  1. 6 Marines killed in live fire training

Hopefully this was a freak defect and not an indication of a quality control issue.
  2. There is also the carry life, or whatever they call it. A given missile can only be carried on a flight so many times before it's considered "expired" and must be scrapped or fired. You don't take a missile built in 2001 and fly it every mission until you fire it, even if it takes 10 years. Carrying a huge number of missiles when it's highly unlikely they'll be needed is a waste. The usual 2x2 strategy for IR/RH missiles makes sense for planes like the F-16/18 that aren't dedicated A2A. Those like the 14 and 15C that are usually carry 8, either 4x4 or 2x6. So while it may look impressive to see a Flanker carrying 10+ missiles, it's not really a likely scenario.
  3. WTB Track IR

Some day, when my wife and I get jobs, I might consider it.
  4. Anyone else feeling nostalgic?

The EAW modding scene is quite strong. Look it up and you'll find a slew of new planes and other additions as well as some limited graphics updating. It doesn't look like Il-2 or anything, but it's at least looking a bit better. My PCs from those eras are long gone. Due to continually upgrading my lone PC, I never have anything left but a piece here and there I fail to sell. I did for many years have an actual 2nd PC for my wife, but we finally tossed it when we got our good laptop in 2008 (still have it, actually, and she uses it daily, C2D 2.4GHz w/4GB RAM, other than smallish HD no need to replace it). I think it was a P3-550? It was made up of the parts my main PC no longer needed for a long time, but then I sold my mobo with my CPU one time and that stopped. So it stagnated running Win98 and I think had my Voodoo2 card and all. As I said, it got less and less use until it sat unused for like 5 years when we got the laptop. At that point, it became surplus and we tossed it as there was no room for it.
  5. Falcon Missile Family

I'll always wish the F-12 had been produced.
  6. Race 07

Race 07, despite being almost 6 years old, is a great game. It has its limitations, but as mentioned there are a bunch of expansions and full titles that merge with it like GT Evolution, Race On, Race Injection (numerous smaller addons combined). It's like a slightly newer GT Legends with different tracks (mostly, a couple are the same) and different cars, Race 07 having a diverse bunch of all types including open wheel. Oh, the other difference is unlike GT Legends and GTR2 which preceded it, Race 07 has no "unlockables"...you get access to every car and track from the start and can mix and match how you want.
  7. Be afraid......

Which is exactly what Saddam did. He at first tried to use his AF, but quickly realized that was futile and instead started firing Scuds at Israel and Saudi Arabia....because he realized the best way to hurt the US was indirectly. Likewise NK will attack soft SK targets.
  8. People Eating Tasty Aliens?
  9. Meteor explodes over Russia, hundreds reported injured

I guess they figured a picture of a rock wasn't "exciting" enough.
  10. ...while I win it here with the exact same numbers.
  11. Right, because a naked F-35 would be offensive!
  12. What about good war films in general?

DSOHILTSWALTB is one that always makes me laugh. "...and ANIMALS that will be bread for SLAUGHTER!"
  13. Cure for an age old problem

Some might see a rather hairy woman.
  14. Arma 3 Alpha Available on Steam

From what I hear, people have already taken Arma 2 stuff and put it into A3 Alpha. Islands, units, you name it. You can focus on what the weapons and vehicles are, but that's a rather narrow view. A bit like saying you never were willing to try Bioshock because you don't like the ocean.
  15. Check the news forum or look at the front page. Just 2.5 years after the last major release, Arma 2: Op Arrowhead, a playable alpha of Arma 3 is on Steam for preorder and immediate testing. My first hour evaluation: despite having many missing features right now (just an alpha after all), A3 runs as well as A2 does now on my system and looks better, with numerous improvements. Plus, the basic version is just $33 USD.
  16. Rogue System

I think I've been waiting for a true VR headset for 20 years now. I'm also quite excited about that. None of the ones I've seen so far have ever motivated me to even try them, far too limited so I knew I wouldn't like them.
  17. Rogue System

Are you using Track IR in the videos?
  18. Bear Bombers Over Guam... o_O

    Quite possible.
  19. Bear Bombers Over Guam... o_O

    Remember the Maine?
  20. In "worst case" scenario, if they were desperate, they only would've had at the most 6 planes (and those 4 in 79 likely weren't all done by Sept) for use. Without any logistical tail, and remember back then the idea was plentiful spares and sending engines back for maintenance, not to mention no real experience for the ground crews on the type, we're talking at best a dozen or so sorties before they'd have to stop for work. It just wouldn't be practical, not when there were other proven examples around.
  21. Rogue System

Thanks for stopping in. Lots of people here are fans of old school space sims.
  22. The autoupdater is not yet carrying it as of this post.
  23. And now for something completely different...
  24. The problem with being a tiny developer is indeed that you often have to live with whatever decisions you make, even if they were wrong. Does he wish he'd either not bothered (and done Iceland traditionally) or simply done it another way altogether? I don't know, but it's obvious he's not happy with how long it took. The only option is to try and make as much as possible off this investment ie making Exp3 and/or DLC for NA. NA has only 2 flyables stock, though, so that limits what he could do there. Just cutting all PC work at this point is not going to recoup his costs.
