, subjugating the people in order to prop up those in power, than anything else. I think the Soviets had more patriots in charge than NK ever did.

It's the same old song and dance. Unlike Fighter Ops, though, this had a lot more concrete headway made. That makes it more disappointing.

No, no. Walk THIS way.

Throw me a frickin bone, here! I'm the boss...need the info.

ROF is free with 2 planes. You get access to every feature, just only 2 flyable planes. So you can try it anyway and always buy more planes later if you do like it.

And the next reverse engineered fighter in China is..........

I don't know, all transports are alike in one way or another. -
I think it better to be someone respected but disagreed with than to be someone you can't respect regardless of views.

Personally, I'm sick of diplomatic-speak. Just once I'd like to hear some country say "North Korea is a big joke. It's leaders are stupid and impotent and I can't believe anyone is paying attention to their drivel." Why doesn't anyone insult anyone anymore? All this "we have to take it seriously" crap is really dumb. Either A) this is all for show, NK has no intention of fighting, and what we say is irrelevant, or B) they're crazy, they're going to attack no matter what, and what we say is irrelevant.

Right, you see them and you say "O, Man!" -
Be one of the good ones!

Disregard all the talk about "total life costs" because it's just a bunch of irrelevant speculation. No one knows until you're actually using it how much it will cost, and no one knows how many years you'll actually use it for either. It's designed to be sensationalist. There's no doubt this program is flawed, but it's not the plane, it's the management. It's too late to fix it, all that can be done is to push through and actually get an ROI for all the billions and years spent. Or, you're cancelling it and getting zero for that. I can guarantee two things: one, you can't NOT replace the Hornet, F-16, Harrier, and all the rest. They're old, and any brand new program will push their retirement out another 20 years easy. The gov't made the stupid decision to put all its eggs in one basket, and when the inevitable happened it left them with no option. Two, this will happen again. Any replacement will face the exact same problems. It will go over budget because there have been no advances in PEOPLE technology. People guess low. They outright lie about what things will cost to win a bid. They assume "this time will be different" when it won't be. In short, the F-35 is almost fixed and will be a great plane once these issues are worked through. To give up on it now just because idiots were in charge and created the program as a money hole does nothing to invalidate the tech. The calls to "skip" and move on to its successor are shortsighted because as I said it will all just happen again.

Clancy is an old guy with old guy opinions. He hates India for no clear reason I can figure out, either. He has them colluding with China against Russia, which is just preposterous. India would side with Russia before China any time, although they may not side with Russia either! Still, Russia did a lot more for them and China is a real concern. Anyway, Sum of All Fears was itself a silly idea. Well, not the plot to blow up the Super Bowl with a nuke, but the idea that it was precipitated by a peace in Israel and how it was secured. It boils down to this: Clancy knew the USSR/Russia. His early books dealing with them as the adversary worked as a result. When he went global, his ignorance of those cultures and his preconceived notions of them (I knew many WWII vets and children of them who hate the Japanese to this day because they can't get over WWII) colored the actions they took. So you have to give up the idea that he's writing anything that "could" happen.

Because every time this happens, everyone seems to think it will be a big disaster. It's happening again with the F-35. People have NO memory. A plane has a troubled gestation, all the doomsayers come out of the woodwork to say how bad it's going to be compared to the previous generation. Then the plane gets fixed, has a long and illustrious career...and it's successor has a troubled gestation and the doomsayers pop up again.

F-21A Lion DLC
JediMaster replied to Stary's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - General Discussion
That's just because it's a plane that dates from before 82 that was still in use. There are plenty of plausible scenarios you can have with just the stock planes in the late 80s if you pick carefully and just use new skins. I think it's totally not indicative of anything. -
If by "launch" you mean "throw them over the DMZ", then yes. If you mean "mount one on a ballistic missile to hit a target," then no.

NK is definitely a mouse and it's definitely roaring loudly. The rest, not so sure.
